I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on this game... but after being in a slump between MMORPGs (I got bored with WoW end game, Guild Wars is still remaining unappealing, along with Everquest 2 and Final Fantasy XI)... I am looking for a good game to play, preferably a MMORPG.
I know the community is small, but I am betting it should grow in a short period of time... I was just wondering what everyone's overall opinions of this are. I'd like them mainly from people who have played it for a while now (because I heard it was great fun at first then very boring afterwords...), although any opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance... this looks like a good game, but the low reviews are making me think I should look elsewhere...

It seems most of the players love it. I've posted why I love this game quite a bit on this forum.
As for the low reviews - AA is actually scoring on par with EQ2 and FFXI. Gamespot, IGN, Gamespy, GameDaily, and Yahoo! Games all scored it either the same or slightly below those other games.
It's a new game, and as such, it has some of the launch problems seen in other MMORPGs. I'd say it's launch is very comprable to City of Heroes: it's stable, there's no lag, and it's fun as hell to play out of the gate, but they need to work on adding in some additional features before it will feel truly "finished." Almost all of the reviews for the game have mentioned how much fun it is and how addictive it is. The primary faults have been in the grouping system (which is being beefed up in the next patch), the lack of an auction house and in-game e-mail (which is the dev's #1 priority and will be coming in either the next patch or shortly thereafter), and the small community.
I don't know... there's plenty of stuff out there that's postive - glowing, even - for this game. I guess it just comes down to what YOU want to play. Does an Auto Duel type MMORPG set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with action-oriented gameplay appeal to you? If not, then this game probably isn't for you. If so, then get a copy and get your ass online, toot sweet!

Actually the reviews are not bad that i seen.I seen a few poor reviews but one of them was made by a guy who works for a pc magazine here in the uk and stupidly admitted his past experience with mmorpg was NWN and diablo 2,when he gave EQ2 a bad review and actually got caught commenting about some bad features in the game which did NOT exist in the game.
Post was deleted 1 day later when he got massive flames for not even been able to tell the difference between a mmorpg and a online RPG.
Yet this same chap still gets to review mmorpg on a major pc magazine!!!!!I since stopped buying the magazine and now read another one with a guy called Hill who actually is a mmorpg player.
So want a good review?Talk to old timer mmorpg players. They are a hard crowd to please and if you get a nod from them ,its usually at least worth the $50.

I've been jaded bad by the dirge of awful MMOs of late(*cough*DDO especially*cough*) and AA is just a good game. "Nuff said, its fun as hell.
See you in the wastelands!
- If you like blood and lots of it, AA is for you.
- If you like blowing every thing from roaches (yes roaches) to buildings up, AA is for you.
- If you like building completely unique characters that are different from every other character in game, then AA is for you.
- If you can handle missions that are generally the same as all MMO's out right now, AA is for you.
- If you like fast pace action that is as continuous as you want it to be then, AA is for you.
- If you really get into crafting and are looking for crafting that is deep and feels more like you are the one doing the work, AA is absolutely for you.
- If you get into story lines and the reasons why you are being sent to do whatever, you are going to really enjoy AA. Mutants have the best stories IMO but all the content is so very well written it makes it really easy to relate to the NPC characters you are helping.
- If you can deal with playing a game that has a small population (right now) and you do not mind being part of a community that is just getting started, AA is for you.
- If you are ok with the game just being released and having bugs, then AA is for you.
- If you have an open mind and are willing to give the game more than 10 levels of playtime before making a judgement call on it, you will likely find that AA suits every play style out there more so than some give it credit for.
- If anyone has told you the game sucks and is boring after 2 hours, feel free to run them over in your car because they really have no idea what they are talking about and probably spent the 2 hours they were in game in the tutorial not reading anything that popped up in front of them explaining what was going on.
Few things I don't like,
- The sound problems I am having. I have to say though the interface for audio in the game has so many options as does my sound card so this very well could be a "me" problem not the game but the sound will cut out on me and then all I hear is my Front Weapon or Turret. Drives me nuts, and I do think the sounds should be louder especially on the car.
- The skill/power tray. Only one is visible which kind of sucks. I need at least 3 so I hope they will give us the option.
- More in town stuff to do.
- More options in character creation. I openly admit CoX spoiled me rotten there.
All in all I give the game a 9.5 out of 10. It includes all the things I enjoy the most in every other game I have played/tried with a few area's needing some oomph!

