The Apex Legends Reddit has a beefy update from the development team that, among other things, informs the community that over 16,000 players have been identified and banned for cheating. Considering the game's infancy, this is a big deal and showcases the commitment of the team to ensuring the game stays cheat-free. The letter also deals with the frustration many have felt with game crashes. To address this, devs have a plan to "improve stability, performance and QoL".

I'm still surprised that it remained so high in viewership in twitch.tv. Perhaps the bander between the three players is more interesting than the solo commentary from the other games?

Who are these 16k players who feel the need to cheat (ruin their own experience) in a newly released game? Or is this a very broad definition of "cheat" (what were the cheaters doing) ? Maybe I just don't understand the mentality of BR players, shrug .

It's a F2P game. Having people cheating with throwaway accounts is something to be expected.

cheaters are cheaters, you don't need to understand em.
they suck, which is obviously why they cheat.

trolls who basically need cheats so they actually can win a game. then mb show off with "their deeds" in school or whatnot.

All games with PVP in it (MMO's, shooters, etc) will have people trying to cheat by using aimbots, wallhacks, speedhacks, etc.

This was terrible in The Division 1 on PC for example and why I played it on PS4 instead.

I was called a cheat many times in Call of Duty 1/2...but to actually cheat is retarded. Yes I was that good.

This is why you do testing before a launch. I love this game but it does have it's issues that could have been found out with a proper test.

F2P + PVP + Client Side Shot calculation will always lead to large amount of cheaters.
Also lvl and progression means nothing, skill and character development wise, so if you are banned you can start over within minutes.

As for why they do it, the most of them are doing it because they are frustrated for various reasons.
This leads to the same old story " if I don't have fun, others shouldn't either ". And frustrated people are happy only when they make others feel unhappy.

I had read somewhere that some people were being paid to play this on Twitch &/or YouTube but no idea how accurate that is. The game is great amounts of fun though & this is my first Battle Royale (BR) I've played for over a week. I've been playing it off & on since it's second day. I'll play 5-10 games at a time then give it a day. Only been part of a winning squad once so far but I'm very happy with that given my terrible aim lol. I definitely don't understand, not fluent at all, with all the controls yet. I wish the training area allowed more use of the character's abilities before being pushed into the arena & then learn & allow us to use different heroes too ... then again it may allow this I just haven't figured it out yet. I like exploring because I think that map, King's Canyon, is amazingly well done, but exploring isn't really the point of BR. I'm not surprised there has already been cheating, I thought I had seen/experienced it a few times in game, but it isn't like I can do anything about it. I could definitely see cheating or a few other things though ruining this game fast. No one wants to compete nor invest money into a game to be beaten by cheaters.

That “large amount” is .00064% of their 25 mill player base....
Kudos to them for doing something even though the chances of playing against a cheater are slim.
