Question about Human Fighter

nthnaounnthnaoun Member Posts: 1,438

I just want to know how you all dealt with this decision or how you think I should.

Today I started playing L2 for the first time and this is also my first open pvp game. I read over the lvl 40 class descriptions and decided that the Dark Avenger was more my playstyle. I am lvl 10 now, but the last few kills of lvl 9 someone gave me a shortbow and arrows. I was only going to use them to pull with, but I forgot to put my sword and shield on the hotbar. I ended up not only pulling but killing the mobs with my bow. They went down a lot faster with that bow than with my sword. I enjoyed this and it made me wander if I should become an archer. After all, I know Archers and Nukers rule in L2. Yet, I love the heavily armored, sword and shield fighters that use magic.

I have 10 more levels to play around with the idea, but the question remains: Should I be an archer since I enjoy the fast killing in PvE or is there a way I can use a bow as a DA and just use my sword and shield when the enemy closes in and it be worth it?

I guess I want to hear some success stories of Human fighters who went both routes. Maybe I should create two characters? But the grind is a couple years from what I hear. That would be brutal if you have more than one character.

This is just a discussion and anyone is welcome to post their opinions or advice here.

An Archer is a good choice. The sieges are filed with them. Primary drawback in my opinion

    1) you gotta kite (I hate kiting with a passion)

    2) super expensive higher up. Some of those bows take 7 and 10 soul shots PER shot. At higher level that becomes a burden. D grade SS cost 11ad each. (that works out to 77 ad PER shot if your bow needs 7 per) You would have to farm alot to upkeep. Farm mobs you dont need SS for.

Most of the classes are good in PvE. Its really depends on what you like. I like tanking. I don't like going down easy. Casters are paper dolls in this game. Tanks are true tanks. Archers kinda fall in the middle. They are relatively easy for a DD to take down but the archers ranged attack is what matters.

Never forget the money issue in L2. You need to also think about how you are going to make money. Learn the market once you get off the newbie island.

Hmmm... the grind doesn't take a couple of years. Its tough but not that tough. Our GM started in Oct and hes lvl 72 right now but he lives ingame  The guild also all came intact from another game so they worked well together and where very organized form the beginning. They are all at least in their 60s with top grade stuff but they all loan and swap gear. They also share all the drops from loot to mats. Like I said they almost all came together from another MMO so they are use to working together.

Like any other MMO, it depends on how much you play. I don't get to play near as much so I'm in my mid 40s. I spent a huge amount of time working the market and making money also.

Maybe he meant when you are "truly" finished with your character, which would be lvl 78 x2 classes (main and subclass), plus becoming a Nobeless. With C5, it will be lvl 80 x3 plus Nobeless. Not to mention the goal of being a Hero.

I am just so excited about this game. Open Pvp, huge pve raids, long grind with a lot of advancement options, outstanding artwork on the armor, and seige warfare. I haven't been excited about a game like this since when I started DAoC 4 years ago, and I've played 6 or 7 mmo's since then.

Do you get to run your own city? The seiges that are done, are they done to gain control of a castle and actually own it, like in DAOC, SWG player ran cities or what DnL is boasting about bringing to the table.

To be a fully complete character must be like a god among men. No wonder we have idiots going to the newbie Islands to grief. They wouldn't have a chance against the higher PC's.

The archer is really not what I'm looking for if I have to grind for currency to just make normal shots. Plus I hate kiting. I guess I'll stick with the DA and just tank and send my pet in to follow the kiters around.

Well, I'm thinking of becoming a Blade Dancer...
I had a lv 20 Dark Wizard on my other account, but bought a new box to get all the nifty newb bonuses.
Do you think, that BD is a good choice? And won't I die of boredom before lv 40, when I'll start recieving party invites? XD

In that case, yeah, I guess it could take a long while

You should like it here then

Not really like SWG or DAoC. There is guild housing (guild halls) which are very expensive but have some great features.

