Kinda like Kodak making cameras in the age of the iPhone.
BR is essentially a flavor-of-the-month game mode. The cheers for Borderlands 3 not going down that path were loud and deserved. Prior to Battle Royale it was MOBA. This goes all the way back to turn based strategy vs real time. They all have a place. Some people like story which BR has zero of.
This is like the third article in this vein. Seems like someone's desperate attempt to convince themselves that the game isn't sun setting when it really is.
and i quote the late great chester benington from linkin park:
in the end it dosent even matter.
lets just hope they keep it alive with somthing fresh and new.
cause like death, its gonna come and there is nothing you can say or do to stop it
lets hope for the best. cause it cant get any worse...in game or real life.
Gonna pass on anything like this.. the last thing I need is an update that they could not meet dead line, changed their minds, and don't have the resources.
Egotism is the anesthetic that dullens the pain of stupidity, this is why when I try to beat my head against the stupidity of other people, I only hurt myself.
I am looking forward to the end of this living world season. There are so many directions this story could go.
But please, give me Cantha soon. Don't make me beg.
I mean, really, it's painfully obvious at this point, they never had a plan, don't have the metrics, and don't really know what they are doing, and are just kinda guessing at what to do next.
So if you can get enough people to make a fuss in a medium they listen to (Not their Official Forums) that Cantha is a good next move.. sure it can happen.
It's not like they don't know that Cantha is wanted. It's been a popular request from the very beginning.
Did you just try to put bank on them paying attention and having a clue... now that was funny.
Look if they had a clue, they never would have made HoT the way they did.. so.. get back to it and keep in making a fuss you want it.. and maybe they will catch on..
You seem to know too much about what happens inside the company. Did they fire you? They wanted to make HoT the way they did it. They are the developers. Could they have done a better job? sure, but they will never know it until they get the feedback because many people like many different things.
This applies to every developer, they make the game they want to make and not what a random internet person wants to play.
It's actually just that he's bitter about the direction they went with HoT.
I get where he's coming from, but that wasn't, as he suggests, ignoring the community's feedback. It was listening to the segment of the community that he didn't belong to.
And that's the problem with any development of anything that has an audience. It's not about listening to the audience. It's about which segment of the audience, which tries to pull you in many different directions, to listen to.
And often, I agree with you. The way to make a great game is often to not try to please anyone. It's to make the game you want to make, and hope to attract a likeminded audience.
Once developers actually paid people to test their games and even awhile after they actively sent out surveys to find a cross section of their intended playbase to test the game.
The cross section were often made up of hardcore, causal, pve, pvp players. Now hardcore players mainly seek out testing and constantly suggest the game is to easy and to make it harder, which they do.
Then the game launches and all the casual players who didn't want to test the game but wanted to play it when it came out start playing it. They complain the game is too difficult leaving the devs with a choice. Make the game easier so it appeals to a wider audience or stick to their guns and keep it as it is, knowing the game may be more difficult to maintain without a casual base.

Hi! Welcome to the Forums!
Two Points!
First: You don't speak for Everyone.
Second: If you were right, about half the topic and roughly two thirds of the posts on these forums would not exist, as such, if you can't handle a cynic.. this is not the place for you.

Unfortunately I disagree with you. Every time I see an article about GW2 I feel like it is the last gasp of a drowning swimmer fighting to stay above the waves.
There may be some air bubbles release on the way to the bottom but in the end, it's over
I don't know about "last gasp" but they are definitely flailing their arms wildly and calling for help.
We're basically getting an article on GW2 every other day now. Though, whether ANet is making a push for attention or if the MMO reporters are still just obsessing over it, I don't know.

You don't speak for everyone either...see how that works -_-

You DO know they've been given feedback at every opportunity and they ignore it, right? Why do people have such a habit of defending developers when they fuck up?
Trion was given player feedback in the first week of Rift opening and many profession were nerfed to death. People complained that there wasn't 3 factions, so Trion made a third which broke the lore of the game. Oft times players do not have the bigger picture and are selfish in the way they look at things.
On the other hand, In GW2, much of the lore has been written by players so some feedback listening would be welcome.

I do agree that players do not have a long vision in mind. Most are short sighted and self serving to the maximum extent. I absolutely agree with you on this part.
Which is why Developers need to know their market, they need to know ahead of time what will and will not work. Sometimes a players suggestions are pretty good, other times it's painfully obvious they just want to placate their own ego and vanity.
In this sense, a Developer needs to make the game that will grow for the community, and never is this more paramount than if you plan to change how the game plays, or do massive changes in the system.
Case in point, HoT was a complete direction change from how Core was made. Everything about it was a break away, from large scale meta events that took hours to complete, to confusing and complex maps that were hard to navigate, to progress locked areas, along with a very bottle necked end game raid setup with an attempt at role based classes.
This was a drastic direction change from the rest of the game, and this was something that the Developers were supposed to know ahead of time, if this was gonna rock of flop. Some people might try to excuse this, but this is their profession, this is their job.
Like any profession, they are expected to be good at it, like say a musician, going to play a piece of music, we expect them to do a good job of it, if they screw up, we do not make excuses for it, we hold them accountable. Ironically, we have a subset of gamers that will make excuses of when a developer screws us, trying to justify they could not know. Well, this is their job, their profession, they make good money supposedly knowing what they are doing, if they don't really know what they are doing why are they doing it "professionally"
Anyway, rant aside. In the end, a Developer needs to know their game, and their demographic, and what they are doing.
It is upon them to filter out the gold from the garbage when it comes to feedback.
If they lack the ability to do this, and end up listening to the trash, they have only themselves to blame, equally so, if they lack the ability to do this and ignore the gold, again, they have only themselves to blame.
Welcome to being expected to be good at your job.. stressful yo.
