Any other one-time-payment MMOGs like Guild Wars?

After i bought Guild Wars, i grew quite accustomed to having an available server with absolutely no lags, technical service on the highest tier, and frequent updates when they are needed... and all of this with just a one-time payment, without the need of paying every month... Therefore i'm asking, are there any other MMOGs similiar to Guild Wars in the one-time payment aspect? (You just pay for the game, and no credit card required)

Right now GW is the only one , but very soon

1.Dungeon Runners -from GW developers ( for this one it is not sure if it will be one time purchase )
    2.Hellgate London
    3.NWN2

none of those are MMO's. They are however all online games.

MMO's cost money period, and seamless world will lag,(ie WoW or EQ and such).

that statement sir...is FALSE.  there are a couple games

(PotBS [i think] and roma victor)

coming out that use an alternative payment methods.  romavictor i know is one time pay, cheap at that, and you only put money in as you feel.  you dont even need to pay but that one time pay...very good.

and im pretty sure PotBS has a similar system, not sure

Just remember you get what you pay for. The cost of running a dedicated server for a persistent world is not cheap.

But yeah GW is not really an MMOG. Its more like a more advanced, more polished, competitive Diablo II. As far as persistent world, which is basically the definition of an MMO, there are a few, some of them are free, and you pay for better items/equipment and the like.

But as it stands now, it costs a ton of money to buy and run the servers that can host 1000's of players on one persistent world. As such that is why we pay the fees that we do.

Companies I think will go with the free model over the one-time pay model for legal and pr reasons. You release game, saying the only price for the game is buying the game. You find later that the cost of running the servers and things costs more then the revenue is bringing in, so now you start charging, or release nice items on a pay basis, community would probably outrage at those new things. But with a free game, you can move to the charge system quite easily, since nobody actually paid for the game.

So for sacrificing the not having to pay for a game every month, you will end up having to sacrifice a bunch of other things that typically make up an MMO.

Including GW - but quite true. (and OP asked for GW model)

Nevertheless some so called MMO's are pushing the same model with monthly fee -> Namely DDO and to some extent COH/COV

Also NWN2 is outside of this model. Because it is persistant, and not instanced - but it is hardly massive , with its 60 player limit per server (although there is lot of workarounds)

how about MapleStory? (for argument's sake).

you don't have to pay a cent. Always updates, and new events. Special event items all the time... etc etc. It's free to play. Don't even have to pay.

    So it is possible.