The castle possession is what the game is really about. So yes there are player controlled cities. (yes, the guild that owns a castle gets to use it as a sort of guild hall)

Every city is player controlled technically. Whoever owns Dion castle runs Dion castle town so to speak. The owners of the castle levy taxes on the npc's sold goods and manage the manor system. All of this has impact on the game world and economy. In some towns items will be cheaper then others depending on the taxes of the local controlling guild.

This can be good or bad. You can have guilds who promote trade by keep taxes low or tyrants who tax the players to death. What happens to tyrants? Well someone has to go and overthrow them, right? What happens when a tyrant see a rich prosperous castle realm? He wants it! The politics are awesome. Once you see and understand that, the game takes on an entirely new dimention.

To be a fully complete character must be like a god among men. No wonder we have idiots going to the newbie Islands to grief. They wouldn't have a chance against the higher PC's.

Nope, they sure wouldn't. To be honest with you, most players who are not "commited" or "on the fence" never make it past 40 or so. That 2nd class transfer breaks the will of alot of players.

The archer is really not what I'm looking for if I have to grind for currency to just make normal shots. Plus I hate kiting. I guess I'll stick with the DA and just tank and send my pet in to follow the kiters around.

I could be wrong, maybe someone with an archer will post later.

I love this game, archers are fun, my main class is Wizard though now..and i plan to go to sorc. I play pretty much non-stop cause im out of school for awhile and my gf is not..so shes not here alot. So for about a month this is what im going to be doing..i have not played a game that has made me this excited to play in a very long time. Every class has a purpose, you just have to find what you like.

So far...I really like this game too. I hope I am not one of those people who lose the will to go on at 40, but it sounds like something that could happen often. I remember DAoC and people quitting around lvl 40, when there was only 10 more levels to go, because they would kill something and the xp bar didn't move. I hope I am dedicated enough to stick with it. It sure would be fun to be in a seige and be a part of the community.

I hope C5 will encourage a lot of guilds to invite Newbies. It would be nice to find a guild home soon, but I can deal with flying solo for a while.

Just try to enjoy the game and make some friends. The rest will fall into place.

L2 is a harsh mistress lol. You will love her at times and you will hate her at others. No matter what you think she will not care.

DA's are the best tank, but tanks are not popular any more for a reason. They can't PVP well, they can't solo. There not in high demand for many parties.

If your thinking about going human archer, do it. Hawkeye is a solid class thats good in PVP. They can group and solo well. Archers are arguably the fastest leveling classes. If you kill 1X HP mobs you won't need to kite.

When 75 was the level limit the first class to hit 75 was SilverRanger. The faster running, less damage elven version archer. Warcryers level fast as melee's but I'm a little disapointed on my WC abilities at high level.

All though C5 will change PVP, melee's will only be able to beat buffers and only buffers will beat nukers (according to NCsoft). Still doesn't favor the melee.

DAs isn't a bad choice, HE would be the easier route though. DAs have their role in PvP, someone's gotta flag first, but you'd probably be useful in PvP quicker as a Hawkeye rather than Dark Avenger.

Who said DA can't solo well? With a dark panther has the attack power of a silver ranger, you can solo very well.

On the other hand, archers don't solo better really if you don't have a second account buff bot. For those who don't know, ever since C2, archers can't solo without heals after every 2~3 mobs. So the buff bot isn't just there to buff, but also to heal every a few seconds. Mobs don't die before beat the crap out of archers! Get real! Most mobs are faster than silver rangers, and many of them have ranged attack, and mobs' accuary is way higher than equal level players' which archers can't evade.

On the other hand, nukers level the fastest if they have a boxed SE buff bot. 2 shot mobs DO kill mobs before they can reach the nukers.

Nukers also destory everyone else in pvp. 1 shot an archer with magic critical isn't hard with the correct setup and buffs.

On a side note, DA will kill a HE in 1 on 1. As the matter of fact, most knight classes do give archers a hard time in small fight. Archers will only have the advantage during large fight with perfect archer group where we can borrow the power from swordsinger and bladedancer with one full party of archers target the same enemy, in that case even heavy armor knights do drop fast unless they turn on Unlimited Defense.
