When I met up with Emmanuel Freund, a Mists of Pandaria mousemat hugged the corner of his demo desk. It turns out that the co-founder and CEO of cloud gaming service Shadow had been logging into World of Warcraft since the early days of beta, although nowadays he calls it ‘testing’ rather than ‘playing’. Freund had stopped off in London on his way to Shadow World, a fan celebration and chance to share upcoming new features.

Right? With a mifi controller, I could play just about anything from anywhere.

Yep, I've managed to play Destiny 2 over 4G on a Oneplus 6 with an Xbox One bluetooth controller. It works fine while static, but I wouldn't suggest bouncing between cell towers too much.
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.
You're missing the point. This isn't to replace Discord.
The Hive platform is for people who already have Shadow, and just want to share their picture with a friend on a one-to-one basis. It makes Shadow more useful, but that's it.
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.
I wish I could agree with you and I think you'd be right maybe a year ago, but with current tech pricing. And...certain taxes...that may be coming to the US. $420 really wouldn't do as much as you would think. At least not for playing games on all high settings.
You can barely buy a video card that would play Shadow of the Tomb Raider on high for that much. If you needed Mobo, RAM, CPU you'd barely be able to scratch something brand new from that.
Used market though maybe...
You're missing the point. Shadow isn't intended to replace the gaming desktop. Instead, it's supposed to turn a low-spec laptop (like a cheap $200 BestBuy special), or a tablet, or a smartphone, into something that plays your PC games.
For some people who spend most of their game-time on a high-end rig at home, that's not really useful. But for those of us that travel a fair bit, or who want more flexibility about where they game, it's the perfect solution.
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.
