Hi all,
I´m a casual gamer (come from wow), and i would like to play eq2.
Could I, like wow, progress in game playing solo? or it´s impossible.
thx in advance

Hi Spanishspell,
Yes, you can solo the entire game, as there is a ton of solo and group content all over. Remember, though, solo critters drop not-so-good loot. Heroic and group critters drop much better loot, since there is more danger.

The only thing I didn't like about solo/duo'ing this game is that Heroic mobs stop you dead in your tracks unless they are several levels lower than you. My partner and I would be working our way through a nicely challenging instance and then we'd come accross a couple of Heroic mobs and that put an instant end to our adventure. We would have to come back 5 or 6 levels later to finish the quest when the rewards were essentially worthless. The price you pay for being a solo'er, I suppose. But the answer to your question is definately yes, you could make it to the higher levels as a pure solo player if you wanted to.
WoW is a easy trip compared to EQ2. I casual solo'ed WoW as a hunter in three or four months (grouped twice in 60 levels, both times only to kill quest mobs). EQ2 was MUCH slower.

I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.
So really there is no harm in trying to find a group while you solo, even if you are a casual gamer.
Soling in EQ2 can be considered "non-profitable".
You will gain everything x10 times faster with group and there are nothing that says you should solo.
Soloing mobs for exp goes ultra slow, and the only classes which can really solo are melee classes.
Soloing will only be profitable in PvP. As you gain more points while being solo (I think). But then again melee or scouts have it the easier in soloing in PvP.
Don't think you can solo with any class. I am a level 49 defiler (priest support class) and soloing a mob epic level 30 takes several minutes and tons of power, so when it's dead I have to wait for my power to recharge.
This game is not primairly built for soloing and should be considered a group game. And it does one hell of a good job at being one too.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
All classes CAN solo, they just do it differently. While a Mage can burn the mob down fast, there is a high chance of death. While the tank, with low DPS, is relatively safe while fighting and will have a much longer fight. Someone that puts on auto-attack and walks away is not playing wisely. A SINGLE mob does not always mean it's a SOLO-able mob.
There are also many other factors to consider; gear/spell upgrades, player skill, refresh timers of spells, your level, mob level, the difference between the two levels, heroic or not, difficulty (up or down arrows), caster-mob, group-mob, adds, and maybe a little luck. I found the best I could solo was a single blue^^^ harpy in Desert of Flames.
I also have a 35 Warden alt, and know that I have to take on a different difficulty of creature. The battles are longer and I use different tactics. A caster with root can stay out of range of a mobs AE attacks, while a melee class will get hit with everything. Other classes can debuff and slow the mob, Scouts can stun and attack from behind.
At lower levels, the coin will be slow, and grouping always produces better loot from harder mobs. But don't dispair, the faster money will eventually come. When I used to solo in Desert of Flames for goblins, I'd bring in about 1pp a day from loot drops in a few hours.
There are solo mobs everywhere, along with group mobs. The solo player will have to explore around and find them. Sometimes I can't seem to take 3 steps without tripping over one.

As everyone has said, yes you can solo. Some classes are good, some aren't.. - Right now, don't pick a troub/dirge if you want to solo.. I have a 60 troub, and you cannot solo worth of crap, with them.
A GREAT soloer class, would be Necromancer/Conjuror, and the next best way to level with either of these quests, believe it or not, is questing. I know someone that's turned XP off, and quested up to level 40+ so far, don't know where he's at now, but yes, soloing it quite possible, and very easy.
It all depends on your Cup-O-Tea. Roll a few classes, and try it out, and it's slow, but not near as slow as L2 soloing,. 8)
First of all, soloing in EQ2 is actually what I do to make money. I ton of vendor trash drops off of solo mobs and you don't have to split collection items up between the group. It adds up to be a significant amount of money in an hour or two of soloing. Unless I'm farming nameds my cash flow is significantly less when grouping with other people. Sure every now and then I'll get that that drop that sells for a lot of money but they can be few and far between.
Second, melees are not the only classes that can solo, in fact the best classes to solo according to most are the coercer, necro, conjuror, and fury.
So to answer the OP's question soloing is very viable in this game.
