ASTRO. In the world of gaming accessories, it’s almost a household name thanks to their popular gaming headsets. This month, the company is breaking new ground with the ASTRO C40 TR Gaming Controller for PS4 and PC. The C40 comes to stores at $199, looking to dominate the custom controller market. It’s a premium piece of kit at a premium price but in the right hands, could it make you a better gamer?

Saw that the direction pad is one piece and that was enough to know it is not what I would to pay that much money on. Being able to only worry about input of the direction you hit is fairly important for me to by an accessory such as this for that price. I was interested when I saw the article and sounds great otherwise.

Or you could just buy a 5$ m/kb from walmart and be instantly more accurate and responsive, but yeh.. 200$ sounds great.

Muahhahahahahahaha and here I thought $50 for a play station controller was beyond expensive, well this one take cake and rise it to the moon. I guess its aim at E-sport elite of over price good ahh I see now, if I win its all my controller' fault and not my skills, nice to have one eh?

I'm still using an Xbox 360 controller I bought in 2011. Still fully functional surprisingly.

Can I buy an optional set of 20 year old hands to operate it, instead of mid-fifties hands? That would make me a better gamer.

It's not, the crossbar pops out and can be replaced with a custom while there is no current custom directional configuration that would separate the directional buttons, it leaves the possibility for future separate directional buttons, if that's what you're looking for.

May the Chaos forever bind you to it's glory.

I have my trusty xbox 360 controller. Can't see how a CONTROLLER can anyhow make you a better player on PC.
Looks like hardware manufacturers were looking too closely to AAA game publishers and their financial strategies, bad omen...

yeah 200$.....bit much for a controller I don't care how modular it is....I balk at paying more than 50$ or 60$ for a controller....lol

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Too much money for a controller. Same reason i don't pay similarly ridiculous prices for fancy mice and keyboards. I'm in the $40-$60 dollar range for peripherals, for both console and PC. If they are on sale then even better.

And here $50-$60 was too expensive for a PS4 controller.

One that's vastly lower quality than a PS2 controller.

Get back to us after 6 months of use, after the warranty expires, and tell us how it's still holding up. Because the PS4 controller with its garbage analog sticks doesn't.

Looks awesome. Especially because you can customize it

Fully agree with you. My PS2 controller is still kicking ass with zero issues since i bought my PS2 slim back at launch. Meanwhile, i'm on my 5th and 6th PS4 controller. All had malfunctioning analog sticks that move on their own. And i take extremely good care of my devices.

The last 2 Dualshock 4 i replaced within the first week of purchase and second day of use. Love the dualshock 4, but hate the low quality sticks.

EDIT: my 2 current dualshock 4 are already starting to act funny pulling the camera to the left on their own... both. And they are the newest model.

EDIT 2: when i went to gamestop 6 months ago to replace the two controllers i had just bought a week before, the employee tested them with their calibration machine and both controllers were badly calibrated. The sensor was going crazy as if the stick was vibrating. A manufacturing flaw.
