i have pointed out before that a online FO was hottly requested at one point.
Now this game is not what was asked for, but no one would be crazy enough to do a full scale MMO for such a small franchice as FO.
I do agree with a fair amount of red´s points. I am right now stuck on the kill Evan quest (a quick reminder why i hate questmobs that do not repawn in a proper way.) so shit happens.
But i still enjoy the game, i really like the simple fact that the game does not give a flying fuck about what you do, even by Bethesda standards.. =P I can just mill about without feeling like there is a overarching quest that needs to dealt with.
In a way FO4 had that too since the main breadcrumb quest was so low stakes it hardly did matter. But i still felt i should try to find out if my kid was still alive or not. =P
It is a very flawed game but much like cherry coke it fills some tiny role in the grand universe.
There actually is another FO Online: FOnline: Reloaded. Isometric game much closer to the original Fallout title than the modern ones.
Quite the show going on for sure. Still though, every time my wife and I load the game we have a great time together for the next few hours. Hopefully this circus doesn't put the game to death, Bethesda cleans up their act and continue to improve the game for a long time to come.
I'm getting sick of games I have a good time in get crapped on and dumped.
After putting many many hours into FO76, I still don't understand why there's so much HATE over this title. The game is buggy yes but not anywhere near where people make it out to be. People are just a bunch of "followers" instead of taking things into their own hands and making their own opinion. Sad times, sad sad times
Seriously, the issues are being blown way out of proportion. All the most fun parts of Fallout, like looting everything the game allows, exploring, and running into big baddies are still there, and are really fun to boot. If anyone likes those things more than story they're doing themselves a diservice by not trying the game. If you don't want to take your chances with the more severe bugs that's fine I guess. Just wait til the bugs are fixed. The game will probably be cheaper from the bad press by then too, maybe even for console players.
If players are complaining about the actual gameplay, then they're not fans of recent Fallout games in the first place. Story isn't really game play.
Anyways... Off to rule the wastes with my flaming pitchfork!

I agree with you that this Fallout is for the sandbox fans, not so much story-based RPG fans.
I think the users we have here on the boards have shown us that those who wanted the open world are enjoying FO76 much more than those who were hoping for more tales from the Wasteland.

It's sort of similar to Elder Scrolls Online.
It's not he Elder Scrolls mmorpg that I would have liked. I gave it a try and just can't get into it so I'm done with it.
But I recognize that Zenimax wanted to truly make a "mmo" rpg over Morrowind/Skyrim/Oblivion online.
I think the same with this Fallout. They sort of looked at the crux of what the fallout world really was, and it is a post apocalyptic world which sort of screams survival game. So that's what they made.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I think that's all you should have put in this article and left it at that.
I'm over 200 hours in and still having fun with it. I might not last too much longer but I certainly got my monies worth out of it.
Sure the crashing after the last patch was annoying but it was fixed quickly. Sucks your friends have moved on. This is the most popular game right now for the guild I'm in so plenty of people for me to play with if I decide to group up.
The shovel is beside the grave. Evan can be found and who the f cares about somebody else's crap bag they'll throw in a box to make way for the next over priced special edition they buy next.
I'm surprised the wagon still has space for all of you jumping on.
From what story I've seen so far, it's not so bad. I haven't really focused on experiencing it though so, I just catch bits of it here and there. Leaving out NPCs has made the world seem a little less alive, even though they were aiming for the opposite with all live humans being players. I'd like NPCs, who knows if they'll put em in later. Maybe, maybe not. They did say the game will evolve with player feedback though so I guess anything is possible.
I'm glad there's no global text or voice chat though, since those would kill the immersion.

I think it would be a good idea to implement them, even if they fail to come up with a legitimate lore reasoning for doing so.
I don't doubt the environmental storytelling is good. Bethesda is pretty much king of environmental storytelling. But to relegate the entirety of lore and story to canned lines with no interaction, it makes it seem to me as if the storytelling is an audiobook they fit inside a video game.
The holotapes and notes in FO4 are awesome, but they're awesome because it's icing on the cake, not the cake itself. I feel as if Bethesda may have overestimated the role such environmental storytelling can fill.
I wasn't planning on playing it due to their PvP system but a couple friends kept bugging me to so here I am. Glad they did. But not that thrilled to be playing on a console with their crappy framerate. Really wish console developers would aim for 60 instead of 30 fps.
Well, in spite of their canned PR responses about communicating better with players, seems the latest patch introduced nerfs Bethesda never indicated would be included, nerfing public camps and fusion core decay rate.
No one is this incompetent. It doesn't take a genius to realize you shouldn't ninja-nerf shit right after telling players you want to communicate with them better.

Ignore all that. There's nothing wrong with liking a game other people don't. I do it all the time. One of the things a lot of people can't seem to figure out is that just because someone else likes something, doesn't mean you suck because you don't or something. People crap all over articles I write about games I like that they don't, as if they're the founts of the one true opinion and everyone else should bow beneath their mighty position.
bah. Morons. Dig the game because you dig it, never mind what I or anyone else says. My negative opinion, those times I express it, may even be of value to you. If you know I don't like some things that you specifically like, then those comments are really good because they point you towards something that you might enjoy.
In fact, I'd REALLY like you to chime in and tell me why you like something I don't like when that happens. Even if it's not my bag, I really enjoy hearing from folks who do enjoy things different from what I do and what they like about it.
For instance, why do you think you two enjoy FO76 more than something like Conan Exiles?

So everyone who has a different opinion from yours are "followers?" You might examine that statement for the enclosed hypocrisy. lol
I can assure you that with years of being counter to public opinion behind me, I am most definitely not a follower. I'm happy to point out the things I think were done well in FO76, but that doesn't minimize the problems it has, nor does it in any way take away from my frustrations at some of the corporate decisions the company has made in recent years.

Ah, I apologize. Let me know when the "Don't you dare to criticize something I like" bandwagon comes around and I'll be sure to load up on the appropriate one.
Do they hand out juvenile comments rather than peanuts on that particular carrier? It seems like every customer I've met has them.
I never bought it. The first gameplay video showed me everything I needed to know about it. What was coming was obvious.
So much this The gameplay just looked clunky and real crap to me. Even watching videos of gameplay just look bad to me.
I'm not sure I agree with that. A lot of the gameplay is pretty inline with recent FO titles. If you like FO, that's probably not a good reason to give it a pass.
There ARE plenty of reasons. Just that this may not be the best if it's you're only hangup.

Right, Fallout's gun-play and animations have always been lousy , V.A.T.S was the piss poor combats saving grace. It's pretty shocking when you think about the fact Bethesda took the weakest parts of the fallout series and made them the feature of their new game .
How they could overlook or just ignore the fact the fanbase was playing their games for the RPG elements is beyond me.

Maybe make it a craftable opt-in?
For human NPCs? I would love to see them craft cloning vats and create NPCs haha. But how would that work with narrative content?
