So many mmropg are picking the good vs evil, factions type pvp where you attack someone just because they happen to be in enemy faction. Players should decide who is their or their clan enemy insteace dev team coding it to game.
Like in wow you attack horde if you are in alliance, not because he did something to you, not because your clan declared war on them for something they did, but because it was just coded into game that these 2 are enemies.

Ryzom has faction PvP, but it's not as simple as Good vs. Evil. The factions have differing idealogies, but nothing tells you which one is "right" or "wrong" other than your character's own conscience. Your race doesn't determine your faction either, and with a certain amount of work, you can switch at any time after choosing a faction.
It has a deep story...but that story is also dynamic. Player actions, alliances, etc. affect the political balance between the factions. So you can "have it both ways."

That just seems like a style thing to me. Make-of-it-what-you-will is probably great if you're in a good clan. Factions make life easier to organize on the fly.
Never whined about not enough story and when I play mmorpgs I couldn't care less about story. For me it's players who make the story, events and history of mmorpg. I am playing Eve, but there isnt really good fantasy mmorpg with that freedom, Uo used to have and maybe still have in Siege, but it's different game now.
Actually I am bit worried for Eve as they are planning to add faction wars in Kali. It could make player conflicts less about players starting the conflicts and more about "we shoot you, because you are in enemy faction" and resulting very black and white player politics in game.
Actually it's not really good vs. evil in Warcraft, simply because the Horde is not really evil. The only truly evil race (Forsaken) was accepted by the Horde because Thrall believes they can be redeemed. So it's not exactly black and white. And in the server where I play Hordies frequently visit peacefully our side wearing simple clothes. Some bash them on sight, others try to protect them. A faction war element is good because it gives some more meaning to a conflict beyond "his char ganked mine two months ago" or "this group stole our boss kill". That being said a fantasy MMORPG with an open-ended story is missing. Perhaps because it's simpler for players to appreciate politics on a more familiar setting (i.e. one based on modern political systems and concepts) than a fictional feudal world or monarchy.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "

Roma Victor is like the game you are describing. You start off as a Roman or Barbarian., where the two factions are obviously at war with each other. But as a Roman, you can kill another Romans if you are willing to suffer the penalty (if you are caught..).
I think games should be like that. I mean betryals do happen. I wish I could kill some fellow Alliance memebers...
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
