Dofus is predicting that they will soon reach the 1,000,000 subscriber mark. As such, they have added a 5th game server:
DOFUS: More and more players for more and more fun!
A new Dofus game server has been set up on April 25, 2006 in order to host an increasing number of players.
The MMORPG DOFUS was counting 900,000 players on 04/05/06. At a rate of 5,000 new players daily, the symbolic number of a million registered players will soon be reached. To face such crowds, a 5th game server has been added on April 25. Its already hosting numerous connections with peaks counting more than 3,000 players connected simultaneously. This very same day, Ankama was proposing a new version of DOFUS, not only including new cards, new monsters, new quests and new items but also new pets for newly subscribed players, as well as items from gears for the long-time subscribers. Its such a success that the studio is going to develop this rewarding system for the most loyal players of DOFUS. All these results allow us to be optimistic regarding the future release of the long awaited extension The Dragoturkey Riders scheduled for July 2006 which will include the first mounts and the connected breeding professions. Plus, in September 2006, Ankama will be glad to inform you the launching of German, Spanish and Portuguese versions of DOFUS and Dofus-Arena. |

Sounds like they want others to think that is impressive. Well do you?
Not me. One million subscriptions could mean anything. Maybe 1m people have created an account over the games entire life and 3k actually play. Who knows.
The game is free to download and play without a subscription.
But if there are 5000 players each day making new accounts why only around 3000 play at once?
(Oh let me guess: mule accounts that sell stuff becuase there is still no auction-house & only 6 players per map may open a shop).
Registered player numbers dont mean much but paying accounts do (just look at SWG).
(P.S I hate Ankamas homemade forum software which barely has more features than a bbs D.S)
One thing with this game is the paying players often have multiple accounts to help themselves in battles or to have a merchant set-up, some may even have six or more. Then from my experience with the game it recycles people a lot. Quite often someone comes in, plays for a month or more then quits when they are so utterly bogged down in the never ending chain of grinds this game has to add "difficulty." Then any game with a free area/option always has many people trying it simply because it's free, not because it interests them, then often leave soon after.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
