After months of silence, the Project Genom team has posted to the game's Steam page that it is making the move to SpatialOS. The game had been "restarted" in May 2018, but had run into technical issues that couldn't be solved quickly. As a result, several months went by with no game updates and falling sales. However, the company has invested new funds into SpatialOS technology and has plans to reignite development.

Oof, it is not going well for these guys and this game. I remember when it was just being talked about. I have always kept my eye on this but when it fell dark I kind of just forgot about it. Hopefully they can find there foot hold and give some solid and confident updates and make there mark.

I'm still going to hope for this one. If they were wise, they'd go to KickStarter or IndieGoGo to look for additional funding to bring on more devs. Honestly, when I played in alpha couple years ago, it was a game with potential and I still think that today. They're just hobbled by a too-small team and lack of funding.

Bummer for this hurdle. They are a team that does care about this project so this decision has to be hard for them. I will keep following. One day, someday...

It's definitely seeming to be yet another game that will never make it out of an alpha state before being canned.

I think it's another case of inexperienced developers getting in over their heads.  That is, of course, the negative aspect of game development being so easily-accessible now.

This would be the third netcode iteration they go through.
FIrst the vanilla one from the UE4 MMO Starter Kit guy
Then an in-house one, for which they were advised just to go with Spatial OS (one or two years ago)
And this one which actually uses SpatialOS
smh and facepalm all the way

Tbh, I hope they succeed. The MMO itself is a lot of fun, and its VERY VERY rare for their to be a sci-fi MMO that isn't about empty space and nothingness. Not many MMOs focus on sci-fi on LAND like anarchy online, Tabula Rasa, Ryzom etc.

And honestly, I think thats cause space MMOs are a lot cheaper to make because its nothingness and mostly (though thats sorta changing) non interactive planets and very little interaction with space itself. Literally have to design little in the way of artwork or assets. So, its much cheaper than a full on graphical sci-fi game where you need a lot of assets in the WORLD (trees, animals, wildlife, buildings etc).

Sad though they make so little income, 500 USD minus that with costs...not very good
