Looks like a lot of people on the official forums were right. New expansion is Faydwer, and it looks like from the screenshots that theyre adding that tree city from EQ1 (you'll have to forgive me. I don't know the name, I didn't play EQ1). Looks really interesting from the screenshots and what they're adding.
Official Press Release:
New Additions Coming To The World Of Everquest®II
SAN DIEGO, CA May 3, 2006 Sony Online Entertainment LLC ( SOE ), a global leader in the online games industry, today announced details on its latest plans for EverQuest II, which include a new expansion pack featuring an all new playable race and an adventure pack introducing an Asian flair to the popular massively multiplayer online game. Echoes of Faydwer , the third expansion for EverQuest II, is expected to be available on or around November 14, both at retail and via digital distribution for a suggested retail price of $39.99. The Fallen Dynasty is the third adventure pack for EQII and will be available this June by digital download only for a suggested retail price of $7.99 or at no additional charge to Station Access subscribers of two months or longer."Our newest offerings to the EverQuest II product line offer great fun for EQII fans," said Laura Naviaux, senior brand manager, Sony Online Entertainment. " Echoes of Faydwer is a content-rich experience for both the seasoned EverQuest II player and the newbie alike, since the new content is accessible from the start. With The Fallen Dynasty, higher level veterans of EQII can explore a unique adventure and gain all-new weapons that they can bring into the rest of the game world."
Echoes of Faydwer is the third expansion pack for EverQuest II, and introduces a new playable race, The Fae. An enchanted race of winged creatures, the Fae dwell on the continent of Faydwer, in the arboreal city of Kelethin, the new starting city being added to this latest chapter in the EQII saga. Echoes of Faydwer includes over 350 new quests, a new selection of profession hats, cloaks, armor, and new horse mounts available to players of all levels. EQII players will encounter over 40 new types of creatures to face, more than 20 new zones and adventure areas, and will be able to compete against other players for new PvP (Player vs. Player) rewards, plus all-new items, equipment, spells and tradeskill recipes. The Achievement system introduced in the Kingdom of Sky expansion has been enhanced to include additional sub-class abilities, allowing players to further customize their characters' abilities.
Developed in conjunction with SOE's Taiwan studio, The Fallen Dynasty Adventure Pack promises to deliver the same downloadable story-rich content seen in the previously released The Bloodline Chronicles and The Splitpaw Saga , but this time with Asian influenced adventure zones, weapons, tradeskill rewards, as well as all new quests.
The Fallen Dynasty introduces EQII players to a mysterious city shrouded in secrets and once ruled by a powerful entity. The Whistling Fist, an ancient order of monks, guard its veiled past, but seek adventurers brave enough to explore the mysteries of this forgotten civilization.

and the Fae race sounds cool!
I LAUGH AT THE UGLY FACES OF SOE!
I thought EA Games were horrible with releasing new expansions instead of fixing the current game but then I haden't seen what SOE could do!
So we will still be forced to sit in this unpolished game with 100'ds of bugs? Why? Because they make expansions instead of fixing current things. Money money money money money! $OE!

playing eq2 and two worlds
I think the new expansion looks sweet from what I've seen so far. I'm looking forward to it.

It's a shame, I really enjoyed it at first, but it was so obvious the game was still in early beta when released that I got tired of paying to play beta.
Screw them and their money grubbing expansions. SWG is a good example of how SOE has no clue what to do with their games.
I can't wait to see the tree city. I think it's going to be pretty cool. The last two expansions have been fun and they said they were going to spend more time on this one. So, that equals awesome.
It's going to be fun with a new race and new starting city to put them in.
You see when you are ill informed and make a statement like this it makes you look

As of now anyone who plays EQ2 can easily tell you its one of the most polished mmorpg out there.
Does it have bugs?yes. So do any mmorpg. In short as someone who played EQ2 and WoW for over 1 year i can say EQ2 has as few bugs as WoW and considering it has much more updates thats an incredible performance.
I know you will do the classic defence of saying" hey i was talking about other SoE products like SWG".Well you are on a EQ2 forum and the topic is EQ2 so your ill informed statement is clearly directed for EQ2.Also thinking hard here all the bugs i ever encountered are cosmetic and most get fixed within weeks.
If you hate SoE ,thats your problem .But i suggest you spam the SWG forum for the woeful performance SoE has there.EQ2 has a much better performance.
As for the expansion .I think this is a direct result of SoE listening to us.First,we wanted no more levels till summer next year and this is done.We get more AA since AA is not from levelling but from exploring and discovery. And more importantly we get an EQ1 lore as we get a whole continent of the past to explore as compared to other 2 expansions.
I personally rather have too much content like EQ2 is giving us then litle content, and since unlike the ill informed above poster said .the new content are very stable .
I think no eta on this but seems it was hinted at fan faire that we are looking at a oct/nov period.Which is just fine as thats when i will build my new intel conroe with the dx10 g.card.

You're smoking crack. Polished? where do you get that load of BS???
The game was still beta when they released it and like idiots we all payed to play beta. The game is riddled with bugs (DOF for example, and Im sure more to come with the expansions...) has no originallity to it, bland and generic looking and has lowsy gameplay. And don't give me this "has more content" crap either---having 100 quests in the same zone (the majority being kill x mob y amount of times) is NOT QUEST MATERIAL, or killing mobs in order to get pieces of a journal! How freaking retarded is that??? How about quests that have you travelling and giving you more lore and actual STORY to the game, that's quest material. Their art dept sucks as well: it's all cut and paste crap with them.
Polished! ha!
That's the funniest fu**ng thing I've heard.
All bashing aside, I can't wait for the expansion. I think I
saw somewhere that it's coming out sometime in November. And compared to SWG this game is the most
complete game ever made! I try to not hold grudges when it comes to companies,
because like it or not every company is trying to make more money. So they
screwed over SWG I left, and now I'm playing EQ2. Same company, but as long as
I'm entertained I'm okay with it.

Dunno which game busting bugs you are talking about as i not seen them.I seen bugs but quite few and honestly if u expect a mmorpg to be bug free then might as well not play any at all.
If you have trouble finding the intresting quests and doing heritages then nothing i can do for you.
You hate the art thats fine many of us like it and our systems run it lag free.
Just not the game for you ,but no matter how you look at it ,its still one of the most polished mmorpg out there today.
EQ has 10+ expansions? Does it feel necessairly to have so many? I state how I felt about the situation, you stated how you felt about it.
Personally I think it's redicilous to have 3 expansions on the list after little more than a year's lifetime.
You might think much content could be added with patches instead but SOE's case has always been to release patches as expansions (at least that's how I feel about them).
Don't hate me if I say there could be alot of improvements with EQ2, instead of moving fast-forward adding new contents. [Bug] You have fallen through the ground and has been teleported to a safe area.
What happends when new content is released like this at such high speed in expansion forms? Well, alot more bugs, and before they start to go back and fix the old ones they gotta fix the new ones instead ... that makes life-time bugs a common sight.

As to content, just the amount of zones, dungeons and instances alone exceed games such as WoW.
If you want bland generic game play, check out WoW at level 60. I guess if you like Toon Town the game looks ok but the gameplay at that level definately is on the drooling coma inducing.
Cheers.
