The Ashes of Creation team has posted a lengthy new blog looking ahead at 2019 and the plans it has to be more proactive with showing off the game. Every month, the team will showcase new art, articles and a video. This month, for instance, the team will be taking an in-depth look at the node system. In addition, plans are in motion for a new developer diary video series that will focus on most of the games systems and stream events will be held on the last Thursday of every month.

Sounds like a lot of content... hopefully they actaully have something new, and MMO related, to show (i.e. not just more flashy combat with a generic fantasy backdrop).

    Flexing is the new trend.
I totally agree with you, just a waste of resources for me.
Sure i want the whole team to have a good work environment, but this is total overkill.
Unless there is more to this then they told us.

Though funny enough, there is another thread where people are getting down on Portalarium for getting rid of their office.

My issues is not the office but why build one? There isn't a place where they could set up shop while developing and THEN if the game is a huge success build a site? Or at least upgrade?

If this was my company I'd fire him on the spot just for doing that.

Wonder what the relationship is between the land/building and the CEO.  I remember folks saying that while he got his start in MLM stuff he made more money in real estate.

Things that make you go... hmmmmmm

Was stationed in San Diego for several years and unless something shifted, it is definitely NOT cheaper to build than it is to lease.

Does it matter really? It's probably being funded by Steven's bank roll. Is it any different than any other millionaire buying a Malibu home? LOL

The in-thing with crowd funding is to fund the development of the studio building instead of the development of the game.

Oh joy, an in-depth look at the node system that they already gave us an in-depth look at.

Meanwhile the only thing that actually exists (albeit as an insult to the word "exists") is a really really terrible battle royale mode.

First off, the QA manager stache looks horrible and uneven.

Seriously when you start picking apart the staff web page then you are getting close to being fed up.

in b4 jahlon is kicked from the content creator program.

still no faith in this game.

But i'll point out, I at least try to line up the images on my webpage.

80 days since their forums [and dubious referral system] died, no eta on restoration. [or even links to the available 'read only' / explanation of either]

they also neglected to tweet/facebook/email about the letter...just discord as usual.

the fluffiest ~2900 word letter in awhile, that basically says nothing.

That's because it's no longer headed towards an actual MMO.  They are going to announce that the BR is the direction they are going and get lawsuits filed by every kickstarter patron lol

I've come to the conclusion that crowd funding games just isn't for me. I don't like how it works. I don't like the negative energy it generates. I don't like how much momentum needs to rely on hype. I don't  like most everything about it anymore and the few positive aspects are drowned out by the bad stuff. A few projects have worked out well as the exceptions, but mostly I just wish I could have engaged them in any other way. It just brings out the worst in everyone, at some point, and I hate it.
    Pick better projects?

Maybe you put to much into the idea of these games "having to launch."

Most everything that I've kickstarted has "come to fruition."

I do have a few that I'm waiting for and funny enough, this game is one of them (I have no recollection of backing it but I suppose at some point I thought it would be good)

Thing is, I give the money and then it's gone. I don't wait with baited breath or get angry if something might not happen, and I usually back things that I feel might have a better than average chance of releasing.

And if they don't release then that's ok too.

If there IS any connection, you can bet it;s buried under several layers of shell companies and subsidiaries, etc.

In theory, this could be a great way of "diverting and securing" crowdfunding cash, because if the project does tank, this expenditure can be used as a "plausible" accounting of where a certain chunk of the funds went...

That's all the KS rules requires, isn't it ? As long as the project owners can account for every penny, they'll get no lip from KS...

This is scary. It's starting to look like they care more about advertising than making a good game.

There has to be a better and more marketable term than "node system." It sounds like something for which you would use an antibacterial cream.

Most everything I've picked has finished. No one has screwed me, not even Ashes. I have explored and don't like the process. It isn't about quality, my predictive powers, or willingness to write off time and money. I don't like it as a project process. I've come to that conclusion after several projects and years of doing this. In the effort to find better ways to make games, this isn't one of them for me. It doesn't just affect games, this was also how I've funded some music. I don't like it for that either.
I have found success in everything I have backed except MMORPGs.  Even regular computer games have turned out well with Divinity OS 1&2, Etc...
The scope of an MMORPG seems a poor fit for the Kickstarter Concept.

Like I told them in Discord last night.  The game I seen at Pax East last year and before is the game I want to play.  Not the BR action combat piece of shit that is being worked on right now.
