Also GW2 cash shop cosmetics are much higher quality than the ones you earn in-game
Completely disagree. Plus, the cash shop cosmetics make up like 2% of the available skins in the game. Personally, I think the GW2 cash shop skins are fugly and have never once even considered wanting one.
Try earning a cool mount in ESO without paying.
Your whole post is full of misinformation and things you probably don't really understand. For example, saying ESO wins in terms of 'freeness' because you can 'pay' monthly and get some cash shop currency each month... Not only is that the most contradictory thing I've heard in a long time, you also completely ignore the fact that you can earn infinite free gems in GW2 by exchanging gold... which you can farm all day long if you really wanted to.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
ESO's trading system is hot trash, and it has nothing to do with being allergic to anything. Running around to arbitrary places just to find guild traders is a waste of time. Implement a proper AH system, FFS. Games are not life, and there is no virtue in being "okay" with having your time wasted - truly wasted - by awful design elements.
And WTF are modern gamers? You aren't special just because you started playing MMORPGs a few years earlier than someone else.
I originally had ESO on PC but wanted Console MMO. But honestly if GW2 even had a basic Console version that did a few things I would 100% it over ESO. If you want a laid back console MMO, get ESO, otherwise GW2 been better to me here. Its WvW seem more alive than ESO even when it's dead. Also the open world content is just way better and more fun. ESO is better at storytelling imo, as Living Story is very annoying. I hate how my character is this prime great being in the story, yet I can easily get killed by 1000s of other players, yet my character is this epic hero that is stronger than all the other lore characters. I hate that. In WoW for example you have legendary lore characters that a normal Adventurer (which is what player characters are called in lore) can never compete with. I like storytelling like that. Huge turn off in GW2.
Granted i havent played either for years, the difference is simple.
GW2 to putz around and do mmorpg stuffs without being told you need to do those things. ESO if you want the TSO story and traditional MMO experience (once i got over combat not being skyrim it was pretty damn fun)
Simple as that. Both have pros and cons but to put it simply one is for the story and progression the other is to just putz around a mmorpg and enjoy life as it comes at you.
For me GW2 is more of a causal game. It's fun but I get bored with it pretty fast. ESO requires more thought as it isn't as forgiving and you can actually make the game harder for yourself by picking certain skills over others. ESO is hands down the one if you are looking for the RPG part of MMORPG. It is head over heels better in that department. Planning on jumping back into my ESO rotation when they launch the next xpac with the necro myself.
Elder Scrolls Online or Guild Wars 2. I would say Elder Scrolls Online. I have played both and both are very good for my taste, even though they both fail to give you the experience that you play an online game, both feel like offline games somehow. But I quess people like such kind of mmorpgs today. Certainly has ESO more content, it's like PVE questing heaven, seems nevereding exploration,...ESO certainly sets the milestone when it comes to PVE content,..while as others have mentioned the combat system is annoying.ESO have one of the worst combat mechanics that you might come across, same no less horrible trading system,..but still the PVE content is so much better as any other mmorpg today offer, that even with bad gameplay is Eso still pve vise - in my opinion the best adress, and it will probably remain many years to come, considering that no new or upcoming mmorpg seems to offer much till nothing in PVE, let alone quality.
