    Nice Article tho!

But it says inside; "but in Anthem, you’ll have to just recraft (if possible) or keep hunting manually for the perfect version of whatever it is you’re looking for."

And tbh, isn't that the Grind we all look for? What hooks us and make us stay in the Game? As in every other Game as well? I like that, it gives me the Grind/the replayability i "need/i look for". To get that one good roll which i want/i need. If Anthem does that right, i'm good.

So....i hope that the Demo will show us what is going on in Anthem. Looking forward to it.

I want to hunt for the good rolls, too! But there are a bunch of layers of RNG here. First you need to find the item, then it needs to roll four Inscriptions you want, and then those Inscriptions need to have the values you want. And keep in mind these items can drop anywhere in the game. So you can't just go farm one boss over and over to focus on finding that god roll for a particular item.

Given all of those things, it's my opinion that there should be some bad luck protection (some form of rerolling) built into the game. This is pretty consistent with what other games have been doing after learning this lesson the hard way. My hope is that BioWare reverses course on this before launch so that it doesn't have to do it reactively in response to players quitting in frustration.

Maybe you disagree and that's OK, too. But that's my position.

    Hey Mike :)

Don't get me wrong here, i hear you loud and very clear :) !!
I am with you on that point. We all loved the Diablo Horradrim Cube or not? ;)
So, getting that Item and then "forge it to our need".

But then, the Game is "new", which ofc doesn't mean that they could have the option straight away from Day 1. I would love to see that, but i am good with the "option" to grind for that Item in the beginning, if you know what i mean. And then, some (1,2,3 ?!) Month down the road i would love to see a patch which brings exactly that option you mentioned in the article or perhaps something in a different way :)

I would love to see a strong foundation laid for Anthem and then build on that. Let's see if they can deliver that to us.

I said this in another post and will repeat it here. Strange that a company known for good story telling isn't focusing on the story in these demos. All I see is flying and fighting missions. One streamer did talk a little about lore and the storyline but he wasn't excited about it.

Im only guessing here but do you think its possible that the developer known for story wants you to actually play the story and not watch Youtube clips of it a month in advance from a beta demo?

I'm just thinking games tend to showcase what they are most proud of. All I'm getting to see so far what the armor can do, how you can fly across a beautiful landscape, and how combat and combos work. But I admit I could be wrong and the story could be a great one.

I'm somewhat apathetic as well. The recent events in triple A development have shown that any pre-release footage means absolutely nothing given the immense spin and embellishment put on everything.
That alongside the more and more dodgy and greedy releases and mechanics in games nowadays really make me wonder not if, but how this particular game will be greedily monetized ontop of its price tag.

Perhaps there already is information out there, but at the very least I'm anticipating a full price title with preorder bonuses, early access preorder special, and one or two special editions, with microtransactions coming either at launch or once the main review wave has come and gone, only whether they will be the cosmetic type or the p2w type remains to be seen.
That and how much the game will be tailored around these additional purchases, which, given its a looter/shooter, might be quite easy to do in an overwhelming fashion.

There is, of course, the possibility that it will become this amazing new title that does lots of things right and marks a departure from triple A overmonetization, but given EA is backing this one, I highly doubt that they would have a change of heart. Even with bad press and an outcry, RMTs are simply too big of a profit factor to not dip in with both hands for these companies, and shareholders wouldn't tolerate them making one cent less than they possibly could.
The problem with GaaS is even post release holds little to no guarantees. A year later they can change the business model or the gameplay and you're screwed if you don't like. See Bungie and ZoS for examples.
True, and like you so enjoy pointing out ( ;) ), that danger existed with sub MMORPGs, evidenced by things like WoW private servers.

Even so, I think it's a problem inherent to software.  Where do we balance consumers getting to keep what they were sold as a "purchase" and developers getting to expand and update game mechanics?

I read lots of comments about story and it seems people are expecting or hoping for the good stories we got with the first couple DA games and the ME trilogy. While there will be story, it won't be anything deep and dialog choices will be binary.

Bioware has said, this is a mp shooter first and foremost. given their performance with the last couple of releases, I wouldn't expect much in terms of story.

This will be nothing more than another gear treadmill game and for those who like that kind of thing, it will probably be a pretty good game.

they've mentioned that you can find blueprints to craft items as some sort of bad luck protection.
not sure how it'll work but it's something i guess. will probably add re rolls later if enough people ask for it.
Not all items are craftable, though.

Is it a fact that you won't be able to see what items you get during a mission ? Instead you'll get boxes / containers which you'll only be able to open once you're back to base.

    Can anyone confirm this ?

Are they doing the whole WoW style loot with shoes that make your gun do more damage and guns that make you smarter thing? If so, lame.
I don't think this game will be deep enough for me. And space suits/power armour are about as interesting as playing a human office worker to me at this point.
On thing game designers need to remember is that flying is cool, but if everyone can fly it's just normal.
With everyone super, no one will be.

I know you can see the loot you get at the end of a Stronghold (Dungeon), but you may need to go back to Fort Tarsis for stuff that drops in the world.

This is how it looks after you do a Stronghold. (Skip to 31:48 if the timestamp doesn't work)

When you pick something up it will say "Uncommon Item" or "Rare Item" etc until you identify it.

I am excited but not apprehensive as I have no intention of playing until the reviews are out and it has a month or two to settle in.

Actually I do have one concern, what happens to what remains of the concept of Bioware if this does not make a kings ransom for EA? Presumably EA will use that as evidence that Bioware type games do not sell, even though this is about as far removed from a Bioware game as you can get.

Absolutely, that's how i feel about games for the last few years.

I haven't looked much into anthem however it just sceams warframe to me.

On the note of being older, i've spent years talking trash about RuneScape everytime my friends brought the name up for some reason, and for the past 4 days i've found my self enjoying runescape more than i should. I Guess Im really getting old

    Couldn't agree more.

Ugh! And Fortnite, what garbage. Constant jumping around, wall spamming trash of a game for simpletons.

Fortnite Save the World, now that is fun.

I feel everyone's apprehension. I want this game to be good. I am sure EA will mess it up somehow.

It's not EA I would be worried about. I don't think EA really had anything to do with how Andromeda turned out. That was all Biowares doing. Their last couple of releases have all been on Bioware as far as I'm concerned.

At this point I'm hopeful... But until I can actually play the game, and see how its combat system works out, I'm going to reserve judgement.

If Bungle had not made as many mistakes as they have, I'd stay with Destiny 2, but they have, so I'm willing to give Anthem a try, in spite of my loathing for EA.

It's because we're "older" and definitely not the target audience. We just have to adapt, find another hobby, or play old games and indy nostalgia throwbacks.
