If I could create a game, it would it be a survival/thriller mmo set in a prehistoric time, where man and dinosaur lived at the same time and different tribes of pre-human, dinosaur, and other beasts clashed in  PvE/PvP environments.

Features: Lots of crafting, exploration, socialization, combat, etc.  The combat would be something like the modern FPS type of mmos to come out, like Auto Assault, where a player is actively targetting and attacking, but stats and attributes still infuence success.  It would be heavy in socialization and roleplaying, with bonuses and incentive to work at making a good social structure, economy, etc.

It would be a seamless world, one map, no zones.  Instances may be used strictly for unique storytelling quests.

Races:  pre-human, dinosaurs, other mammals, maybe some other intelligent fictional races (lizardmen?)

What kind of Graphics:  I would use the Offset Engine, if possible.

Soundtrack:  If possible, I would hire Howard Shore, Jeremy Soule, or Johm Williams to come up with some modern classical tracks that fit.

I don't think many people would like this, lol.  But I would make it for me and whoever would enjoy it.

it would rank very low on www.mmorpg.com;  I would get seriously flamed.

But seriously, if I could, I would probably want to make an mmo set in the World of Darkness setting from White Wolf.

Awesome if you ever do make it Pm me Lol,
    I would play it..

    Sounds like a cool game,
Would the " Extras " cost anything (Like membership/Expansions)
Or would it be perm free?

If I had my way, it would be a one time cost for the box, and then free online play.  But a huge, seamless online persistant world would need lots of maintenance, I'm sure.  If there was a monthly fee, I would want all the expansions to be for free, like Linage II chronicles.

1st. I have never heard a song ingame. Just music.
2nd. How should you know how many people will like your game?

  • DowieDowie Member Posts: 280

If i would be able to make a mmo it would be a world with a medieval setting. There would be a FFA pvp system, but if you kill a PC you will get a bounty on you. If you get a bounty on you there will be guards attacking you on sight, so you cant enter the normal cities. And you should be able to build your own city but to be able to build a city without getting an army attacking it, you have to ask the king (who is a GM) if your allowed to build a city at that place you want it on. The world would only have one city from the start and thats the city where everybody starts in, but there will be more cities cooming up after the release when people start building them.

The combat system would be all skill based, no levels. You will start with one skill for example "sword swing". You will gain more skills trough paying gold to a trainer or reading books, and some very rare skills can only be learned from rare spawn NPC's. You will get better at a skill if you use them more often. And there will be no auto attack, all attacks are just what skills you are using.

The pvp will mainly be to protect your city from outlaws (you will be counted as an outlaw if you got a bounty on you), you will be able to burn down a city or take over it. And if you kill a PC with a bounty on them you will get his head as loot and you will give it to a npc in the "big city" to gain the ammount of money the bounty was. And if you killed a guy with a bounty on him in a group everyone in the group will loot the head, but the money will be split due to how many you are in the group.

All Items will mainly be bought of people that made them in a tradeskill. And the graphics would be something similiar to DAOC.

Well thats all i can think of atm :)

The signle biggest thing I would do is break away from the insane class/level system and go back to the UO skill system.

    I'd use crafting like UO's

    Ahh to heck with it:
    Modern Graphics
    Modern Sounds
Port the entire UO Game and concept into that and call it UONG (Ultima Online, the Next Generation) :)

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

    Still in: A couple Betas

Yeah, that would be a mmorpg I would definitely play.  I loved UO.

well, since i am so into seed i will probably make a game like that =) no monster slaying, trying to make something totally new. only i would give the biggest part ingame to repairing stuff. think that can turn out pretty cool.

    Gamma World Online

btw, this is a real rpg, so its not MY idea, so to speak

It would be set in the future around 2400 and set 100 years after a nuclear/biological war.

