Epic Games has posted a new blog on the Fortnite site to let fans know that the free-to-play launch of the Save the World portion of the game will not be happening in 2018. The original plan for Save the World was to launch as a F2P title this year, but it seems it will be early next year at the earliest. The delay is in order to to provide more time for the team to "get this right" and to improve a number of systems and features.

"Milk more money" otherwise, why wait until 2 months until the year ends to say this?

    In other words

There are still idiots who give us 60$ thinking they need Fortnite in order to play Fortnite: Battle Royale.

I stopped playing a while ago, but I had a lot of fun with Save the World. It just got to a point where the only thing that changed was the background to the gameplay (canny valley) and I got bored with the same 8 or so missions.

They are trying to figure a way to populate that game part again. They let it go to the waste side when they released the battle royal portion and saw the profits coming in they forgot about "Save the World".

"more time for the team to "get this right" and to improve a number of systems and features. "

And somehow all i can hear is "rebalacing the game for microtransactions without going full on BF2" =P

This have been a good conversation

Just like they forgot and shutdown Paragon AND they completely forgot they had a mobile game in the works.

Isn’t it more important to “get it right “ for folks that paid for the game than future free players?

They just going to pull a TRION on that one. Screw the people who paid for it. They are drowning in money with the Battle Royale game.

They just wait till the Battle Royale hype dies down a bit, which is bound to happen as people will get bored sooner or later. Then they suddenly dump the Save the World to revitalize the game.

Free players will raise the popularity of it bringing in more paying customers....they are likely to make more money sending it to f2p with a shop....

My guess is they ware working on some sort of battle pass type deal for save the world and don't have it quite figured out yet....

As far as the people who paid already, it's pretty easy to earn the value of the game back in vbucks just by playing it....

If they were go F2P with the current model, the launch would be ok, but the game would flop soon afterwards. They are looking at how they can avoid that, and if they don't feel that they can, they will at least time it strategically.

I'm not sure what they mean by "get it right" since they need to "actually do the work" to even finish Canny Valley part 2. Last I heard, that's slated for November. Twine Peaks is left after that, and given the lack of focus on PVE this past year, 2020 might be when that zone is finished.

I feel this is just an excuse so they don't have to come out and say "Whoops, we completely ignored this for a whole year. Lets delay it before axing it all together in 2019." Chances are they wont find a way to improve it so they will just end it to better "Focus" on the Battle Royal Aspect. The true Fortnite was dead the moment the BR took off.

While i agree with you here, i don't think they can get it "right" without making it F2P and market it more alongside the Battle Royale mode.

With all the money Fortnite BR is making as F2P, they cannot think they will make any good money on Save the World without making it F2P and tying it to the season purchases from Battle Royale as well.

My thoughts. Just like the excuse they made for shutting down Paragon instead of making a drastic rework on it, they cannot work on Save the World without making enough money from it.

When sales drop right off, population drops off and it WILL because people hate to lose, they can only lose and feel a part of the community for so long before they move on to find a game they can win at.

Ninja might even be paid to continue playing this, not like either would divulge the information.Soon he leaves a big hole is created, then things start to dwindle down.

I can't believe some of the streamers playing Fortnite that really are just terrible and seem to have no clue what they are doing. They do it because it is popular and streamers want to be popular. These type of players are big time followers/bandwagon jumpers, they will leave VERY soon after an exodus begins and lots of them.

So is this simply a "prediction ?",their team figures right after the holiday season, people will be playing all sorts of new games and forget Fortnite. So what better way to reinvigorate interest than to announce the ...remember us,we have this updated game mode,BRAND NEW,waiting for YOU.

IMO it will be inevitable, people will be looking for new games for the Christmas season,i predict Fortnite will drop off at that point.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

WIthin a year there will probably be a dozen more BR style games...THeyre trying to make as much as they can off of it before people start to leave.
