I just recently quit playing GW2, after 3.5 months; just couldn't get motivated to play it any longer. Overall, I liked/loved about 30% of the gameplay content that ArenaNet produced...the other 70% I found to be irritating, to one degree or another. I'll probably keep doing the "dailies" and my daily crafting, but it's not likely that I'll ever spend anymore money on the game...unless they release a new expansion.

It failed because it never came close to living up to this.

It failed Because before launch their booth at gamescon had more to do with an art exhibit than it did the game.

It failed because of the general Political Horseshit surrounding the games and film industry.

It failed because it had a cult following instead of a Mass following.
Freaking so sad they didn't follow through with this idea and listened to Wow fans.

Failed? Y'all are crazy. Name a US MMO outside of WoW more successful and still going? ESO, sorry no. SWToR... nope. LotRO, and another no. Final Fantasy is at best a maybe and not really a US based MMO. If GW2 is doing it all wrong they are still more right than pretty much anyone else.

How about we give them more than a few weeks to move direction before we start pronouncing their flagship game "dead" and a "failure". By all measure GW2 is a massive success and one that can still anchor them into the foreseeable future. Can ANet make another MMO? I don't know given the market changes but what I do know is they have two big wins in a category most straight up fail in. At this point numerous companies would like to have a failure as good as GW2.

I would also point out that the AAA PC gaming industry as a whole is struggling. Bioware... dumpster fire. Blizzard... dumpster fire. Rockstar, seems to think bringing games to the PC is mostly pointless.Gear Box... what have you done for us lately? UbiSoft... ughhhhh.

Runescape. Thing is though Gw2 was terrible right off the bat. They tried to take what makes a mmorpg involving...activities and gear. WvW was a zerg CC fest mess(No incentive for guilds to claim a fortress and live out of it.)

They tried to be innovative in the wrong areas and failed to succeed in the areas they choose to targer(Esport 1v1 2v2 ect).

Too many mmorpgs tried to stick to the Wow model and players were tired of WoW...so we are stuck in a dead market waiting to see if any crowd funded games do anything, which so far they are all failing very hard at delivering.

A game that lives for 7 years (and counting) can't really be considered a failure by any objective metric.

GW2 suffers from lazy development. Sure they put out these living story's and such but there has been really improvements in game play or mechanics.

Look at how the new class/jobs or whatever they want to call them work. Their really not a new class they are just a bit different from the other with a new to class weapon. It's a easy and lazy way to come out with something they call a new class but it really isn't. A new class should have a new to game weapon with new and different damage types not just more of the same.

Another problem is their way of making the mechanics of a fight harder,,,, Add more AOE and cover the ground with the AOE so you don't have a hope of dodging. As apposed to developing new mechanic that take thought to implement.

Another problem is their complete lack of interest in keeping the dungeons worth doing and or adding new ones. They nerf them so hard that no one want to run them any more. Years ago you could run a handful in a hour and make some good loot and gold but not now a days. And specking of loot! That's another problem,,, the loot drops sucks.

Living story is a really good idea, but it has a lot of problems as well. I'm a member of TOG and have been for years and I can remember so many of the members left GW2 after the 1st living story and many of them were disappointed. The big problem I see with the living story is how it changes the in game world to the point that new people coming into the game CANNOT experience GW2 as it was before the living world.

So many people left after Lions Arch was destroyed and now we have something that looks out of place sure it's a change but it was a change for the worse. Old Lions Arch had a warmth and ambiance to it that people really loved and that loss of it was one of the biggest kicks in peoples sides.

And then there was HoT and that's a chapter all to it's own needless to say many are not fans and I thought the story was really poor.

Anyway needless to say GW2 is a good game BUT it could be much better if Anet was not so lazy, maybe that's why so many were laid off? GW2 is't going anywhere meaning it's not going to shut down but if they don't put on their thinking caps and start working it won't be moving forward as well will be like another MMO just hanging on hoping against hope.

Lets hope they wake up and pull up their boot straps and get to work!!

Omfg I've posted 2 post all ready and neither sent... Gw2 has 3 problems. 1 the content and marketing is stale in between expansions. 2. Console gaming has much better market and less are staying. 3.is the most important and that's the community it's self. Read some of the comments above and what do you think a new player or someone who wants to get into the game is going to think when they read this?

Obviously you care about the game or you wouldn't still be playing and buying expansions. Think how are you networking the game? Are you sitting in a forum talking crap or are you in game helping out a new person? Are you going out of your way to tell others about the game to get them interested? Are you complaining about bad content when you are neglecting the gem store? I've been a pvper sense launch and honestly you will hardly ever see me que from the actual lobby. Because I'm tired of the pvp community, we have a bit of a class system. We have the elite players that should be helping out more, we have the average player that only knows how to shit talk and then noobs who can't tell the difference between keyboard and mouse turning. If you know me in game I'm always helping people. Why? Because how are we going to grow if wepush away our new players!? Let alone shorten our que times.

All I'm saying is lend a hand to new players, network right and if you have a few extra dollars buy something from tp. If you want change then you need to be the change you want to see.

I have a very simple view of Arena.net,it began with GW1 never mind Gw2.
Anet is a very deceptive developer, success built on lies and misleading ideas. They had only one goal from the very first day,to build a CHEAPER version of a game to support their b2p model.

They had to go that route because they KNEW their game was not good enough to compete head on with other subscription mmorpg's.

Even still they could not resist,a cash shop was brought in.They NEVER delivered on actual Guild Wars.I played FFXi for 15 years, even after players left they never had a cash shop. They stuck by their core values as a developer. There lies another huge difference,Square Enix never did much talking,no need for BS marketing schemes, they simply put out a product and let players decide.

Just like many other developers,i have ZERO trust in anything Anet has to say,be honest and straight forward from day 1 and i will trust you to the end.Don't tell me how you are going to change the genre or do it better, just do it,then we will decide.NO cash shops either and try to lose the instances,i play Atlas,NO instances, always an open world as it SHOULD be.

Misplaced devotion to the living story (quests) and meaningless pvp. Meanwhile the gaming world began to detest quests and want nothing but pvp.

They need to monetize more. Start selling the types of things ESO sales in their cash shop.

I find myself in agreement about the manifesto.
To me, if felt like they wanted to check off the points on the technical piece, but the "What that means" part of the experience was not delivered at all. Practically none of it.

    I'll never forget...."I swung a sword....HEY! I swung a sword again"  As if.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game and still play it. But I am very critical of how ANET capitalized on undelivered promises.
