    Server Setup News/Updates

We have been talking and collaborating with multiple people on this and we are currently setting up a server, getting ready to move forward putting everything together and getting a server up and running. Obviously this will take time. We are estimating that within a week or two we should have a proof of concept up and running for everybody to see. We will be posting details as things progress but it looks like over the next day or two we will have everything we need to move forward.

Once we have all the files and code required to get everything running we will be coming to the community for help, so if you're interested in putting forth a helping hand keep a close eye on this post we will be adding further details to the comment section below.

Thank you all so much for your help and support and we are excited to be moving forward on this project.

    See you in Atlas Park!

Problem is that it reads like a generic developer wishlist and if they set out to build all those things they would fail catastrophically because they would lack the resources to finish most of those things and plenty of things will end up half-arsed.

If that's the best plan they could come up with for COH2 its no wonder it never happened.

I still can't believe they just yanked it when they did. Right as the Marvel movies were starting to kick in. I miss CoX so much. I would re-sub in a heartbeat if they brought it back.
My assumption: they didn't have enough free cash flow to fund another development and nor did they have the "appetite"; they were not prepared to take another risk.

As I said above they had bought Carbine for $X the year before. And just like the CoH devs Wildstar will have presented NCSoft with a sales pitch. Unlike the simple slideshow the CoH devs put together though Carbine spent 2 years making theirs. It will have been glossy, it will have had artwork, animations, wonderful sales projections, a roster of people involved in WoW etc. etc.  Wildstar: a game to rival WoW! Which for 7 years would eat away at NCSoft's free cash flow - the amount of money they put into new game development.

And lets not forget in 2007 they had just released Tabula Rasa - which did not do well and which they would go on to close in January 2009. Hence my comment about them not having the "appetite" to take on more risk.

Would a - sort of - CoH2 have worked? (Sort of since they were going to tap into the CoH/CoV stuff.) We will never know. Almost certainly though it would have been quicker to make than Wildstar, cheaper than Wildstar and could not have done any worse.

Hence if only they had made the pitch a year earlier.

CoH 2 I think would still be thriving to this day, an actual good super hero MMO is what's missing in this oversaturated market right now. Champions Online is the closest thing, which isn't saying much, because I wouldn't even rate CO as average.

Well, it's one of three things that I would say are missing in this market:

    1) A quality superhero MMO

    2) A quality martial arts MMO

    3) A modern instanced, knowledge-based CRPG akin to the original Guild Wars.

Naw were missing actual mmorpgs in the genre these days, most "mmos" today are bascally single player games with a chat box till your at level cap. I miss old school ff11 where you had to party to get anything done, it was tough, but felt rewarding when you got things done, something I just can't get from todays mmorpgs or the casualified ff11. I've pretty much given up on mmorpgs as a whole as everyone that comes out just caters to casuals and they all feel like the same game with a different skin over it. World of Warcraft is what caused the downfall of mmorpgs once it went from 1.0 and started to cater to casuals.

Now a days casuals is where the money is, so we'll probally never see an actual mmorpg anytime soon, ones that were about the journey to level cap, not just a single player boring game rushing to lv cap for raids that really have no purpose. I mean once you get the raid gear... what do you.. do with it? There is literally nothing to use it for in pretty much all mmorpgs. Raiding to me just seems stressful and not very fun and the gain in the end just does not seem worth the time and stress spent to get the gear.

I can't really name any mmorpg in the last 6-10 years that I would actually consider decent other than FF11 before they casualified it. Even after it went thru this change I honestly feel its still a better mmorpg than anything after it.

I just hope ship of heroes doesn't go the route every other mmorpg does, where its bascally completly soloable for most of the game. I liked how City of Heroes/villians did it, yes you could solo, but it really wasn't very efficent for most classes, so it really made people want to group up.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

The time is ripe for a great hero mmorpg.
