DanaDana Member Posts: 2,415

SOE has announced some new additions are coming to EverQuest II. Just in advance of E3, the word is that the new expansion pack will be called Echoes of Faydwer and the next adventure pack dubbed The Fallen Dynasty.

Echoes of Faydwer will offer a new race (the Fey) and a whack of new content. The adventure pack carries more new content with an Asian-theme. They also included two images from each product, which are included (and marked) below.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Asian themed accessible content with wings and new mounts.

It's like they don't even have a visionary director.  They just copy whatever everyone else is doing.

Noooo! God what's with the asian themes?! It ruined Ultima Online (well it was dead before it). God dammit.

Ugh, more content. You do realize you can play EQ2 without any expansions if you want.

Where as games like WoW have not a single expansion and the content is old about a year ago.

EQ2 has had a lot of free content, what's that then? The adventure packs are dirt cheap. Anyone that plays EQ2 at the levels of the expansions WANT them.

Lets see, sit around running the same 3-4 zones 100 times at level 60 or get 2 expansions with a 3rd on the horizon and have a lot more stuff to do. I know what  I'd do.

As to "asian" content, big deal, It's one pack not the entire game. Are you gonna complain that DoF was a Arabian theme? I thought not.

QFT. and the mechanical sh!t is of course ripped off from WOW. And the new race is Fae?!?  Yeah whatever. A Fae tank all pimped out in epic gear tanking..sure.
EQ2 is sliding down faster and faster. They're trying SO hard to keep the ca$h coming in and keep the suckers..er,subscribers from leaving.
I gave it up after DOF because it was so buggy and no QA and totally worthless.  They just keep churning out expansions and  Adv Packs till they can get people back.

They lost it a long time ago, and the magic aint gonna come back. oh well, I had fun at the release for a little while. Aint never gonna go back to it.

Hey newbie, go look at everquest 1, they had mechanical themes at launch...years before WoW was even an idea in someones head. And by the screens its just a remake of those old zones.

But I will agree that it's just a money grab.

It's not so much that Everquest has lost the magic. It's just that SOE doesn't have one of the major key factors, at least THE key factor, of what made EQ1 such succes anymore. That is the limited number of actual mmorpgs to choose from. When EQ1 came out there was Ultima Online basiclly. Asheron's Call 1 came out around the same time. Each of these games were pretty different from one another. The market was small. SOE's just happen to appeal to a different group of people. Now that same group the game appeals to have far more choices and Everquest isn't the only game in town. Take that combined with people haven gotten tired or burned out on the grind SOE puts in it's games to keep people playing when players know that isn't need nor what they want then Everquest is going to loose subscribers and not grow the way SOE wants.

Take that and that a lot of people seem to want to stay away from SOE due to how they've handled things, especailly Star War Galaxies and they face even more problems. SOE shot themselves in the foot a long time ago when things became so raiding focused I think along with releasing clearly unfinished expansions. They've burned the fanbase to many times and people have taken notice. Yes they still have a lot of players but I'm pretty such had they gone about things differently over the years they'd have LOT more now.

I think the other thing that hurt eq2 compared to 1 was the lack of starting zones.  I mean, come on.  You can only hang around Qeynos/Freeport so long before you are bored stiff.  And since all alts have to start in the same place, same thing.  Yes, they tried changing up the Island, but still just the Island.  Nowhere near the same as starting in Qeynos or Freeport or Kelethin or Ak'Anon or Grobb or Neriak or Rivervale or Kaladim...well, you get my point.  Choice is a very good thing for replayability.  And ALL of those cities were in from the start of EQ1 so right off the bat eight different ways to play.  Not to mention TRUE character/class differences where it was a different experience to start up different alts.

What I think really killed EQ2 was boredom.  Some of us aren't and never will be raiders.  We want the RPG experience that comes from exploring and interacting with NPCs, with some grouping along the way to meet like minded folks.

I see with this they are putting in a new city/class...but lol, how many people want to be fae?  Where are the true combat races similar to Beastlords that would/should thrive in a post apocalyptic Norrath?

I wish the game well, but I think until they quit trying to make a WoW clone and then go back to the basics of opening the old cities they will continue to lose players...regardless of their spin on server mergers.

I would reactivate my account today if they released content containing all the old starting cities and zones of EQ1 and the race/class combination choices, where evil classes are truly evil and vice versa.

I have been a faithfull player of EQ 2 since its release, to the point I have two accounts.

What upset from SOE it is that their obvious corporate greed where they focus on releasing expansions as fast possible, instead of focusing the obvious class balance issues. In the 2.5 years the game have been out they classes still unbalance when it comes to DPS and skills.

It is shame that nwo without even fixing this issues and KOS just got release a couple of month ago now they are planning to release:

    1) expansion pack

    2) adventurer pack

If you trully look at KOS the mayority of the areas are just plain mirrors of each others. The transportation system is not reliable and buggy most of the time. (NOT FIXED YET). The announcement came in the same day that a new raiding zone was added to the game.

Well before i keep bashing SOE. Thsi is just my 2 cents

Amen brother. Very true. Would you recommend a MMO with more substance that EQ 2 where Raiding, class balance and variety are the key. Is there such thing out there?

    thank you

You guys are, to put it bluntly, incredibly ignorant. First of all, to those who are saying this is a money grab, look at what SOE has added to EverQuest II for FREE since launch.

    http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/content.vm?page=TonsofContentAdded

Next up, ripping ideas from WoW: The continent of Faydwer in EverQuest had Clockworks in the areas of Steamfont and Ak'Anon. They were everywhere. Those "stolen ideas" came from EverQuest. From Faydwer. From the place they are recreating in EverQuest II. Stop being so effing stupid.

The Asian theme: You freaking realize that this is created in cooperation with SOGA. Sony Online Gamania. Gamania, is an Asian company, and you are being completely ignorant once again. Given that Gamania is a company IN Asia, and the Adventure Pack was originally destined for the Asian market, it follows that it would have an Asian theme. In addition, the Asian theme is one of the few themes not currently within EverQuest II, so it's very welcome.

My opinion is that you are all incredibly jealous that the EQII team can put out way more FREE content than WoW and launch several Adventure and Expansion packs to boot. New content, new features, new things for EQII players to do while WoW players sit around bored as freaking sin for years.

Class Balance: If you have played a number of MMOs, you will realize that EverQuest II classes are far more balanced than just about anything out there. Honestly, can you name another MMO with classes that are better balanced?

Finally, don't effing comment on this thread unless you play EverQuest II. If you don't play it, or have not played it within the past two months, you have no grounds from which to state your case of complete ignorance about the game. It is better than anything else out there, and the team puts together more FREE and pay content than any other game, by far.

  • GonodilGonodil Member Posts: 335

I wasted $50 buying that PoS at launch, and I played EQ1 since 1999, so sftu, I have a right to call sony a money grubbing whore all I want.

And btw, listing all the bug fixes and minor game improvments as "free game content" is such a stupid little marketing ploy, and you're pretty damn dumb to go along with it.

Every game has added crap like that....except other companies only point out their free content when it's something major (Example: DAoC...Free Housing expantion, free RvR zone revamp, free new RvR area, not to mention they give their earliest expantions for free now to new users)

Bug fixes aren't some amazing free content, that's the content you're paying some $15 a month for, you idiot.

SOE is selling stuff to their playerbase what other games gladly give for free. Im amazed anyone plays this garbage.