There would be several races: Android, Cyborg, Mutated Human, Human, Mutated Animal
    There would be Tech levels:
    Tech 1: Clubs, slings, etc
Tech 2: Swords, bows, pikes, etc
Tech 3: Grenades, rifles, revolvers, machine guns, etc
Tech 4: laser rifles, vibroblades, etc
Tech 5: black-ray pistols and alien type technology

There would be abilities instead of classes:

Androids would be stronger and more intelligent but would never possess mutations and their charisma would be lower and they could not weild any sort of lower tech weapons.
Cyborgs would posess human created mutations.
Mutated Humans would have natural mutations.
Humans would be the balanced race.
Mutated Animals would be sort of the same as mutated humans with the exception of higher dexterity and lower charisma.  Animals would not have the luxery of using any Tech 4 weapons.

Death penalty would be unique from any other game. If you get killed, you can not rez until someone comes along and gets you and carries you to a rez chamber. The person that gets you will receive xp for the task. There will also be a high level mutation that allows you to rez people.

Ok mine would be set in a futuristic world were there is a war going on between two rival nation's and the player would get the choice between playing as the invading force or the army defending the city.

Well with being a war there isn't a definitive badguy just the leader of the oppising nation, maybe everyone will disagree but if you get killed in game you stay dead and will have to start again with new character, harsh I know but it would give every battle and death meaning. Some of the other features would be your character class - soldier, ninja, medic + other classes - guns won't be in the game just swords, knifes etc. and depending on which class you choose you will have different abilities and clothes for example ninja class would be faster and more agile than the soldier class but the soldier would be stronger and tougher. There would be a chance to call out the opposing forces top fighter in an specific area were only those would be able to enter.

It would be one world with numerous maps, but no levels just battles and special missions. The missions would vary depending on class so soldier would be in full scale assaults on enemy bases and say the ninja would be in team of three sneaking into another base to get valuable info.

Same race just from different countries, different accents and backgrounds. Also customisable tatoos and clan badges.

Up to date graphics (sorry I don't know nothing about the different engines etc.)

You would be able to use the songs currently on your hardrive like on the xbox, custom soundtracks were you pick the songs you want to listen to.

Don't know as many as possible.

    Anywhere between 6 and 8. (I wish)

I'd create a game similar to EVE online but set in the
fantasy genre. I would want 95% of the player choices to affect the world. The
    features would be:

    1. FFA PvP anywhere, anyplace, anytime

    2. Players could own land, shops, trade routes, bridges, tolls. Players could
act as banks, horse breeders, other types of mount breeders, diplomats,
artists, masons, weapon/armor crafters, inventors, engineers, medics,
enchanters, miners, agriculturists, jewelry-makers, materialists, cloth,
leather, mail, plate makers, opticians, fletchers, bowyers, blacksmiths,
carpenters, gilders, coopers, smelters, scribes, translators, slave traders.

    3. Players could be in guilds or clans that could be a merchant guild,
financing guild, crafting guild, medical guild, mercenary guild, bounty hunting
guild, escort service (the non-adult kind), traders, investors, etc.

    4. There would be NPC guards though and some NPC activity. This would allow for
random NPC excursions happening in the world. Something to spice up the life.

    5. Players could build castles and actually rent out land to other players and
set up a kingdom. Essentially the player that owns the castle would be the
"king" of sort. Hopefully, he/she would be the leader of a guild that
would earn enough to build the castle.

    6. There would be mainly a skill system instead of levels. The more time you
play the more skills you achieve. You could put skill pts into any of the
professions and even cross-train other professions as you gain more skill pts.

    7. In aside to the professions there will be skill pts for combat. If someone
focuses on combat, you could assume that they would be lacking on the
    profession side and vice versa.

    8. I would try for 12, 15, or 18 races and then attempt to balance them. Each
race would have a special advantage that no other race can have. I would also
try to balance it so that hopefully all races would be played. Also, different
races would have different preferred professions and preferred classes.

8b. Sample races would be, human, elf, dwarf, half-elf, half-dwarf, elf-dwarf
mix, Centaur, Sprite, ogre, orc, troll, golem, evil elf, evil dwarf, evil
    human, a flying humanoid class.

