    Fair article except part where writer had issue with perk card being monetized. That hasnt happened so its criticism over speculation. I could say server rental will happen (with customizable set of mods) but also that hasnt happened yet. So i cannot merit that on speculation too.

    Overall I have enjoyed the beta. I played with many friends and its a very fun game despite partially flawed. I understand if solo player would enjoy less. I think players today pay too much attention to product being well made and features rich. If its well done then good but most important thing is having fun. FO76 is a bit medium rare but I have 'fun' so that suits me perfect.

    They have a lot of fixing to do before I buy it.

    Fov slider, storage limit, frame rates, AI, combat, animations, textures, VATS, the more I type the more I realize just how much of a mess this game is so far.

    They really need to fix a lot of stuff. Plus they don't have the modders to do it for them. In fact it's probably going to be plagued with hackers.

    I enjoy Fallout and own most Bethesda games but this is a big wait and see for me on multiple issues.

    I think I would prefer they monetize the perk card system as long as one could purchase directly the ones they want right now but I fear they would more likely go with a random loot pack approach instead.

    I would not enjoy being unable to develop a character exactly as I want, when I want, and I would hate to spend a great deal of time without a key perk unless I found someone to trade it to me. I'm sure there will be some rarer or highly sought after perks as well.

    I am a huge fan of the Fallout series, and I recall initially being disturbed at the small differences in mechanics in FO4 after just having completed FNV right before it.

    I suspect like Red's friend, I too would find myself complaining over the differences including the missing personalities the NPCs provide in the single player titles.

    The idea of being unable to choose what map I'm on or who I am with is a total non starter, if I wanted to play random matches I'd go find myself a good BR instead.

    Definitely going to ask for a refund on the game and guide, and perhaps reconsider at some point in the future after improvements are made.

    The Editor in Chief said the same thing when I turned in the article. Like i told him, though... I'm not attacking them for what they might do, I am actually having a problem with what they did. It doesn't matter that they haven't implemented any purchase for the cards. The fact that they're so similar to systems like what you see in Fortnite means it's a very obvious conclusion for many. Even if they never had any intention at all of selling the perk packs in their cash shop, which I honestly doubt, they'd still be wrong because they created a system where a lot of people are going to draw that conclusion.

    Game development isn't JUST about putting mechanics together and letting people play it. There's a lot of expectation management, community development, player training, and other soft skills that go into it. Regardless of their intentions, I think the Perk system, as much as I like several aspects of it, are going to be a problem for them.

    I liked what I saw of the game and I'd buy it (if I hadn't already). I'd be very careful about recommending it, though. There are a lot of problems that _I_ don't have a problem looking past, but that I think would be breaking for a lot of people.

    I'm so sad about Fallout. I played every single one of the games and it was for the great story. That's completely gone... I'm done with them.

    Seeing what i see on Twitch,this game will nearly disappear in a month.it will fall right off the radar,this is simply "NEW GAME"must buy because there are millions who just have to spend money on every NEW hyped game.
    MOST if not all the big streamers put in their "time"contract to showcase the game/beta and have already moved on to other games.Wit the big streamers not showcasing the game anymore,it will lose popularity VERY fast.
    The game went from top 10 watched on twitch to already #101 that is losing steam really fast.

    So i guess they did their job,marketed the heck out of it,got a ton of pre-orders,now the game is dead.

    Im going to wait until the reviews, but I have not liked much of what I’ve seen since it was confirmed there are no NPC’s.

    From my perspective, 76 seems caught between a survival game like Conan Exiles and Fallout 4, containing none of the best parts of either.

    Frankly, I have only had one issue while playing FO76 and that is a bug that can and probably will be fixed quickly. One "annoyance" was no push to talk on the live server chat. Again, I think that will be changed soon enough. Most of the other issues that I have seen listed here have not been a thing to me. As far as I am concerned, FO76 is every bit a FO game as FO4 with multiplayer added. And the way they have handled MP is fine by me since you can opt out of pvp if you wish. So, it is a buy and a keep for me.

    I'm a big Bethesda fan myself going back to TES: Arena and a Fallout fan since the original game released. Here comes the BUT, but I can't stand ESO, it just doesn't feel like TES to me and from reading this article it seems FO76 isn't going to scratch my Fallout itch either.

    There's no doubt that Bethesda can turn out some epic single player games but, for me at least, they miss the mark when it comes to converting those franchises to multiplayer.

    Maybe I'll pick this one up in a year or two if it's on sale. Then again, maybe not.

    First Bethesda game I didn't pre-order, first Fallout game I won't play. It's just not for me. I get why they did it, PUBG is all "the rage" now, just like Blizzard making Diablo mobile, it's where the cash is, but to me it's not Fallout, it's Sellout.

    It feels like a F4 mulitplayer mod TBH, I'm fine with that though.

    There might have been some reasoning behind the random server assignment, such as preventing continuing griefing, but this clearly isn't the fix for that. This might as well be a random battleground game (and maybe that's the point), where everyone drops in with no association with anyone else. Feels weird, though, to be unable to continue what you started with other folks.

    I went in to the beta highly skeptical but have enjoyed it a lot. I've been playing with a few friends and it's enjoyable to explore, clear out areas, and build up your bases. It's definitely not the same experience as the other Fallout games and if you're expecting that you'll be disappointed, and this game for sure isn't for everyone. However, if you go in with an open mind and enjoy certain elements (exploration, crafting, base building, grouping up) you'll have fun.

    Also it should be noted that a lot of the security "issues" brought up were made up. There were subsequent tests done by others and they discovered that a good bit (not all) of the things reported were partially untrue or just entirely made up.

    While you are unable to control the map you are placed in I assume there is a way for friends to meet up on the same one.

    Anyone able to explain how this actually works?

    Good article Red. I felt it was fair and insightful

    I agree I would like to know how friends can join? Is it just a friend list and then join your friend? If so, that might be able to resolve some of the randomness of community. Very bad move to do that.

    Here is a hint developers - - - most of us aren't fans of megaservers and enjoy being in the same community. This makes a world feel alive.

    I forget the exact interface (I am sure someone has screen shots) but when you enter the game, you have a choice to join anyone on your friends list. This puts you on the same instance as them.

    Yep, you can add friends, form a team, then travel to them or vice versa. I don't know if you have to form a team to travel to their instance or not. I'll have to check that later. In any case it's easy to join friends.

    Same here.

    I think a lot of people miss the things I love the most. And watching streams definitely will not show you that.

    Exploration. It is amazing. Finding cool stuff like pauldron with ability to mask your character completely when he is still or T-60 power armor (that is stashed for now - not high enough level to use it effectively... besides, I am looking to make stealth operative build). Open safes, breaking terminal systems, stumbling upon a place and clearing it out find a clue to go to another... Which lead me to ->

    Stories. Never mind lack of human NPC. It is real wasteland out there. You follow footsteps and find clues to uncover stories. They are stories of ghosts, of people past and people dead. You see what war did and feel it to the core. It is bloody lonely and your 76th buddies won't give you much to thwart that feeling. I mean sure, pick a group and this is just game of shooting crispy zombies. But walk alone...

    Bases are fun. Like Poseidon power plant. Certainly group content, though some people figured how to hold those bases alone. Me - I was glad to stumble at T-60 there and it was hilarious when I claimed ownership of the base right before a guy decided to PK me. He really should have not, automated turrets made him into fishnet. He kept coming back, but my trusty combat knife made him reconsider eventually. Repairing guard cannons on the fly and watching them making enemies into pile of rubble was good too.

    Game is DEFINITELY not for everybody. But it hit the spot with me. I hope some of you guys find something too.
