Ive just gotten the game and find it lacking a few things but I like whats there. I pretty much play every mmorpg that come out and have at least 1 maxed lvl character.Thats if the game can keep my attention.I really can't list my pros/cons yet but will in a few days.
Edit:
Pro's--
pretty much everything listed below i agree with
Con-
No Gamma control
No gamepad support
Low Pop.
Comments
Pro:
Extremely fun driving
addictive combat/loot system
Polished/finished look/feel
Well written quests, plenty of them
Unique theme from present MMOG's
Deep crafting which is deep and different yet simple to execute
Everyone playing this game seems to be happy and not whining about the game
I haven't heard one Chuck Norris fact while in game
Con:
I have to work for a living and can't blast to level 80 like some people
Wish there was a big exp bonus for groups so people would group more at lower levels
Not as many vehicles to pick from (up to level 18 where I am) as I'd like
All in all this game is well worth the money unless you hate driving games. And if you hate driving games, you may be a Mary Kay Cosmetics saleswoman.
Anarchyart said it well. I also like the big game world and the smooth animation. For an online game, there is extremely fast movement and the game doesn't suffer from lag due to the engine.
Oh, and jumping is a blast, as is tearing up a Pike town.
Cons would be that there is a seemingly low population right now. Everything I log on, my server's pop is "very low". Also, I would like more high-level opponents that require groups to kill, but I'm only lev 20, so there may be more of that ahead.

Old timer.
Just picked up the game yesterday, my thoughts so far
Only level 5 so far but found the game to be fun, the acual characters could use some work in town but how often are you even there? Jumping is fun and the combat is always there and fast paced. I found the game to run a tag sluggish in certain areas so far, I am running a high end machine too. It is a nice change from the classic hack and slash mundain magic like all the other MMO's out there. So far I am keeping it and am still going to play it.
I picked up the game a few days ago. So far I have played each race to around 7 or so finally settling on a Biomek terminator. I had actually give up on mmo's for a while after the SWG NGE fiasco. I am having a great time so far in Auto Asault. The combat is actually a lot of fun. The terminator class fits me rather well. I have a blast rolling into a camp turning on my aoe annd going to town. I do also enjoy crafting and I think the crafting is done very well in this game. I haven't run into any bugs as of yet so I would say it's rather polished. I think there may be a memory leak since after an hr my frame rates take a hit. Other than that even with the fast paced action it run very well for me.
I can't think of many cons at the moment. I don't recall having as much fun with an mmo combat system in a long time. I would have liked more character and vehicle customization options at the start. I do see people in the starter towns usually but the population is low. I generally prefer to solo but I would like to see some group activity because there isn't any at the moment it seems. I guess it does add to that apocolyptic feel.
Over all I am very happy with the game so far. I have played most mmo's on the market but don't recall ever having as much fun in pve.
To begin with, my character is a lvl 49 mutant currently, so Ive been playing a bit. The game right now is very easy and I have solo'd every single piece of content up to the point I am at. Boss mobs are doable but just take a lot longer to take down so that is what you usually find people grouping for.
Lets see.. Pro's: The game is fairly well put together with no game breaking bugs that I have found so far. Yes, there are bugs here and there, and while some are annoying, none 'break' the game. There is an in game voice chat system when you join a convoy which is nice. The combat is a lot more in depth than a lot of people give it credit for imho. The faster you go, the higher your defense and at the same time the harder it is to get the enemy in your front firing arc for very long. You also have to manage heat buildup and power management (for hotkey skills..think of it as mana if you will).
Cons:
-Population. The game has had some really horrible reviews which I think is very unfortunate. Its sad to see a reviewer slam AA when they never even made it above level 10 or so and then write negative comments on things that they obviously dont know much about. (p.s. Mutants need LOTS of help population wise..come on over and help out the underdogs
-Slightly Rushed Release: The devs had to get AA pushed out in order to start making some money so it ended up shipping without an auction house and some other little bells and whistles that would have really been helpfull. However, there has already been .. err 1 patch (I think) and like 2 hotfixes already with plans to implement an auction house as well as a respec method and other needed items.
Other Stuff:
-Crafting: Its not very intuitive when you are starting out, but its a bit deeper than I had originally thought once I started getting into it. Basically you find items (armor, weapons, power plants, chassis etc..) and then reverse engineer them in order to put them into a 'broken' state and hope you dont actually destroy the item in the process. Then once you "FIX" a broken item, you have about a 51% chance to memorize that schematic with about a dozen 'charges' of that schematic in your memory. You can then have those dozen 'charges' to add enhancements. Lets say you want to add a +1 electric damage enhancement to a weapon you found. You find out what materials it takes to add a +1 enhancement to a weapon and you have about 11 chances to get the particular +1 damage type you want for your new weapon (you may get +1 physical or +1 corrosion since they all share the same recipe). Think about higher level crafting kinda like Diablo 2 crafting. You get the schematic memorized, put the enhancement materials together and each enhancement recipe has about 6 or more different end results it can have. So... you end up 'tossing the dice' 11 times trying to get a good set of enhancements before your memorized schematic runs out of charges and you have to go find another drop to reverse engineer. Hope thats as clear as mud The downside is that it takes TONS and TONS of materials to get into the higher end of crafting. (anyone selling about 2000 grease?)
All in all AA is a fun little game that unfortunately few people are aware of. So.. come play a mutant and help us clean up the human and biomek scum
