There’s so much on the horizon for World of Warcraft players it’s almost daunting. With the 8.1 Tides of Vengance set to go live December 11-13 it’s time to start looking ahead to what’s next for WoW. After the What’s Next in World of Warcraft panel I had the opportunity to chat with Jimmy Lo, Visual Design Producer, and Ray Cobo, Lead Producer Art & Design, about some of the things we have to look forward to after 8.1.

"Kul’tirans can’t be mages. This seems like such a weird choice because Jaina exists and at this point she’s one of the strongest mages we know about. So, what’s going on here?

I asked both Jimmy Lo and Ray Cobo about this and if Jaina was just some sort of anomaly in Kul’tiran society, and their initial reaction was surprise."

Nobody in WoW talks to the story team or if they do no one listens to what they have to say. The only people who the lore matters to outside of the story team is the fans; as we worked out from that statement by the Creative Director (I think) who said that new ideas for dlc were conceptualized and decided on and then sent to the story team to sort it out. :D

Honestly, if you haven't liked what you've been doing so far, dont bother with 8.1 unless you feel like some story quests, a new warfront and incursions are worth resubbing for. Ilvl wont increase until 8.1.5 which is when you get the new azerite ring and allied races aren't until 8.1.5 either.

I will re-sub for story alone. Once I have finished it I will unsub until more story drops.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I honestly wouldn't even bother at that point since the story they are adding will only keep you engaged for about 2-3 hours. Then you're stuck with almost a month of the same stuff you probably didn't like at the start of the expansion.

Looks like warlocks for Zandalri and no mages for Kul'Tiran was a mistake:

Jaina was sent to Dalaran because Kul'tiras couldn't facilitate her with her studies. She became one of the strongest mages under the tutelage of Antonidas. If she stayed in Kul'Tiras, she would have become some halfbaked Shaman.
I have no handle on the lore, you may well be right, what I am saying is we heard it from their top guy, DLC is designed and the story team have to make the best of it they can. That is cart before the horse.

For me, I think it doesn't matter what else they add to the game if they leave the pointless Artifact Power grind in place.

The root of the problem is the underlying philosophy they've embraced where they want to force you to play the game their way to progress.  As an example, for me I prefer PvP battlegrounds.  But if I ignore the daily quests with Azerite Power and the Island Expeditions I'm handicapping my Heart of Azeroth progression.  Why does it need to be that way?  Why can't a player progress just as efficiently per time spent regardless of the activity?  Pushing players to do content they don't enjoy is just fucking stupid but Blizzard seems to be all in on this approach as of the last two expansions.  The current expansion has some other issues, but this is by far the biggest one from my perspective.

That's my issue as well. People hated on WoD, but in WoD I could be away from the game for 1-2 weeks and everything would be fine, now if you don't play 2 days it feels like you are left behind. Also I hate the fact that in PvP everyone is basically wearing different gear. The equality is gone despite what Blizzard and anyone else tries to say.

I would love if they remove these garbage systems that they are trying to force in the game. The only reason they want these systems in the game because by forcing you to grind they are forcing you to play more and what's more a lot of people don't realize that they aren't doing any actual content, but only the same thing. In Legion that was Mythic + in BfA there are also Island Expeditions and Warfronts, but sadly those 2 are so underwhelming that basically all you can do is the same in Legion... Mythic +.
At least PvP is 100x better than it was in Legion, so that's the one positive thing in BfA.

Nothing like a fanboy writing a glowing article about a game that pissed off half of its player base.

I would like someone to ask Blizzard "when TF are you going to start listening to what your players want instead of going the opposite direction time and time again?" Good luck with a game where you decide to have the players do what YOU want them to do when they rather be doing something else.

The PvP Island Expeditions don't work for that? I find MMORPGs as a whole tend to have a lot more "work" involved to get what you want. I agree you should be able to do what you want and that alone. For PvP I also don't think there should be any progression though. Would you be OK if the Azerite armour didn't work in PvP?

I would be okay if Azerite Armour was removed from the game and replaced with standard armor.  The game was a lot more fun without it.

I agree with you 100% on this i would also like the same this stupid AP grind is old when i heard the weapons from legion was going bye bye i was like yes then i saw Azerite and i was like not again same old crap just with a neck/armor instead of a weapon

I can also agree with that. To me I feel like it's also taking away from having unique armor sets. Now they only have to create unique armor for cloth, leather, mail, and plate with Azerite gear vs. making unique sets for each class. It's rediculous to me because I don't want to look the same as Warlocks or Mages. My Pally will also look the same as DKs and Warriors. I miss the class designed sets.

I noticed you get quite a bit of azerite from pvp battlegrounds. I think spamming battlegrounds might even be one of the quickest ways to level it and I've been an azerite junky. Of course the weekly island expeditions is the best burst, but for consistent payout bgs are probably the way to go.

Every time I log in seems game is dead. I like the game but just seems like a ghost town to me.
