Fortnite has been out for iOS devices since March 2018 and since then has generated over $455M through over 82.6M downloads. December 2018 was the iOS version's biggest month to date with Epic bringing home $69M, on average about $1.6M per day on iOS alone.

    Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

    Yeah 1.6M a day. We both may not give a shit about mobile, but you can bet all the AAA gaming companies are watching and wondering how to get a piece of that action. 



    What i do wonder is the percentage of that contributed per country. Wondering how much of that is coming from the more eastern ones

    Knocking mobile is short sighted.  Casual games have created millions of new players, people that never played games before.  And they are evolving into playing more and more complex games.  Most of us in the industry knew that.  But we had no clue there were so many of what we thought of as casual players that would play something so much more complex like Fortnite.  And the average playtimes for a mobile game, it's off the charts.

    It's inevitable that not too long from now mobile will be able deliver a pretty good mmo experience.   We have good reason to believe that players could handle the complexity of an mmo.  The definite trend is that players across platforms play together.  I think it's all moving in a direction that is good for mmo's. 

    The idea of using the massive numbers on mobile to drive a virtual world is not new.  The last studio I worked at this came up a lot.  There are all sorts of hybrid approaches you could take to blend mobile/PC/console gamers.  Not that anyone knows what will work.

    I think we are going to at the very least see more studios trying to make that work.  It's also interesting because the mobile scale is something that can get traditional investors involved.  The numbers are now interesting enough.

    Its very popular with the younger audience so ii imagine any kid with a phone on it has this and has mom and dad buy them stuff. My four year got excited because he saw a fortnite llama in walmart....i dont play fortnite. My kid has been infected.

    The more money these games make on mobile, the more it may hurt us PC gamers as these companies go wehre the money is.

    I mean, you really cant use Fortnite to justify your point.

    Fortnite on mobile, is Fortnite on PC. Its the same game. Fortnite mobile, isnt a mobile game. Its a PC game, optimized enough, that its able to run on toasters. There is a drastic difference.

    Diablo Immortal, is a MOBILE game. There is no PC version. Its not a well made game, optimized to work on low tier hardware. Its a mobile game, built up from the ground as a mobile experience.

    I mean, if they simply released "diablo 3" on mobile, there would of been very little backlash. But that isnt the case. Its a clear mobile game, made by asian mobile game dev, and its going to be heavy in MTs that effect gameplay, as all games like it do.

    I only have one child out of four that even plays games of any type online and that is my youngest (16). She and I have been playing games together since she was 6. Thankfully she hates mobile games and is only interested in PC/Console.

    She played Fortnite here awhile back since a couple of her friends played it and wanted her to play it with them. She was on discord with them and I was listening in and watching while they were playing. After about an hour, one of her friends asked her if she thought it was fun and she said, "if you think using only two brain cells is fun, then this game is a blast!" I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Needless to say, she didn't like it.

    "us PC gamers"... really?  You may be surprised to learn I game on both mobile and PC, sometimes interchangeably.
    PC Gaming is not what people seem to think it is. It is really a long chain of different platforms:

    DOS Gamers
    Windows Gamers
    Web Gamers
    Laptop Gamers
    VR Gamers

    These were all really separate platforms, each having their own rush to be filled by new games. Mobile is only really recognized as being different because it has not yet supported the same external interfaces display/keyboard/mouse, etc. The same can be said of consoles (current consoles are just specialized PC hardware) being recognized differently, mostly because of the physical interface (joystick/controller).

    Mobile hardware has matured, and the benefits of  upgrades have peaked. I would expect to start seeing more consolidation of the mobile products into what has been traditionally PC space. The same applies to consoles (which really should have done this in the last generation).

    I have to disagree. Android is fully capable of external peripheral devices. Just like a laptop has a docking station, android do the same thing. You can dock your mobile and connect to a monitor, keyboard/mouse and controller. See nvidia shield and other similar devices. There are docking stations for mobile phones but only a few brands supports MHL miracast etc

    I don't know about the mobile version but Fortnite matches you with the platforms used by all members of your squad/team. If they also filter peripherals then that's even better. All third party shooters should do this and be cross platform.
