I really enjoyed vanilla wow adn thought it was alot of fun, but after a couple of years the company started getting really cocky. They bragged constantly how they had milions of players and how they were making so much money. They showed no humility and seemed to forget their roots, which was the quality of their games.
Um, it's not the guys at the top that have all the power. All those little minions that work below them do. If they didn't like the direction the game/company was headed, they could have left. Some people did, those that remained liked the fact that they had a cushy job for far more time than anyone else could find in the same industry.
Those people you thought had a passion about making a good game were only interested in job security. The people who had a passion already left. You act as if everyone was a blind fool as to what was going on around them. They new exactly what was going on. They chose to ignore it.
The company is what it is today because that is what their employees let it become. This is the same Blizzard it has always been. You just chose to see it with rose colored glasses.
Working at Blizzard is still a very good resume booster. That's why they started, they stayed because of things like: mortgages, new family, and the fact it's not guaranteed you'll land another job that pays.
FYI: I hate my job. I keep working 'here' because it pays the bills. I can't afford to move to an area that's hiring for my job skill. I'm stuck. I came here thinking I would have a fun environment...what I found was an inept jackass of boss, stagnant pay, oh...and more and more work because the said jackass boss doesn't want to hire enough staff. Who here can relate? - BTW: I'm not working at Blizzard. Just another American corporation.
Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall.
I never said the CFO shouldn't be paid a seven figure salary. What I did say is that no CFO is worth an eight figure signing bonus, maybe mid to high five figure if the person is experienced. Besides, Blizzard isn't a private company, ActivisionBlizzard is public.
...private because you won't have a board assigning you a CFO.
Once you get a CFO of qual experience to work for similar sized company and you will be paying him what you find "worthy", you can start talking about how Blizzard CFO isn't worth that money...until then...
Most corporations arent making billion dollar revenues. Once you start making billion dollar revenues, 15 million dollars is actually pocket change.
If you had a lemonade stand that made revenue of $5,000, the equivalent salary of a potential CFO to be in the same ratio as the billion dollar revenue would be between $1 to $30.
Now multiply your business to revenue of 5 million, the same ratio wouls be 1k to 30k, now 5 billion, the ratio becomes 1M to 30M.
See, it is pocket change at the end.
There is average salary of CFO then there is a CFO salary of a billion dollar business. It's like 50th percentile 99.999999%

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time they've had to let hundreds of people go, and I'd be very surprised if it's the last. Their direction changed, and those near 800 people didn't fit the new plan. Super sad, but this is nothing new for ActiBlizz.
@SBFord they were a reference to the image he used which is a warhammer 40k based image. It was obviously that. Panzy is a common insult used by orks and wordbearers in the 40k universe. It was not an attack it was banter based on common interest, please get some context before going full fun police.
Expect to see a Battle Royale mode or game (think HotS, where franchise characters are used). And probably a more advanced 'out of game' mini game for WoW.
...also, I suspect the WoW Store will start to see an influx of new mounts, battle pets, transmogs, and perhaps even character appearances (ie new hairstyles and faces). Hell, with the new character modeling, we might even see them take a page from FF14 and put emotes in the store.
Oh they have already been going that route full tilt for quite some time.I was thoroughly disgusted when they decided to sell new portraits for classes in Hearthstone,i was like wtf,you offer players NOTHING but turn around and charge for a simple picture?
Blizzard doesn't "get it",your making MILLIONS selling virtual pixels.Once your a success and your gimmicks work, how can you possibly screw that up,it's PIXELS,nothing is real life material or real life objects, your profit margin should be through the roof.
Ok so if ANY of those big shots sitting in their high chairs have a single cell of intelligence, they look at how easy they got it and SHOULD be thinking,ok you know let's give back to the community that allows us to have it so good.
NOPE,their greed instead thought,ok we can sell anything we put out there so let's make cheaper games, put in less effort and operate cash shops.GREED that is all it is,if you want to keep the easy pixel money train going, simply put some effort into your work and people will keep sending you money.
IMO ..they simply have a pile of dumbasses at the top that have no clue about "partnership"it's called give and take not just take.

I have to ask you:
1) Do you understand what median is?
2) Do you understand that often cited 15M figure isn't a salary?
