Err I dont get it lol. So somehow people get excited to play a ten year old game..... If you want to argue the expansions "ruined" the game well hold onto your hats because they will eventually be introducing all of those expansions to the classic. boggles the mind how gullible people are really. Everything you can do on classic you can do on the current live and the current live has much more to offer. Its not like this is some open world pvp game where you fell behind and need a reset. LOTRO is one giant single player MMO, no one groups, next to no one does the group content. A "classic" reset offers really nothing beyond a reset which a current live version new server would accomplish but again why you want that makes no sense anyways (make a new character on live and you have a fresh start).
Yeah I started new characters on different servers before so they really had to start with nothing. The advantage of this server I guess is that more people will probably be around near your level if you want to group and maybe no FTP might be consider an advantage as you probably get less gold sellers spamming your mail. Its not like it cost me anymore so why not.
So my question is as you have to be VIP for the new server, are expansions going to be free or chargeable like the current servers as they are released?
You'll still have to buy any expansion you don't already own, the same as it currently is on the regular servers.
Since expansion purchases are account wide If you already own it, it'll be available for this server.
That's good for early levels, but later on, somewhere around Mirkwood on, that will lose its appeal quickly. I don't think they're selling xp boosters, hopefully not.
Every game I've seen so far that implements slower XP rates, does so specifically to sell XP boosts in the cash shop. I've yet to see otherwise.
I think you'll see two kinds of people playing on this new server.
There will be those that want to experience what us old timers did way back at the start when the servers were crowded and you either grouped to share MOB's or waited in line.
And those that have complained that the game was ruined the day it went F2p. That F2p let all the never-do-well's come in and trash their game and the chat channel.
All in all I think this will be a win win for SSG. Cash via the store from new characters and maybe some new sub's from those that want to play here.

In this case it's being done on the Legendary server mostly at players' request so as not to out level content as quickly as is normally done in the Shadows of Angmar (1-50) portion of the game. On the regular servers you can pretty much outlevel all content just by doing the Epic questline and not really catch up until Dol Amroth (level 90).
This is a good call so that people who have never played LOTRO can experience more of the game and those of us who know it well can enjoy it at a more leisurely pace.
The more i read and learn the less interested i become , i can just do this on live ...
It was clear from the announcement (just check the forum conversations after), and was detailed even more in the livestream. You can totally do this on live, with the slow leveling kinships, those kinships started on the RP servers but now I believe there is one on 5 or 6 servers already. (there was a comment even on the LotRO forum that SSG just wants to monetize the slow level kinship gameplay for those who are unaware...)
Compared to that, to roll a character in such a kinship and stop yourself at 50, Anor will give only two things, a smaller and a bigger. The smaller is that you won't need to hassle with the turtle stone, or avoiding higher content, the server will handle that automatically. The bigger is that not only your kinship will be on-level, but the entire server. No high-levels around, no end tier crafted items, etc. It can really help with the "endgame" level 50 content, in a slow leveling kinship you have to organize, and can only gather members from within the kin for a proper run of Rift or Hele. With this server where everyone stops at 50, it will be easier to find on-level players for your dungeons and raids. Also, no cop-out with inviting a few higher levels to make it easier Rift is still pretty brutal for a raid with only level 50s around.
So, at the core that's it: just a new server with the exact same gameplay as the other servers, but with a level 50 cap (for now, which will be raised over time). You buy access for Anor (with the subscripction) not for a nostalgia trip, but for the fresh server feel, where you can level up with the whole server together and no endgamer alts or friends to help in that.
It's enough for me and I will be there, since I love the fresh server experience (like the two AoC Saga servers), but as @Nebless said above (who is on the Saga servers too I think ) there will be several types of players on Anor, and those who join purely for the news pieces and announcements about a "nostalgic trip on a Legendary server" will be disappointed.
Well the best quote I ever heard about this kind of thing is by Kabulozo
Who said "You know you fucked up your game with expansions when you need to launch Classic servers in order to bring people back."
Nah, classic and progression servers are in fashion at the moment and for most MMOs it's really simple and low cost for them to implement them. Makes sense to appeal to the classic server crowd right now and it would be stupid not to.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Do we have it confirmed that the XP and the mobs will be how it was at launch? If not, this will not be a success due to the ease. Also, are they going back to how the travel system was? What about MAPs? Will they be blank again until you exore the area? I hope so.

I would agree if there wasn't going to be a cash shop in the game. So, I have high doubts that will be the case with this company which has shown it has no qualms with what it puts in the cash shop.