    9. Classes would be in general terms, "melee, range, hybrid between
melee/range, stealth/melee, stealth, range, pure stealth, magic type 1, magic
type 1/melee hybrid, magic type 1/range hybrid, magic type 2, magic type
2/melee, magic type 2/ range hybrid, magic type1 and 2 hybrid, a tank class, a
druidic class, and some hybrids of that, also a psionic class, and a psionic/melee
hybrid, a kinetic class (speed melee). etc The goal would be to create a lot of
options, but the problem is balance. People will find which class is
"best" or kicks the most arse.

    10. There will be no lvl cap per se, but as a person increases in level and/or
skill pts there will be diminshing returns of course.

    11. If a person has let's say 100 skill pts and they put it all into combat,
then they would of course be better than a person who puts 50 skill pts into
combat and 50 skill pts into a profession.

    12. A person who goes straight into combat would gain wealth by having the
ability to do quests and be hired as a body guard, mercenary, assassin, etc.

    13. A person who goes straight into a profession can gain wealth by selling
their craft and if they put all 100 pts into a profession then they perhaps
could be the best horse breeder for example and thus will produce the best
horses in all the world. Thus they could get extremely rich doing that and they
may want to enlist into a guild that would protect the horse breeder in
exchange for money and horses in which the horse breeder gains protection and
    more power.

    14. People who have gained a lot of wealth in a profession can hire combat
players to undergo missions to retrieve items etc, escort their cargo from one
place or another, assassinate another player etc.

    15. Essentially, you can achieve "status" in the game through many
ways, one being combat, one being economic manipulation and the interplay
    between the two.

    16. You could also put skill pts into a number of professions and be a jack of
all trades, if it works out, then you can make money that way or you could
    focus on one profession.

    17. There will be random FFA PvP anywhere but there will also be a
coliseum/arena type atmosphere. Players can schedule duels in human built
coliseums/arenas etc and if they beat the other person they get whatever the
agreed prize is. Also, the owner of the coliseum will get money from the ticket
prices and perhaps some booky's can get money by placing bets.

    18. Goals: For people who go straight combat and not even care about a
profession can gain reknown by finding items that are soulbound and allowing
them options that money cannot buy. This would give the combat player the
ability to influence the world by military means, intimidations, or threats.

    19. Goals: for people who go straight professions and not care about combat can
gain reknown through wealth acquirement and then can buy and or build arenas,
houses, shops and have access to wealth no combat only person can ever gain alone.
With the wealth, the merchant can buy their ship, own many business and be able
    to influence the world economically.

    20. The more pts a person puts into the profession and the more they use it the
more abilities they will have, eventually at certain times in the server, the
highest ranked people in professions will get abilities that no one can ever
reach, a reward for their dedication.

    21. The history of the world may be that there are 3 factions all of which
start out with a certain amount of land or zones that are in their possession.
There will be some land that will already have castles, outposts, farms, towns,
etc, but there will also be a lot of empty land for the players to
    "cultivate".

The castles and such would be NPC owned until a players
amasses a force large enough to overcome it in which the castle would then be
owned by the guild and then certain benefits would start to come as with
greater responsiblity. There will also be NPC mercenaries so it may be a good
idea for a combat guild to merge with a merchant guild in which the merchant
guild provides funds while the combat guild provides support and security.
However, if you are a merchant guild, then you could have enough money to pay
NPC mercenaries or enslaved NPC races for protection. The combat guild could
also acquire resources by raiding towns, resources, piracy, assassinations,
    etc.

In the world, if one faction takes over another outpost of another faction,
that land now becomes the land of the victorious faction.

The goal of this game would not be to beat out WoW, it would be to gain a
mature, intelligent crowd that would be intensely fun for those who are
hardcore players. I would be happy with 500,000 players on a number of servers.

I would also create a server that would not allow IP's from asian countries to
make sure that there isn't abuse by farmers. I would have one server in which
there would be unlimited deaths and another server in which there would be a
limit of 100 deaths, and another server with a limit of 20 deaths.

