what if atari goes chp 7?

gamespot.com have a couple of articles talking about how poorly atari is doing lately.  atari is doing have very bad financial woes, they are selling two studios, and have a chance of being kicked off nasdaq, if they dont improve within four months.  if things dont improve atari, they could offer to sell the whole company to someone.  if they do sell that means the rights they do have with hasbro with dungeons and dragons will go with it.

im hoping atari sells to bioware. if not just sell the license of dungeons and dragons.  giving a new owner of the license could refreshen the whole brand name of dungeons and dragons i think.  atari have poor management and doesnt seem to give alot of support to their games they develop.

DDO future could be different if it the ownership went to someone else.

Atari didn't develop the game.  Turbine did.  Atari outsourced the development of DDO to Turbine.  So no, I don't think changing the ownership would do much unless Turbine was canned as well and they handed both the license and the development over to BioWare...

And, to be honest, I'm not entirely sure BioWare would take DDO... they might make a NEW D&D MMO but I doubt very seriously they'd take someone else's game and try to re-work it.  Just my opinion though, I could be wrong.

And if Atari is in that much danger players of DDO should be very concerned that it may shut down.  That means two companies (both Turbine AND Atari) desperately need this game to produce profits or they're going to cut and run fast.  Turbine already dumped AC2 because it was un-profitable... I don't see them keeping DDO running if it's a financial drain on them.  And I don't see Atari keeping it on life support either.

Atari is just the publisher of DDO. The forked over the development cash and get the money from box sells and a cut of the subscriptions. WotC licensed their IP to Atari for the game. So if Atari sinks, that might actually help Turbine because that's one less person to pay back their capital. Although, another publisher would just step up - just like how SOE grabbed Matrix Online.
