Torchlight is proof once again that gameplay > pretty engine when done correctly.

not really, all depends on how micro transactions are being embedded. It's still Perfect World. I remember how I enjoyed Neverwinter Online in Alpha and Beta, not going to make that mistake twice.

"but others will be able to be found and crafted to expand the number of ways that the space can be decorated"

Please let this mean that (at least the majority of) cosmetics will be earnable / unlockable in game.

    At least it's something promising.

Unlike the diablo mobile announcement. Talk about a turd in the punch bowl...

Yeah I think many here are forgetting it is PW behind the scenes here. This is not the TL people knew. Monetization is going to make or break this title not the feature set.

That's not fair, PW was behind the last torchlight as well.

Man i want to be hyped over this game but its PWE. I love the look of the forts and didn't think they would be that big. I can see this as being a really social game because of this. Something modern mmo's have forgotten.

Diablo can continue taking the piss with a mobile game. I'm backing Torchlight, and couldn't be more excited for Frontiers.

Well see what the masses of non Diablo mobile players think.

I see this as blizzards move away from old fans and toward making new mobile fans. Sad, but if the money is there from mobile game players, they won't look back....

Im not overly concerned with PW  , a little but not nearly as much as some here .. Ive played NW and STO to end game .. And the truth of the matter is you do NOT need to spend 1 cent in cash shop to have fun and get to max lvl end game ..And thats alot of game in both cases ..

That being said once at end game .. you have to make a choice to make

Either ..   Spend X amount in your budget to progress and grind in other areas ..

Spend alot to progress quickly in many areas

Reroll and play another class from the start or

                      Move on ..

Its really not that bad at all imo , now both games do have annoying CASh SHop mechainics going on in game that are there for endgame or to entice and seperate the lowest hanging fruit from there wallets ..

Go have fun in there games , have self control and dont be low hanging fruit

It's not like it had to be a zero sum game. When Intelligent Systems & Nintendo announced a Fire Emblem mobile game, they also announced a Gaiden remake and a 3 Houses. When Gears of War announced a mobile game, they also announced Gears of War V. When Bethesda announced an Elder Scrolls mobile game, they also announced The Elder Scrolls VI.

Blizzard went the Command and Conquer Rivals route. Fuck them for that.

From what i remember torchlight suppose to be MP only in the first place, but something went wrong and it end up SP cartooney diablo clone.

So now they want to add building crafting...to the hack n slash game, really?

    Whats next, BR?

P.S. I found TL1 boooring. But i liked to play TL2 with mods.

Yep PW was not involved in the development of TL or TL2, they are all in bed with them for this one. Tread carefully PW or you will kill this game before it has a chance.
There is a good core fanbase for this series. For everyone's sake I hope they just let the game find success on it's own merit and not direct the revenue stream through nefarious channels.

Actually Perfect World were involved pretty early on - the publishing deal was announced in April 2009 i.e. basically halfway through Torchlight 1's development(which was only 11 months). A year later, half a year after TL1 was released and more than 2 years before TL2 was released Perfect World bought a majority stake in Runic Games. And at this point they could do whatever they wanted to but they left the people in charge of Runic to make the business decisions. In 2014 Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer left the company to make their own two-person game studio. The remaining founder - Max Schaefer left Runic Games in 2016 to found Echtra and make Torchlight Frontiers when Perfect World told him "We are going to pay for you to make a new studio and make whatever you want." So he took the opportunity to make the game he wanted to make when he, his brother and Travis Baldree founded Runic.

They also closed down Runic Games, the developers of Torchlight 1 and 2 to focus on the microtransaction dispenser "games as a service".

Yeah, this isn't the same situation at all. Investing in and having a stake is not the same as owning and directing the IP. Their takeover and influence didn't happen until after TL1/2. You even said yourself their investment didn't influence the game design.

TL1/2 are published by Runic and still are on GoG and Steam.

We'll see. I'm calling "Founders Packages" right now.

Come on, I've recapped the whole history of PW involvement in Runic - TL2 has been developed almost entirely after PW purchased the studio. Saying that they took over the studio after TL2 was released is factually incorrect. They did not influence the game not because they could not but because they did not want to and the founding of Echtra was actually based on the same premise - Max Schaefer would make the game however he liked so the power of how the game is made and what is monetized is actually in the developer's control. At this point the devs have said that they do not know how they are going to monetize the game. Founder packs are likely but then again Founder Packs nowadays exist for everything including single player games.

I will never understand how anyone can defend PWE lootbox and cashshop crap. They are the worse company with two big IP's that they have ruined because of it. Now they have their hands on a Torchlight game.

Where am i defending , Im telling you can play there games and not use the cashshops ..And the experience is good , I also tell you there annoying and target low hanging fruit ..

And i had/have fun in both games without using the cash shops .. Not ruined from this view..

Looking forward to this one as well. My Mother is 90 years old and she still plays Torchlight, Torchlight II, Grim Dawn, Wolcen, Diablo III and the Titan Quest series. I'm hoping that the the controls for Torchlight Frontiers will be like the other Torchlight games so she can jump right in and start to play.
