Not that I play this game but good to hear some business occurring in MMOs. Any win for an MMO is good for the community.

30% of their money made came from mobile where its not even a world-wide release yet?

That's exactly what I thought too. Who can blame big house developers for wanting to go after mobile dollars? Quick, easy money that ostensibly will fun AAA game development.

Not blaming them at all. I was going to comment about how impressive that is. When you think about it they are crossing one billion in 4 years. The game on mobile has done 30% of that in like 13 months? 300 million off of a non global release on mobile. Seems clear to me they will cross 500m after releasing for NA/EU on phones in the first half of 2019. Hopefully they use that to pump funds into both versions.

This is great news. Maybe some other companies will start making mmorpgs again.

No one should be blamed for trying to make money legally. Depending on the situation, sometimes even illegally is fine in my opinion but let's not go there ;)

Well, asian game so pvp is usually a part of the package.

they "could" bolster the pve experience and make a pve server.

That's ~$50/user i.e. cost of base game + 1 costume. Happens when characters aren't ugly as sin.

    Thank you for your time!

Their mobile version is like the best ever mobile game made so far, in a technical sense, so.. there's that.

That's the thing, the game itself is amazingly beautiful, bar their solution for loading far assets with pop-ins.

It's compelling to be in the world. I wish more western mmorpg's got this.

Well, I'd love to have dungeons and whatnot besides BDO as a pve game. While I can stomach some grinding, I don't want to only do it for 24/7 which is why I said maybe a new mmo (or mmo light) in the future.

hmmm, I wonder if there will be more mmorpg's of that magnitude in the future? Also, it would be easier to add "dungeons" (though for me dungeons are grinding, like Lineage 2 dungeons, not World of Warcraft things) and a pve server than make a new game.

They already have a game. What they choose to do with it is the thing.

But to make an all new game? I don't see many companies making new, large mmorpg's for quite some time.

Whenever you have a competitive game and a way to become more competitive by spending money you will find this. And cheating.

I'd be fine with a smaller scale, even hybrid lobby style game to be honest. They have the combat on check already, their issue atm is handling too many players fighting on screen.

But will you continue to fund long term more risky AAA games with the easy money in the long term? Or go with the easy money and leave AAA to the birds? I can't see what's stopping them from saying "Ok with all this mobile money coming in we can start developing the new MMO in a year or two, why bother now, just knock out some more mobile content."

Ah, come on, they don't 'only' think about the money. There's plenty of execs who do things because they think it's cool and they enjoy it... or are proud of it.

I know it's common on this site to just claim they only care about milking our wallets but it's not true. Loads of developers are passionate and proud and want to do a good job.. want to be liked or respected too. Loads of publishers are like that too. Money is factor, a big one, but it's not the only factor. The people making these games want us to be impressed with their work because they love what they do and there will be plenty of devs and pubs that think mobile games are as crappy as a lot of us do.

Its the top ptw whale heavy game that's out now. With accounts selling for 6 -11k it's kinda wild.
Its also the best afk mmo.

Dune the MMO is in the works but way off.
