My heavy involvement in the KingsIsle community has exposed me to numerous opportunities ranging from contests to giveaways to anything in-between. While I started with the equivalent of a broke piggy bank, I can now say that I'm pretty well off in the virtual currency department. As of writing this article, I have 106, 962 crowns. Not too shabby ... but I've run into a problem. I don't know what to do with them.

the mention of Crowns should never be a factor, players should have EVERY option in game to completely AVOID the crown store.
Kings Isle should go down as SCUM,operating one of the most invasive cash shops in a kids game.KI has made VERY little attempt to keep the economy of THE GAME,IN the game but made very heavy attempts at removing the game for the cash shop.
Playing games SHOULD always 100% of the time be about FUN and playing the game,we should never see cash shops interfering with ANY of it.This is likely why the game has lost millions of players over the years, some kids hangout in the free watering hole "the commons" for awhile, realize they can't play anymore unless pay pay pay and quit.
The way the game is designed is it really is borderline a co op game, there is VERY little that supports MMO.The little that is mmo like the login screen shouldn't even be necessary ,this game could be a one time sale of maybe $50 and then that is it,you and some friends go play co op as only max 4 can enter a circle anyhow.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Hmmm, while I agree that the cash shop maybe shouldn't be the way it is in a kids game it's pretty obvious that it's how the game has survived so long.
If you only want to only experience the game w/o the RNG cash shop items if you buy crowns during the 50% off sale you can buy all zones in the game for $160-$200. That is the price of a few expac of other MMO's and in W101 sub is not really necessary like it is required in FF and WoW. If you absolutely need the items from the card packs then that is another story entirely.
The amount of stuff to do in W101 is the reason why I still play sometimes. It has PVP, well designed dungeon finder, rewards for helping others, farming, housing, item/character progression, cosmetics, fishing, seasonal events, swapping of skills/spells, good community, pets that contribute in battle/ can be advanced. Sometimes I wish other games I play had some of the features W101 has like ESO with the pets that don't do anything.
I really like turn based games though too so that is another reason I still play.
