How did y'all get into CoV?

SobaManSobaMan Member Posts: 384

I'm playing on the trial at the moment, and it would be unfair for me to judge the game on such little time.  I really liked the character creation and all that, and the graphics are great.  My problem is that I just can't seem to get in to this game.

All of my friends play this game (thus I wound up playing), but despite them enjoying it I just can't seem to.  I want to though.  Does anybody have any suggestions?

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

I'm sorry, but your going to have to quit. basicly what your doing, you will still be doing 20 lvl's ahead. you can join pvp once in a while at higher lvl's, but thats about it.  I hardly noticed anything else then "go in and kill everything inside" when I played for quite a long time. if you like it, you will have a blast all the way to the cap. if you don't then don't waste your money because its not going to change.

what the last poster says is true,  If your not into the super hero genre and the game is just to clicking with you, then stop you not going to get happyer about it and even thow you have many friends play it (which we thank) if you are not having fun or enjoying playing with your friends or other folks then stop, it's not the game for you.

But if you stop at least remember you tried it did work and move on dont go bitter on it and oh ya find a young villian and give them you influance and salvage so it doesnt go to waste

I tell my friends same thing. It's the same from bottom to top. I tell them for me it's about the storyline. When on TF or my own missions I read the storyline as much as I can, otherwise it's the exact same mission over and over again. Get into the story.

Also go give PVP a try. Try something new!

I am having the same problem as the original poster. I try to get into the story, but then I get into a group and run through missions like crazy. I find that any group, in any MMORPG, the pace is very fast and there is no time to read or pay attention to the story. So it seems that you end up just doing endless meaningless missions.
I am trying so hard to weather through it so I can see other zones...and get my cape. I haven't given up yet.

I am in the same boat with the OP.  My little brother plays CoH and CoV, and he really likes it.  When I noticed that the free trial was going on, I jumped in, just to discover that CoV is AO all over again.  Repetitive and, frankly, just boring.  I didn't care for the UI either, I found it a bit too clumsy.  But, I really, really like the whole hero/villain concept.  I've spent more time creating villains than I have playing the game.  The character creation system is awesome, but game just doesn't rock my world.  Maybe because I've been playing WoW for the past four months.  Games like CoV, compared to WoW, just aren't going to impress me.

I know this is a matter of opinion, but I could not disagree more.  This is one of the most flexible gui's I have ever seen.  You can arrange it in any way you wish, and you can fully map your own keybinds.  What more could be done?  This is faster and more streamlined for me than UO, Horizon's, EQ, WoW, and SWG combined.

Gotta agree with the other posters, there is no 'trick' to liking it, it's either for you or it ain't.  One thing I do, is I keep one character just for soloing so I can read all the story lines. My villain has 31 mission souveniers already, and I'm hoping for more come issue 7.  Create other toons for grouping with friends or supergroup players, but keep one for yourself to see the stories.  If you blow past those, there's really not much else to it except the grind, and nobody likes that.

If you haven't explored WoW's extendible GUI, then you don't know what "flexible" is.  To be fair, I grew out of WoW's default GUI fairly quickly.  It's usable, but it has its issues just like any other game.  But, the great thing about WoW, even if you don't like the game itself, is that the UI is fully customizable and extendable via Blizzard's scripting API.  I currently use a mod called Discord Action Bars, which lets you get rid of all the fluff, and modify your interface for maximum functionality.  And there are literally thousands of UI mods for WoW available these days.  About twelve of them are actually worth downloading.  But, I could write an entire list of things that I don't like in CoX and WoW's default UI's.

I think the best way to get into any MMORPG is to RP. If you have never dreamed of being a super hero capable of flying around at super sonic speeds and laying waste to evil-doers, then this game is most likely not going to fly with you. But as others have said, the story archs are well done, and the sense of accomplishment and good deeds are magnified with awards and badges.

If you aren't an RP'er, then I would suggest the PvP zones to really test your skills. There is no other MMO on the market that has this fast of a PvP system. You will constantly be challenged and will need to come up with better ways to fight.

I really think most players don't read the missions (because they want to get to the action) and then speed to the action only to complain that all the missions are the same. You really have to want to be a super hero.

I am not saying the CoX ui is perfect, but it is far from what dire said it was.  And while CoX does not have a thousand ui mods out, it does not need them.

I played for a little over a year and a half, and i can say the only thing that was really keeping me from quitting was the people in the game.

Everyday I was able to find something fun and exciting to do, as long as i had a few friends to enjoy it with.

Play with your real life friends, and then make or join a SG. Do missions, TF's, and eventually Hammy. Make random alts (a class that you wouldnt normally play) and just have some friends do some missions or some street hunting.

Thats what i did at least, and it was fun for a while.

    Good luck
