The latest BioWare studio update has been published. Penned by Casey Hudson, the letter talks about how hard the team is working to get Anthem ready to ship on February 22nd and about Hudson's own time spent in game during a recent "Play From Home" session. He writes of the signature things he finds in Anthem that are expected for a BioWare title, but also speaks about superheroic gameplay that makes him want to come back just for the "feel" of it.

My trust for Casey Hudson is nearly nonexistent. However, I am hopeful.

May the Chaos forever bind you to it's glory.

I’m still not sold on Anthem. Andromeda (refunded on the same day of purchase) and the current state of SWTOR make me question Bioware’s ability.

It's not like his company/job's future hinges on the game being a success or anything... I'm sure he's being very objective.

I like what I see. I worry about the scope of what I have not yet seen.

That is also how I can summarize Destiny's beta before it's high quality but low content release.

Don't worry, EA can still buy Obsidian once they've done with Bioware.
There are still a handful of respectable developers they can buy, squeeze, and throw away.
Mind you, Bioware will be in good company:

Maxis (SimCity) - Purchased by EA in 1997; shut down in 2015.

Mythic (Dark Age of Camelot) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2014.

Bullfrog (Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper) - Purchased by EA in 1995; shut down in 2001.

Origin (Ultima, Wing Commander) - Purchased by EA in 1992; shut down in 2004.

Westwood (Command & Conquer) - Purchased by EA in 1998; shut down in 2003.

DreamWorks Interactive (Medal of Honor) - Purchased by EA in 2000; shut down in 2013.

Phenomic (SpellForce, BattleForge) - Purchased by EA in 2006; shut down in 2013.

Black Box Games (Need for Speed, Skate) - Purchased by EA in 2002; shut down in 2013.

Pandemic (The Saboteur) - Purchased by EA in 2008; shut down in 2009.

PlayFish (The Sims Social) - Purchased by EA in 2009; shut down in 2013.

NuFX (NBA Street) - Purchased by EA in 2004; shut down in 2007.

Obsidian now belongs to Microsoft, so EA would have to provide some serious cash.

It isn't. Considering Microsoft already fucked Obsidian to a degree that almost destroyed the company with the cancelation of Stormlands.

Oh please give it a rest.  The deal was great for gamers.  With Microsofts play anywhere platform console and pc gamers should applaud this deal.

As for Stormlands it had been sitting on as shelf in the Obsidian office since 2006 and was finally canceled in 2012.  It obviously had some major issues.

"Microsoft cancelled Stormlands in March 2012 during the final meeting, right before it was going to be greenlit. A source told the site that Stormlands was aiming to be a “premiere RPG,” but there are not other details available about the game. Obsidian reportedly laid off 30 developers after the game was cancelled."

Nowhere does it say it almost "fucking killed obsidian".

Shouldn't the words "give it a rest" apply when the line of conversation has grown excessive, rather than at the start? That's needlessly hostile.

As for the deal, well, I'm open to the possibility of it being a good thing. Obsidian is reportably a poor place to work and suffers from financial issues, so this will undoubtedly be a good thing for the company and the employees. Hell, even much maligned publishers like EA provide much needed safety nets and typically better compensation and benefits for employees with less turnover (even the shut down studios above are often just absorbed into other studios to keep many of those employees working).

Whether that will be good for the games or the gamers has yet to be seen. Only time will tell. Usually, it's not a good thing for the games.

The "give it a rest" was more of a broad stroke rather than a direct swipe at you.  When the deal was announced there were a few who had your take.

I am going with this deal will be good for the games.

I will keep my fingers crossed, but based on past experience there is no reason to consider it as being 'good for gamers' at all.
As for Microsofts 'play anywhere console platform', i think the allusion is supposed to be positive in some way, though i fail to see in what way that could be as the limitations are more crippling than beneficial. :/
