The latest newsletter is out for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. In it, readers are informed about what the team has most recently been working away on. In January, for instance, animations have gone under the microscope as well as the foundational phases for the Faerthale zone, though not much will be revealed...yet. In addition, there is a lengthy look at the foundation of the game world itself and a Q&A with Brad McQuaid.

Not a long wait until Classic. It will fill the time before Pantheon and CU are released. I'm still quite positive about the future of older styled mmorpgs.
There is growing void in the market place for it and interest of things both old and new have piqued due to the drama of venture capital based developers. It's been clear to me for a very long time that a real social mmorpg can't succeed with the current disconnect with the community due to the 100% devotion to investors and the stock market.
The details of the atmosphere system are intriguing. I see it enhancing the mood and unique feel of an area extremely well. Buried within the concept is content gating. I hope that isn't too obvious in game, but these are the important attempts required with MMORPGs at diverse content gating instead of just using vertical gear gating.
It's one of my major complaints about Classic Wow and the direction it head in later expansions. Classic wow already has some different gating mechanics, but Blizzard seemed to have abandoned them in favor of pure vertical progression. It is a very core decisions that ruined the original concept of Wow. If Classic becomes a success (and I worry about what Blizzard considers a success these says, because Activision ONLY sees success through projected quarterly reports meeting expectations) I hope Blizzard learns that Wow could have gone in a totally different direction. A direction that didn't lead them to fall so low as they and Wow is now.

That's your right. I always suggest waiting to judge the product for it's own merit however.
The good news with this project is that Brad is surrounded by many highly competent people and the it's been stressed that his position is highly compartmental. He isn't in charge of the budget. He basically is the overarching design lead (and not even the specifics) of the game itself and very little to do with running the project as a business.
I believe Brad's best assets are being put to use, while his worst are are mitigated. Until I see or hear otherwise, I remain positive.

That's actually the reason why I want to play it. Same goes for CU and MJ.
No disrespect for your decision though.

It'll just be like the rest of gaming right now, same old new skin.
I can't believe how gamer's will keep buying every new game that comes out and do the exact same things they were doing in the last game they played.Like all those jumping around from Destiny to the Division to Anthem, just pew pew npc's and get loot, nothing innovative what soever.
What do people think is going to put Pantheon over the top, like name me one system it is going to do better?Crafting?Combat?Discovery?Immersion?try and think of one,i can't think of anything.
A 6/6/4/7/6/4/6 still comes out to a very average game,i do not see a single system worthy of a 8/10 rating.
Mind you we..I still have to see the released product.
How about this one,do you think we will get even the smallest improvement like removing yellow markers over npc heads? How about hand holding,do you think they will lean towards immersion or simply a linear hand holding game of progression, move from Dungeon A to Dungeon B based on gear scores?
Because i am not one to stand there the first minute i login all starry eyed,i start analyzing the game design right away and for that reason,i feel stronger that i likely see frustration in design in the very first couple minutes.

As to Alpha, all of us Pantheon folks keep saying to hang on... we're all working hard, and we have great people, but we are a small, though scrappy team. Pre-Alpha was a blast and it gave us all the information and impetus needed to move forward.
I solemnly swear that when we are ready to move to Alpha, we'll make it a LOUD announcement! There may be a Dwarf banging pots and pans together - you're bound to hear it.

I imagine a grumpy old man each and every time you post. This of course is just my guess work. But back on topic, I am excited each and every time I see an update. It is going to be a while and I am in it for the long haul. I like the idea of having something to look forward to.
