While I question whether or not that would be legal (is it legal or are there people breaking the law to make that happen) Different cultures means "different cultures."

No one laments the treatment of animals for food more than I but when a society looks at food as just that "food" they aren't going to be too caring about the care of their food.

While it's more complicated than all this, you need to remember that this is happening "now."

Would IP man be made now? Would the 5 Deadly Venoms be made "now?"

The movies your talking about were made in the old days when the British controlled Hong Kong.

That treaty expired in 1997 and Hong Kong was returned to the Chinese.

Look at the Wolf Warrior movies. Great movies btw but still they are both very violent and gore filled. Yes there is underlying political meaning but still shows a certain amount of double standard. But then everytime a Jackie Chan movie comes out here people flock to it even though he is a gigantic piece of douchebag.

I think this is more about the online culture and them limiting internet as much as possible.

I'm not saying there couldn't/isn't a double standard and that perhaps there are people in their government who have issues with video games, but if their government is cracking down on violence/nudity (and apparently parodies) "now" then is it affecting their movies that are releasing "now" or soon to release?

Censorship has different levels for different things. And don't try to find any consistency in it. There are still violent movies being made in mainland China. But cinema faces a different sort of censorship compared to national TV or video games.

Same like you can't say Fuck on national TV over the pond but you have Tarantino movies in the cinemas.

The thing is, when you put a group in charge of what people are allowed to say, hear, watch, make, play, etc. what you get in the end is censorship. And everyone doing this believe they are doing it for the better of their society, and what they do is different compared to what has been done before.

Part of me can understand why they do this and it's because the Chinese value morals and tradition over freedom, but the other part of me feels glad that I live in a country that puts freedom and self expression first and trusts me to live and experience life.
