Is was playing ATLAS for many hours and I had fun. Was playing on a PVE Server. Though the first 2 days had been rough, the devs handled the problems quite well, by patching with a high frequency. The game, compared to its contents is rather cheap imho.

I would really love to know when the OP played the game, as this review sounds like it was written a month ago.
I play Atlas every day, I've got a small claim on an island where me and my buddy have been building. We've got a Schooner decked out in cannons for taking on Ships of the Damned and a Brig for resource runs and a Galleon currently under construction. I tamed an elephant, a bear, 2 pigs and 2 sheep along with countless monkeys that have each unfortunately fallen in battle. We are having an absolute blast playing it.
I simply don't and haven't had the terrible experiences that people like the OP constantly go on about. I have a decent rig, i7 and a 1080ti and play games at 2560x1440. I don't have performance issues, being at or above 60fps at almost all times. I don't have game crashes or lag issues.
Right now we are working on gathering resources for the Galleon build, collecting treasure maps, leveling up, farming and building up our base. We've gone to the Fountain of Youth and rejuvenated our characters for the permenant buff.
I've got tons of awesome memories just from our short time with the game so far, the best being losing our first Schooner to a SOTD and us having to abandon ship with nothing but our pets monkey and chicken. As we swan away from the wreckage and sharks began to circle. Just then a rainbow painted Brig sailed past and we clung to it's emergency ladder until the captain got us near an island that we could swim to. We never did make it home though and lost a very brave monkey and chicken to an Alpha Pig.
People can hate on the game all they want, it's grabbed us in a way that most other games simply fail to do.
I think the game could be great. I have always said if it was just an ARK mod I would be happy for the price. I would have really liked the game they portrayed it to be more. I would take either but was disappointed in how it was presented.
I liked ARK but the futuristic Dino theme wasn't for me. This game is but I will give it some time. I do keep seeing the same argument about servers etc. I was glad to read your fresh take. My system would struggle a bit but I found ARK quite playable on medium before getting a new GPU. Maybe in a few months.

They definitely failed at giving people a realistic expectation of what they would be doing with a new character. Chopping trees and grass wasn't in any trailer I saw, it should have been since the game was quite obviously built on ARK.
I really hope that people that have negative feelings about the game get a chance to play it again in the future, as far as I'm concerned the devs have done a great job responding to the issues and making improvements.

Based on this dev's history when do you think, 2021 or 2022 perhaps?
Well, they said that their plan was 2yrs in EA. I would guess 2022 for "retail launch" is about right if they are actually committed to the game.

Pretty sharp example of how the playing field is generally skewed towards the companies' interests in maximizing profits instead of the consumers' interests in having an accurate idea of what they're purchasing.

As one of the "gullible folks" I have to wonder.. what is it that you think I need to figure out?
I personally love the "survival/crafting/building" genre that has emerged over the last 5-6 yrs. I've spent 2300hrs in Rust, 1000 in Ark, and Hundreds each in smaller games like 7 days 2 die, Empyrion, Life is Feudal and many others. Almost all of these games I bought for 20$. I've met dozens of friends and had countless good times while playing these games.
I don't expect AAA quality, flawless games from these companies. I expect to have fun gamplay experiences that I can't get from other types of games, and I get that in spades.

Here's the large McAwesome you ordered sir. If I could I would put another in your bag, but company policy.
The only thing is, that burger on the right STILL looks way better than what you actually get from McDumbalds (AND they probably f#$%ed the order up too).

I think you fit into the anomaly category. One who actually likes what they purchased. But then again there were people who enjoyed Guise of The Wolf which Total Biscuit tore to pieces in one of his "WTF is" videos and many other who did buy were disappointed. So there is a fan for everything, but I wouldn't say you were the majority, vocal minority maybe.

it seems like the argument is always. . you know this so just accept it. I disagree. It should always be fought. I know what those burgers are like so I can buy one based on that. With games. . or say a larger purchase you sometimes get one shot and can't refund or return once you actually see it enough to know.
I have this theory that "early access" means "game is not ready for launch". If you buy the game anyway and discover that it wasn't ready for launch, well, they warned you. If you don't like that, then don't buy games in early access.
Yes it is! The studios know that they can make some money off of the game even if it falls flat on it's face, and in the world of business today to make some money is better then not making any at any cost!
The old adage--- Plead ignorance and ask for forgiveness later!!
Those who bought the Collector's Edition of SWTOR had 7 days of early access before everyone else at launch. Early access meant just that, access to a launched game early.
Nowadays early access means another development phase. Another beta.
Get instant access and start playing; get involved with this game as it develops.
Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development.
Hard to see how anyone can complain about any problems if they can read.
Not complete...may or may not change... C'mon people...stop being idiots...please.
Alpha...not a complete game...Beta..same, Early access, definitely not a complete ready game.

i tried this again yesterday on a unofficial server was still an ok experience but it is not an mmo at all is just another small server survival game with some extra content, is not good is not bad but also is not what it was sold as. people expected an mmo and got whatever they want to call this. majority of people have left so servers feel empty already. they have fixed alot of the bugs but arc survival is just so much a better game so why play atlas at all when there is already something alot more fun to play . was hoping this would fill in 6 mths or so but just cant play it as is not fun.
By now we should know that every aspect of the way games are developed, funded, released and then charge players has been abused. So is it any wonder EA has been abused? This is why I questioned RD2 releasing a game and saying the multiplayer would come later, that release strategy is just asking for abuse by another company.
One of the latest ones we are getting is releasing a DLC as a new game not just in MMOish games this is happening in solo games as well. Like I have said many times before as I type somebody somewhere in the world is thinking of ways to fleece players. Let the buyer beware!