It's definitely fun, plays well into a gamer's destructive urges. After a week and a half of play, however, I find I'm already growing bored with it. The feeling of repetition set in way faster than it did for CoH/CoV. I've grouped only once, and that was to gather resources in an area with a guy already doing the same. I've crafted some, that was ok, but I find I'm spending more and more time trying to find the exact level of broken items I need to level a skill, and that whole aspect is falling quickly by the wayside.
Initially, after having crafting skills ding up a point in level which each crafting, I thought we'd have a system wonderfully devoid of drudgery. I thought for once crafting leveling would be easy to keep pace with your adventure leveling. Of course I was wrong, it started to feel more like work than anything else, both in trying to always shop for just the exact right broken item with your level range, and long periods of trying to get the rarer components with this game's version of "harvesting"- that is, to blast everything, and scoop up what appears on the ground. Although certainly more entertaing than most game's "harvesting", it can grow frustrating as certain components are tougher to acquire, and thusly slow your progress through no fault of your own effort or desire.
I will admit one thing here, as an aside, I tend to have very little patience with game's crafting systems. I find them to generally be tedious, and a dull time-sink built inside an otherwise entertaining time-sink, and generally completely avoided with the game's loot or treasure drop code. Only time I was a succesful crafter in a game was in SWG as a master weaponsmith, and it took me the better part of a year to hit master because I didn't use third-party programs to do all my grinding for me (yes, I did it all by hand, during my spare time). Perhaps this is all why I had initial hopes for Auto Assualt's system.
It's all moot now, however. I very seriously doubt I will play beyond the included month of time. I bought the game on a whim, to tell the truth: I went to the store to buy a new time card for CoV, and saw AA sitting on the shelf beside it. I thought it'd be a nice diversion until Issue 7 is finally pushed for CoX.
It is fun, for what it is. A minor diversion for me. Lack of reason to group would be my biggest complaint. You, and everyone else, are going too fast to often bother, or even think of it. Needing healing/protection/whatever from a friend is virtually negated by there being no death-penalty. They advertised it as being a fast, fast, fast paced game. And it is. Perhaps a little too fast.
The only problem with the game is that mutch like an arcade game i grew tired of it after some time. Mostly because its very repetative, casual play will make it last longer.
Well, I bought the game yesterday and have logged 12 hours in my character so far... and I must say I love this game so far. While this may just be only because it's a new experience for me, the positive far outweighs the negative so far. The missions are great (there are tons!), graphics are good, combat is very fun and intense, and the immense customization of cars is great!
I have no real negatives with this game so far, except maybe for the low population servers... although it's good not having to camp anything, so I really have no negatives so far...
Thanks for all your opinions everyone! They were very influential in my decision to finally purchase this game... for once I'm glad I didn't follow the reviews of gaming sites. Hopefully this fun factor will continue on for a long time!
I think when WOW first came out the rating was in the mid 9's. It just finally came down to where it should be.
Quote:
I love the game, i love it.....Ive played Wow since release, i played EQ for 5 years i played eq2 for 5 months, guildwars for since release, and quite itabout 1 month ago, and to me, none of these games can even come close to the enjoyment i get out of Auto Assault....AA got 8.3 and only been out a few weeks, WoW got 8.2 in ratings

Like MizBHaven i had some problem with the sound but since it was still in beta it was no big deal for me.
It's a win-win situation.
Even if you don't stick with the MMO or feel it's "finished" yet, you get free cards for the TCG which is the best TCG out there and an excellent game of its own merits.
