What Two Mmorpgs Would You Pit Against One Another?

AmatheAmathe Member LegendaryPosts: 7,630
Pick a good mmorpg (past or present), then a bad one. Imagine they compete in a death match. Who wins (and maybe why)?

I pick City of Heroes versus Warhammer Online. CoH wins with detailed character customization and a lack of massive overhype.

Your move. :)

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

All Points Builtin (APB) vs. Auto Assault (AA)

Winner AA because well I don't know, but I'm sure it's better than APB ever was.

SWG vs WildStar.  SWG had a lot of ground breaking ideas that were pretty well organized while WildStar's ideas were all over the place.

Can I see an example situation in which the bad MMO would win?  Are there any?

Personally I think it's more interesting to put two MMOs against each other and imagine they have a child MMO that's the best mix of the two, what would the child be like?
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

    ESO vs GW2 (RvR)
ESO wins with 1 big map a better fast travel system and no Pirateship meta.

    Next round: ESO vs DAOC
No need to tell who will win this

    1997 Meridian 59 'til 2019 ESO

    EQ 1 vs GW2

EQ 1 loses because everyone wants to see their plate armored toon do flips and rolls and be all acrobatic :)

    OR

    EQ 1 vs ESO
EQ 1 loses because "who cares about lore?"

    [edit]
PS: These fights were brought for @sunandshadow

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Thank you :)  I totally agree with number one there, my favorite 3D games are almost always the ones where I can both wear cool armor and do ninja parkour. :D

Personally I like lore, sometimes love it, but a lot depends on the flavor and presentation and people have such wildly different tastes in those...

RF Online against Warhammer Online or Anthem lol

Lineage 2 Classic vs BLESS. Winner is obviously Lineage because of solid MMORPG mechanics (PVP, PVE, variety of classes and the synergy between them).

My lore comment was a dig at how ESO messed with the lore of The Elder Scrolls, even though they "said" they had people to keep it straight. The faction groupings make no sense, lore-wise. The races also seemed to lose a lot of their own identities in the process.

    Great thread idea!

LotRO versus BDO, Lotro wins by a "timed out" as BDO cannot explain its economics system to the referee within the one day limit.

Warhammer Online vs City of Heroes. WAR wins hands down. Beautiful world, great lore, fun and well designed classes, great RvR, introduced the Tome of Knowledge which was immediately copied by every AAA MMO, and tons more. CoH is a potato in comparison.