There would be a slight incentive for people who play on the 100 or 20 death
servers to foster participation. The incentive may be better items and server
reknown. The server reknown would vary from server to server but if on that
server if they were invaded by the underground or whatever (NPC only faction) and a few guilds
combined to stop them then the kings or leaders of those guilds would go down
as "heroes of whatever war" and then they would gain specialized loot
that would be given out by myself. Also, statues of their characters would be
made in some places of the world forever immortalizing them.

Also, I may have a consentual PvP server and a 25 or older server. I may also
include a server where you get 1 death only a la hardcore Diablo 2. (I used to
duel and PK in diablo 2 hardcore so it's quite fun)

    22. Items would be primarily crafted and bought on the market or found in even
more rare cases, and if they are found on loot, you would most likey have to repair it. If there was a weapon crafting guild out there that solely
specialized on crafting weapons and they were reknown for that then if a really
rich combat player wanted the sword of 1337ness made, the only option would be
to have the guild make it for them.

    23. Crafting would be a combination of skill pts into that skill, materials and
quality of materials used, and how many times you've crafted the weapon before.
There would be a random multiplier on the crafts, for example if you're making
an item for the first time there would be like a 1/5 chance of it being
excellent quality which would add some bonus to it or 2/5 of being normal and
2/5 of being bad quality. The more times you did the craft and the more overall
crafts you have done would increase the chance for having a good craft. Also,
there different quality materials to use.

    24. Furthermore, many items will need many different crafters to make it, like
a full plate of 1337 armor would require maybe 20 different crafters to craft
    different pieces etc.

    25. Also, some items would require 5 people of the same craft to make it.

    26. Also, mounts like horses would have certain attributes, the more pts a
person puts into horse breeding the better the horses attributes will be and
thus the more they can sell the horse for. If there's only one person who focuses on horse breeding and thus produces the best horses in the world, that person will be highly sought after and will be able to carve out a nice niche on their own.

I know this is a lot but that's what I would do.

I'm not sure what graphics I would use, but definitely not cartoony, i'd try
for very crisp graphics. I kind of like the lineage 2 graphics.

The goal of the game would be to provide more options for procurement of wealth
and reknown other than the hack and slash. People would have to use their brain
and in a short time people can carve a nice niche for themselves in the game. Games like WoW have only one niche and that is to raid forever to get awesome items to keep raiding forever. There really is no purpose to gaining any items in WoW if you really look at it. In this game, if you are on a server with a limited amount of deaths, your goal for gaining better gear or wealth or protection is so that you can live and not die.

People will gain skill pts by quests, the quests can be combat quests or
profession related quests or a combination of the two. Also, the amount of time
on the server will help a little bit and who you meet. If you go exploring in
the forest, you might find the secluded gnoll who would give you a quest or
just by finding him you could gain skill pts. Also, if you own a shop you could
gain skill pts etc. There procurement of skill pts wouldn't stop but you
couldn't just sit and do nothing and get to the highest level there would be
    some progress and difficulty required.

The customization would be very comprehensive like everquest, no two players
will look the same, the hair style would be detailed down to the type, color,
style, shape, and how it grows. The body type, height, and sex will be able to
change. There would be benefits to being tall as well as disadvantages. I may
also want to include a feature where you could take a picture of your face and
include it in the game as the face of the person. Tattoos will be available as
    well.

That's just a little of what I would include in a game. The game would cost
$50, the updates would be frequent and regular, there would be a subcription
and perhaps an age limit of at least 18 or 21.

Overall, I want options in the game, I want people to use their brain to carve a nice niche for themselves. I'm not in it for mass appeal, I just want to produce an amazing game in which a person will never get bored. I wouldn't require people to use spreadsheets like I hear EVE does but it would be fun.

I alluded to some personal rewards given out by myself to those people on limited death servers, what I would do is review the heroes character and then determine what is the best loot for them and then have it created and given to them by the next update. For example, if a king happened to be a huge financier that was able to hire thousands of NPC slaves to fight against the NPC invading force then I could give that person, if they are a financier wealth, if they are perhaps a weapon crafter, I would give them a new recipe that they would be the only one who could create that weapon and thus have a total monopoly on it.

