The "Free" Trial

Kem0sabeKem0sabe Member Posts: 443
So i decided to try out the free fileplanet trial, i download it, install it, and create an account for it, as usual, these trials ask for a CC number, so i enter that aswell.

And what happens? im emidiatly billed the 14$ montly fee, i try to cancell my account, but its impossible to cancell the account yourself if you selected the global colect option. So i contact billing support, first by email, wich they dont respond, then by phone, wich is an international call wich is expensive as hell. After much waiting, they say they will look into cancelling my account, but will not refund my money >.<

Seriously, CS in the other SOE game i recently played as great (EQ2), i could edit, cancel my account at my pleasing, and now this? im billed up front for a free trial and they wont refund the money, plus i have to make an expensive international call just to cancell my free trial account.

Goodluck keeping players past the free trial, with this kind of service.

Contact your bank/credit card company to dispute the charge (bank might have a fee for chargeback).

Read his post trough once more

He said, that he got billed by SOE not by Fileplanet. The free trial needs you to register a CC and he got billed by the game.

When you are prompted to enter your CC information, don't. You can still log in and have the 10 free days.

there was no need to fill out all the billing information at once, if you'd read everything carefully in the registration progress, you'd've seen it said something like:
"you're now subscribed to a free trial program, if you want to continue playing after that, click the continue button"

not exactly that, but something along those lines.....

don't complain about things if it's your own fault, read more carefully from now on...

There wasnt anything like that at all, setup a free trial and you will see.

During the whole free trial registration process i was asked first to, make a station account, wich i already had from EQ2, then use the cd-key that was provided from fileplanet, then it asked me for the my credit card, and to choose a subscription plan, at no time during that process was i prompted "we will charge you 14$ right after you finish registration" at no time was there an option to cancell the registration process right after i imputed the cd-key, so i could go right to playing the trial.

    I point you out to:

    Post on the oficial forums

I made that post concerning this issue, as you can see, the response from the moderator was that they would only bill me after the 10 day trial, then why was i billed before i even began to play the trial?

Simply put, they messed up. When i asked for my money back, they refused to give it to me. I´ve now contacted mt credit card company and let them deal with SOE. *shrug*

Another thing, forcing a player to make an international call wich is not free, just so they can cancell their free trial, is just plain abuse. All those using the global colect payment option must do this, and get knocked for another 10$ plus in phone bills.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you fudged up and are blaming SOE.  While I am not a big fan of SOE I am greatly enjoying my second foray into the world of the matrix.  Machines/Vector FTW!!!

when they accept ur trial key than u have the trial the rest u can click away because when u look at ur station account info there stands trial active. They want tha u give ur CC number or so then u must pay because u have accept this abo.ITS A TRICK to get more payers.
U can play 10 days than u can still decide.

Yes, I did the same mistake and yes, it IS written there.

When you insert the CD-key appear a small message that says "you are now subscribed to the trial, if you want to continue playing after the 10 days, press continue".

I did so and filled in all details because, stupid that i am, didn't read properly. So i got billed a month as well. I did again for my wife, this time reading carefully, and got it. You just stop there and you get 10 days free trial.

Wanna know what is the best? I bought a month and my free trials was cancelled. my game time is not 40 days, 10 days free and 30 days paid, but 30 days paid. So.... where are my 10 days again?

Not that i want them after all, the game was pretty shabby after the few hours of excitment to see the interlock combat.

This being said, it DOES sound fishy. I mean, why not have a bit clearer message? Why put it like "continue" and "back" so that fool guys like us do not understand it fully and just press "continue" thinking the set up is not done?

Is it my fault? yes. But this IS bad business practice and surely do not tell me mcuh good about them, then again... it is SOE we are speaking of...

Nope thats a faulty contract. Every mmorpg I have tried so far have an "you will now be subscribed/billed please CONFIRM this information"-warning or something similar, only 1 button push for getting money withdrawn from your account is not acceptable.
Should not the money be withdrawn AFTER the 10 days & not before?

Also people have always a right to complain (doesnt make them correct but still a right).

There should have been two buttons, "Free Trial" and "Continue".

Having to put in CC info to play a MMORPG trial is nothing new, many games have asked for it.  So long as you cancel within the trial period you won't be billed.  In this case, if you pay, you DO NOT get any of the free days.  If you cancel right after you sign up, you just got yourself a month.

It sure looks like they are trying to trick people into paying.  If you have to trick people into buying your product, how good can it be?

It wasn't exactly a 1 button push. The free trial DO NOT require CC information entered in.

It is after you have done the free trial registration that they ask "continue" or "back" and then they ask for the CC.

THey really covered their backs in this one, but it is still bad business practice, in my book at least.
