Mages can't take a hit, run out of MP too fast. Can't heal or regenerate out side of the tavern. They have trainers for every class exept mages. Still no clue where to find one. Mages damage blows too.
Archers are pointless. All most imposable to target a mob and get in an attack before it reaches you. You end up using melee weapons but can't use heavy armor. Typicle D&D crap. It's run by too many nerds who think things should be a certin way.
No PVP = pointless long termplayability. Combat is sub par and clumsy. If you like boring and missleading quests go for this game. Hit: when you think your done with your quest guess again.

2. Target? It's hard to press tab?
3. No pvp, pvp will only draw players like you to the game and ruin the community.
Oh and the combat and quests are the best part of the game, most people that don't like the game will even admit that. There are a lot of problems with DDO, and you sir named 0 of them.
I think we can all agree.
Completely instanced content mixed with no pvp whatsoever = Boring predictable gameplay
Nothing to see here.....move along.
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
Archers need to use auto-attack because the monsters jump around like they are on crack. Warriors don't need to use auto-attack if they are "l33t" enough to pivot so they can manually attack the crack head kobolds.
Another place where Turbine totally screwed the archer class is by not allowing them to fire through gates. For example, if a party is walking down a hallway and the two front guys trip a switch where a gate drops, the archers can't shoot through the gate. These are not solid wooden gates, they are iron bars with gaps that allow those outside to see what's going on. In a PnP DD game, they could assist, so why not here? They should at least be allowed to assist from outside, but no...they have to be inside the gate, where the kobolds will again rush up to them forcing them to switch to the melee weapon.
Archer classes have it rough in DDO. No doubt.

I'm not going to dignify LordNoob with a response, his name says it all. As for PVP bringing in people like me. Well obviously not having it brings in people like him. So warning to all game makers. Add PVP. I'd rather deal with gankers.
To tell you what I mean about mages, yes they should not be a melee fighter. But to have to cast 2 spells in order to kill 1 kobald and to run out of MP before half the kobalds in the quest are dead... Not to mention you have to rest in the tavern. So stupid.
This game is dead all ready. Been out for 2 months and all ready giving free trials. It's not just the fact that the nerds who run D&D have given it a bad name. It's actually crap. It lacks the finesse of L2's combat, going for a more Dark Age of Camelot style. But it fails miserably.
The last and only good thing D&D has put out in 20 years is NeverWinter Nights. And only if you find some one willing to make a good server. Read there books, definitely for a niche market. Good for fanbios who don't bathe enough and will never know the touch of a woman.
Thats funny, cus I'm an L2 player and I have a job and a wife. Ok tell me oh wise one, how do you get MP back during a quest? I can tell you most L2 players are married and there spouses play too. There are a few who grind 24/7 but at least there is some thing to enjoy when you get there. A castle siege.
Also to let you know, NCsoft invented MMO. Lineage was the first persistent online game made. Sieges should be the standard and all the best games like DAOC incorporate them.
All the rest, the non PVP games like DDO are wannabes.
Mages, like in PnP are very limited early. To be effective on the first couple of solo missions you should have "summon monster I" and use your crossbow. Let your dog kill the kobolds, it's very powerful early in the game. After that you can start grouping and ration your mp.
Also while Lineage was the first MMO of any significance, the first persistent online game ever made was NWN for AOL.
To start with the essence: some games are designed for everybody, thus they are easy (WoW), some games are designed for the pvp fans (Lineage), and some are designed for those who wish to play in groups (DDO). DDO is not mainstream, understandable that many don't like it, because it has certain issues (lack of housing for ex), it even has some DnD type of issues, I'm not going to talk about them now, because you don't yet have a profound experience with the game to know it.
However there are some things that are very polished, and pretty well implemented: Balanced character evolution, character diversity, combat, quest diversity, quest depth.
Furthermore the average player europe (where I play) is 30ish, and has wife and kids. I am sure they made the kids without feeling the touch of a woman...
Said it before its not about the grouping.Heck i played EQ1 as a rogue for years and soloing was NOT an option for me as i could never kill anything that gave me exp.It was group or do something else.
Which is the problem asides from running instances there is nothing else to do.
Wow Koltrane, I haven't seen you post in awhile, it's good to see you again

Mages actually can replenish some of their spell points in the middle of a dungeon with the help of a cleric. A cleric and a Mage make a good team, the Mage and their pet doing its best as a tank, the mage doing the damage, and the cleric replenishing spell points as well as contributing some melee damage if need be.
"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
-Friedrich Nietzsche
True, I'm only familiar with 2nd edition rules and not this crazy 3.5 stuff, but that doesn't sounds very "D&D" to me.

Correction: there were 'persistent online games' LONG before NWN for AOL. They were, and are, called MUDS. DIKUMUD1 was the first MUD. Prior to that there were 'persistent' "online" "worlds" on BBS's, granted they weren't MMO's by any stretch but they were persistant AND online.
And Lineage wasn't the first "significant" Online Game... Meridian 59 was. After that UO, then Lineage - over a year after UO released.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
