Hey guys I can't decide (bout to install the game) wether to be a thief or white mage. Is tantaru ok for a thief?

It's not a big deal seeing how you can change your job at any time.

I would be a Tarutaru White Mage because when u can hold a support job I would also be Black Mage. But Rathma is right, u can switch ne way.

I am a warrior. Does anyone know what subclasses go with that? I saw samaurai which looked pretty cool but i didn't know which base class i had to be.

Actually, there are a number of classes that work pretty well with a warrior. A Warrior/Monk is pretty popular for the HP boost. Warrior/Samurai are great as well, because of the Samurai's ability to gain increased TP as well as store it. Finally, a Warrior/Thief also seems viable, but probably not as much as the other two I mentioned.

You can get a subjob at level 18. Be warned, this quest is not difficult but it can be frustrating. You need to get a damsel fly worm from damselflys (easy), a crap apron from snippers (easy), and finally a magicked skull from a ghoul (hard). The skulls can be found off of ghouls in Valkrum or in Gusgen mines. This part can be really long and stressful if you are unlucky, so if you don't have a lot of patience I would recommend that you try to start the subjob quest as early as possible. Trust me though, the reward is well worth it.

Theives get a ton of gil and have a fast attack. They demand groups more than warriors and monks though. White mages heal and revive and can actually make alot of money off reviving people. I believe on another forum someone claimed they made 5000 gil off one raise. They MUST group though as they have little or no melee potential and the DD spells they have arent comparable to a black mage's.

Grouping in this game is great if you find the right place with the right players. Me and a bunch of people could get 100 exp off one monster. Unfortunatley, i had to leave after 5 mins. So i'm still stuck at level 11.

People imagine you need HUGE groups but really you can just duo and get the job done.

Yep, but if you have 2 warriors, 1 theif, 1 black mage, and 2 healers your unstoppable.

You can replace a theif with any damage dealer really. But treasure hunter is useful....hmmm...

The hard thing is trying to gather a group, get them all in one spot, go to wherever your leveling, and by that time, you've already spent an hour on the game.

I'd say that the harder thing to do in party is getting a WHM lol image. I'm starting to level it, level 8 actually, Elvaan. They don't have the greater MP but I heal much more than any other level 8 WHM I've seen around. And, for the Taru Thief, I don't recommend it, Thief don't deal a lot of damage and Taru means even less damage, so I recommend going Mithra, or Hume, but NOT Elvaan, they suck at THF.

The best would be a Hume because of STR and VIT. If you want to stay a theif throughout your 200 levels then pick Mithra.

Just my two cents after playing both :)

Thieves are great for those players wanting to be in the frontlines without being the tank :) I couldn't believe the aggro tanks get from their OWN PARTY! lol I enjoyed pulling and provoking and all that, and haven't had any complaints directed to me, but some of the blame I've heard put on the main pullers/main tanks are just silly... But I also lose a lot of xp when I'm the tank everyone wants - I keep anything distracted that aggros on the party, and even pull it the opposite direction of the exit if we have to run, often being my demise for their sake. So in the interest of just sitting back and avoiding unecessary deaths at later levels, I love a thief... I'm fast, dodge most attacks thrown at me, can steal stuff from good mobs, make better gil, and equipment upkeep has been cheap too.

White mages are what everyone depends on. If you want to be the bread and butter for every group, and often times the sole reason they live or die, then white mage is hella fun. You gotta gear your habits, macros, and skill use on how to make the most efficient use of your heals for the whole party. It's a great class and one you'll never have difficulty finding a group with.

And everyone else has pretty much said it already, but if you want the easiest time with things, it's taru taru white mage and mithra thief. I used hume for all the above though because you can try out everything with not much loss in efficiency.
