"
CRUSADE is a revolutionary fantasy-based MMORPG that allows thousands of people
to play together in a virtual world that features multiple races, powerful weapons and armor,
deadly magic, epic quests, ancient places to discover, the utilization of detailed
tradeskills, and more."
This was taken directly from the official 'Crusade' website. I got there via the news forum while bored at work. The MMO itself looks crap, made by the same guy that did Horizonz (asiff thats something to brag about).
Anyway, what got me was this opening paragraph. How can gamesmakers repeatedly claim their games are 'revolutionary'? When they are clearly not, isn't there some kind of law against it? The number of aweful MMO's being released, each claiming to be revolutionary in some way, none succeeding, is quite scarey! When will gamesmakers realise they are talking absolute bollocks? When will they realise they are basing their games on games that are beginning to fail?
We can send a man to the moon, why can't we create a FUN mmo?!

And really - look at the list of upcoming MMO's they are all trying their best to be as thier predecesors....
Vanguard = EQ
WAR = WoW
"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas
And yes there is a thing called False Advertising but throw ONE 'revolutionary'(i.e. new) feature into the game and you're completly safe from that one. Despite its major issues Horizons was pretty different from the run of the mill MMO and I'm hoping this one might have an interesting piece somewhere in it too.
Yes I know false advertising doesn't actually apply here anyway.
Lead Designer, Islands of War
Warlock L80, WoW Mug'thol
Warden L50, DaoC Percival
EVE Pilot
Not every game maker
Also some MMO's and new commers/indie groups feel real pressured to say flashy things to make up for areas they lack in or just to draw the crowd of players their way. Trust me sometime I get tempted to say something flashy but at the end of the day I avoid it.

well, the name is new...
Of course devs are going to brag about their games. They want to make money right? Can you imagine what it would sound like if they were completely honest....
Welcome to the site of the not so exciting new game Redundancy! Redundancy is a rehash of everything that came before! Venture boldy forth into a mediocre 3D world!
Seek adventure only to find tedious grinding!
Play one of 12 races and 14 classes...some of which we renamed to make you think we did something different!
Enjoy a fully player controlled economy (by which we mean you can trade your virtual trinkets with each other).
Be an anonymous crafter toiling away in obscurity to make junk items that nobody wants, knowing all the while that your crafting is nothing more than a money sink!
Aspire to legendary status by enduring horrifically long and boring raids at the endgame! In Redundancy only the greatest legendary characters can sit on their bed-sore ridden behinds for 10 hours straight while following a herd of like minded players led by a necessarily over-bearing, obsesive, control freak who screams orders at them with his shrill ten year old voice! Do YOU have what it takes to be a legend?
Watch as we destroy the few things you do like about the game with each added expansion!
Yes, in Redundancy you'll do it all again! And fear not! Plans are already in place to begin development of Redundancy II. So when you finally cancel your subscription in frustration and despair we will be ready to try to suck you into another boring, piece of crap game.
Could someone actually link us to this game so we can maybe find out what they think makes it revolutionary?
Either way, its just a buzz word. The "unique/new" hook in advertising. I don't think there is any point in getting riled up about it.

Trade Wars... not really an MMO but it was the game the launched MMOs.
A Work in Progress.

WAR = WoW ?!
That's new
Rattrap, I suggest u to go to the warhammer site and read about _what_ warhammer was, is and will be. Just 'cause you've seen that orc screenshot, which btw shows an (original) orc, which blizzard copied from games workshop's arts and modells to their pvm fanboi game, don't claim WAR to be WoW. It's in fact totally ... w r o n g.

And I'd almost take a "<insert upcoming MMO> = UO" at this point...
Revolution be damned.
Anyway, as far as Crusade's "revolutionary" features go, it's just the same type of self promotion that you would see on any radio and televison commercial, infomercial, or movie trailer. The MMO universe hasn't been exempt from this for a long time.
The game looks like it's so far from release that all their description says to me is, "We're not entirely sure what this thing's going to be when it hits the ground, but we want to get the word out early. Enjoy some fluffy and nondescript drivel." I didn't go looking very hard for a release date though.

100% agree that UO was one of the only revolutionary MMO's. however I also think EQ was revolutionary in many ways, so many games have ripped off EQ it's unbeleivable.
As for WAR = WOW........... wha?! If anything its gonna be like DAoC (as it's made by the same peeps), after reading about it though, it sounds pretty unique. WAR is possibly one of the only MMO's i'm truely looking forward to at the moment, i've got great confidence in it being both unique and exciting!
And yea, i guess people are right, 'revolutionary' is just a buzz word to catch stupid people off guard. It just pisses me off when every new game, no matter how entirely identical to every other MMO out there, claims it's completely unique and revolutionary......... lies i tell you, LIES!
I reckon the MMORPG fan base should club together and write our own MMO it'd own hard.
