When the v1.1.1 update goes live in Anthem, it will come with a number of bug fixes, but also with the removal of the Elysian Caches, a reward mechanic that was put in place about a month ago. Elysian Caches rewarded players with better chances for obtaining cosmetic gear, though BioWare said that "they were always planned as a temporary thing". The door isn't shut, however, on a possible return in the future.

They're probably thinking the drop in cash shop sales is due to the Elysian Caches. If I had to guess, the drop in cash shop sales is due to the mass exodus of playerbase.

Didn't they just fill the post for a lead designer for "rewards" or something like that? This is him in action.
  • AeanderAeander Member LegendaryPosts: 8,060
Playerbase quits on mass due to lack of rewards.

Bioware removes one of their long term rewards systems.

I swear, Bioware are the dodo of the gaming industry.

I actually feel bad for them.... it seems as if no matter what they do, it turns to shit and the community absolutely loathes it. I bet they’re at the point where they are actually afraid to release stuff in fear of it either being shit, messed up and or the community just blasted it. On another note, is this another game that could have been good but things on the backend with management destroyed any chances? Similar to a couple big named games.

"hey, we removed your cosmetic lootbox, you will surely like it. but don't worry, you can still buy em all!"

you didn't see that reaction comming? seriously?

There will be Anthem sales number published later today or tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see actual figures compared to their execs' 6M prediction.

Still, I'm waiting to buy the game - in July probably since it'll be ~5 months after release: development of Mass Effect Andromeda stopped four months after release and I want to be (at least partially) sure they won't do the same with Anthem. Although it'll surely kill all pre-orders for Dragon Age which is based on exactly the same GaaS scheme as Anthem.

edit: also people compare update 1.1.1 to MEA's 1.10 - the last one before announce about development shutdown. They are somewhat similar - few unimportant fixes, nothing substantial. And that sales report for shareholders is coming out in few hours...

Of course, anyone would agree I think. That’s my point though, no matter what they do, it’s either shit, jacked up, and or the community hates it. Personally I hate all these loot boxes and crates an shit. Put the shit In the game and make it acquirable through in-game means. All it is is just more nickel and dime bullshit

The point is that doing the opposite of what you and everyone else wants (STOP making cosmetics aquireable in-game) does not fall under "No matter what they do." category. That category implies the player base hating them even when they make a change with positive aspects, and there is nothing positive for the player base about this change.

I though the joke was the game
FOR HONOR, FOR FREEDOM.... and for some money.

Well did i misread or was this not a timed event to begin with... Not that it s any smart move to remove it but.. It is not quite as gloom and doom as it seems.

Now the game need a bloody miracle patch some solid marketing to save it... if it is salvageable at all. To bad, there was some nice ideas in there... Sadly they drowned in a river of.. well.. shit. So glad i used the EA origins route to try the game out. The full experience, not a single dime spent on it per se.

I expect to see it in a humble bundle in about 6 months. If it is not shut down by then.

This have been a good conversation

Didn't misread it, they did say in the description that the caches were a temporary reward. The removing it not being smart is an understatement though because the game is already starved of content so removing things should be the least of their priorities; especially when they already said they were going to delay things even further.

So the news are (shareholders call or whatever it's called) - they aren't closing down the development, even "doubling down" on it. Still I want to see couple more content patches before buying the game (it's available for ~$25 on PC btw, CdKeys)

    Thank you for your time!

You can thank the F2P poison from the East that invaded the West years ago, thank them for loot boxes, gender locking, manipulative crafting systems, and on and on , but everyone was cheering about how cool F2P games were, except me. Amazing how shortsighted most people are.

If this game shut's down by the end of the month, a class action lawsuit should be inline for refunds.