Essentially, i would want being in a guild to mean privelages that only that guild gets.

I am sorta still working on my game. We've been "working" on it for about 3yrs and really don't have a whole lot done. We have our engine done, but that's about it. (if you dont' know anything about games, the engine is the hardest part... most games buy engines off other companies: engine != game maker) Both of us are really busy w/ RL things and haven't had much time but the basis of it is:

    Post Apacolyptic/Other Planet
Thousands of Levels (instead of being lvl 60 you would be lvl 50,000)
    Sandbox Game
Factions like WoW (we came up w/ it first! well... info on WoW wasn't released at the time) but isntead of being pinned down to Alliance or Horde your actions in game would put you where you were supposed to be. IE: Huma Imperialists, Alien Rebels, Mercenary

We really have a good concept of the game. We just need more time to put into it. We are accepting time donations if you have any. IE: Donate 5hrs a day so we can have 29hr days instead of 24.

Ok I had another idea what about a game where you start off as the ancients of the galaxy millions and millions of years ago, the first people who play the game would start out as the ancients and would battle for supremecy and the right to be ruler. These ancients would then be able to travel through space in custmisable ships and populate the galaxy and rule over their subjects as players who join the game later would start out as these basiclly slave people and as they gradually rise through the ranks of the slaves they would be given the oppertunity to overthrow their oppressors and live as free people....or they could use the ancients ships, technology and weapons and collonise a new uncharted world or even attack a world fully populated allready start a war between the two.

My dream is a sim. A sim so close to reality (not in terms of graphics, that's fairly irrelevant) that players can design their own items, with some kind of 3D engine that takes the attributes of the itme and changes the appereance according to the attributes, and according to the done reseacrh.

For example the player corporation wiches to design a new missile with a much longer range. Ok, then you get some options, decrease the pay-load, so it's lighter and thus can fly longer. Or have stronger fuel (which wouldn't have any visual changes, maybe only to the exhaustion colors) which would force the corp to refine that fuel, design it (using some kind of chemicals engine, also used to invent new metals and such) and so forth. I guess the corp will just go for a bigger fuel storage. Hence a longer missile, tho they'll have to adjust their missile launching tubes then.

Just a small example. I say sim because sims need very little programming compared to the possibilites. When you model world to the real world you would have so much freedom that you wouldn't need gameplay mechanics.

My vision of this game is something like EVE/Starport but different. The game starts of after the chaos of the huge economical and environmental crisis of the 21th century, when manking realizes that they should go exploit space.

This is where the player comes in. The player can start a corp, get in a political party on earth, and things like that. I'm reluctant to allow a real representaton of the player, like a body. Preferably only maps, locations and such. Why? Because I think in terms of makeability. And i don't think it would be possible to make every single capitol on earth. But maybe my imagination isn't big enough.

The character starts out at the same level as the NPC's, but the player has more possibilities. The only raison d'être for NPC's is voting and consuming and being soldier and dieing. Very Happy

In this early game the player can sign up to a corp, owned by players. I don't know how it would go further. I have no idea. Maybe the players in politics will band together and bring mankind to space in a joint effort. Dunno, maybe mega-corps will emerge, offering pay-to-colonize arangements, allowing players to depart to mars or whatever. Maybe mankind will go straight to Europa, the watery moon of Jupiter.

All depends on the players. But to do all this they have to research and an economy to support their efforts. Of course war and strife will come into play.

I don't know how this will work technically, I was thinking an engine which makes territories according to the desirability. For example if in 2340 a massive Lunar (a confederacy of moon colonisation domes) desides to attack The Antarctian Commonwealth then the engine would create a forsty plain on which the player controled walk bots and NPC controled (npc's controled by generals (players of course, which use military doctrines, researched along the same lines as any other item, would be unique: social research)) tanks/whatever.

After the battle is done, the server would remember the main characteristics of the area for future reference.

This is basicly how I have the perfect idea in my head, with many details of which I cnat' really tell the main things, unless you ask about them.

    What ya think?
