ESPN has received a copy of a letter sent out from Jace Hall to the participating teams in the H1Z1 Pro League to let them know that "the 2nd Split has been suspended indefinitely, and that a second league season will not be renewed or scheduled at this time". The notice comes just over half a year since the inaugural professional season began but also after reports that teams were not receiving promised funds.

DBG from day 1 of acquisition has been looking for ways to monetize instead of looking after their games.

A terrible business to take over the Everquest franchise but then again, the more i have learned about Smedley,it was all eventually doomed anyhow.

It might be a black mark this new owner doesn't want on the bigger picture that his rich cohorts operate as but this operation will cease soon enough.

Now that i think about it,remember how big Blackberry was, went down really fast, know who else is starting to destroy themselves...Blizzard.I guess when you get to the top it is easy to ride on your laurels however as long as there is a decent amount of competition you must keep up.
Microsoft will continue as the leader even though Apple seems to be richer..apparently but not imo simply because there is so little high end competition,Apple and Micro and that's it.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Not surprised at all at this announcement, it's a nice concept, but to me it always had that vibe of one of those big bash parties being announced with supposed celebrities to only take the people's money then not deliver on the festivities & left abandoned on an island somewhere lol. The numbers were probably bean-counted & it was found that not enough money would be generated so close shop.

TV and e-sports have been very rocky. The ratings are dismal and they are getting lower instead of higher. I think its fun for most people to play games but watching games is boring for most people.

Even if he's been gone for a while, anything touched by Smedley is doomed.

H1Z1's window of opportunity was effectively closed once Fortnite hit the ground 'sprinting' less a case of hare and the tortoise, and more a case of Energizer bunny vs roadkill.
I thought soon for sure Fortnite would be on the wane, but it seems they just won't stop and keep adding more to the game.
The only game that DBG has at the moment that is worth investing time into, is probably Planetside 2, if only it had better protection from hackers and other ne'er-do-wells :/

Some people used to believe that subscription games could never die - a stupid idea but people believed it. Multiple games tried to jump on the bandwagon.

Then when f2p gained traction some - including the likes of EA's then CFO - suggested that f2p was a guaranteed recipe for profit. Everybody on the new bandwagon.

And most recently we have had E-Sports. Another guaranteed to make money bandwagon. Cough, splutter, all aboard!

Amazing how easy it is for people & companies to forget that - as a minimum - the product has to be "good enough"; and it has to be marketed and priced right.

Not to mention the fact that there is a steady flow of new games coming out to cip away at "audiences" even if the "elite players" stick around.

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I said this will fail when it was announced. DBG is the shittiest company in the world. I'd rather play Diablo Immortal than any of the titles this garbage company has and not because the games are bad!

Yah.. like how GW2 tried to jump on the E-Sport thing with their PvP, ever taking the time to realize they need to have at least some semblance of balance and fair play among their classes to make that work.
