The Sequels that Never Came

And then there are the sequels you expected would come out but never did.

In the mmorpg category, I wanted (and still crave) a genuine sequel to Everquest, but Everquest Next cratered. And yes, I know there are indie games that may be "spiritual successors," but it won't be Everquest.

In the non-mmorpg category I wanted a sequel to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Didn't get one. Man that was a fun game.  Rolling up on someone's city with a giant ball of twine looking thing - good times.

What sequel did you want and never got?

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Probably the most famous no-show was Ultima Online 2.  Less rampant PvP, more of the story similar to the Ultima cRPG games.  But that's just more promises.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

I don't see a why you would launch a MMO sequel whn you can keep updating original without stop.

now if I could get my hands on dragon dogma 2 that would bemore interesting
FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

"Spiritual Successors" have usually missed the mark for me. I backed 2 "spiritual successors" and one has already tanked. The other I'm still waiting on.

    SW:KotR 3!

I would have liked to have seen a "closer to the original" EQ2. the EQ2 that released just never grabbed me.

    And finally, Rocky 25!

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

    Priston tale war
Ragnarok online Gate of the world

When he was still at Daybreak, John Smedley promised a game that would cater to "Star Wars Galaxies fans." I guess it's better it never released as Daybreak is one of the worst studios around imo.

Anarchy Online 2 was the one I was hoping would always come.

I was hoping that when the Ryzom assets were released to the public some kind of total conversion mod of Ryzom would appear.  I also would have liked a Dofus 2 that wasn't Wakfu.  Or WoW 2 rather than expansion after expansion that fix none of the game's fundamental problems.
I want to help design and develop a PvE-focused, solo-friendly, sandpark MMO which combines crafting, monster hunting, and story.  So PM me if you are starting one.

Ragnarok Online 2....I'll never acknowledge that game's existence and I'm sure many will agree with me.

    Fallout 3, the Interplay one.
Was that the partial game that never got finished? I think I got some kind of look at it through my Fallout 1 & 2 purchases through GOG.

I wanted Lineage 1 to be expanded on.
L1 still holds my favorite mmorpg moments.
Lineage 2 is not a bad game but not an evolution on Lineage 1

I would also like the chance to work on a Spellborn game again.

On a non mmorpg side I would say a direct sequel to Far Cry 2 and a real Sleeping Dogs 2 =/
Spellborn yes, I had the chance to be involved in some of its translation work and completely forgot about it until it was too late  :#

Pretty sure it would have been much more succesful with my involvement :p

    Besides that:

    Anarchy Online 2

And my all time favourite disappointment:

    Everquest Next. Screw them.

    Kyleran on yours sincerely

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'

Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I would say I'm still waiting for a Jade Empire 2, but honestly kind of afraid of what they'd deliver nowadays.
