Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor - Martyr is expanding with Inquisitor - Prophecy, but as a standalone expansion. Inquisitor - Martyr will not be required to play, though "the story is designed to fit both for new and returning players". Inquisitor - Prophecy features the new Tech-Adept Inquisitor class, a brand new campaign that continues the story of Inquisitor - Martyr as players travel through new environment to face off against the Eldar and Tyranids.

It will be interesting to see how this is received, there were a bunch of us that really liked Inquisitor, but to come out with a whole new standalone instead of a DLC addon is a little strange, especially since they are releasing Patch 2.0 for Inquisitor which is what the new game is based on..

I wonder if you'll be able to use the new class in Martyr.

I dont think so because that will probably be one of the selling points but we will see I guess..

    NEW IN 2.0:

Faster, smoother gameplay experience for all three playable classes
    Progression system rebuilt from scratch
Level cap increased from 80 to 100
Story Campaign, Seasons 1 & 2 are now playable in online co-op (2-4 players)
Expanded and revised loot system (new item tier, new item types, new enchants)
    Expanded and revised crafting
    New end-game modes
    Other quality of life improvements
    And many more!

It seems like it can be played ALONE or as part of Martyr itself. Like, if you own the original game, it's an expansion. If you don't own Martyr, it's like a smaller version of that, and perhaps a gateway into Martyr.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

Yea I was thinking that myself Bill but if that was true then people that already own Inquisitor should be getting a DLC and new people can just buy the standalone at a lower place and miss the earlier story. But after investigating the new campaign is a continuation of the original story but still requires the new game to play, even for owners of inquisitor hence the 30% discount..

Somehow i don't see this standalone getting a very warm reception from people who already own Inquisitor. Inquisitor was a game that had a slew of issues at launch and although much improved now, many players have walked away from the game altogether because, well, its still a very mediocre ARPG. Not even sure the 30% off can help them

^^^This. I am a current player who spends months saving up credits for DLC instead of paying for it and I will not pay for this one.

I have to question should this have been a dlc? Is it really that much of a new game, we have seen this a lot now, trying to pass of what would have been a major dlc as a new game.

I bought Martyr last week and I wasn't overly impressed. Regret the purchase to be honest. I'm hoping 2.0 will improve things.

The timing is what is throwing me for a loop, this is literally dropping the same day as 2.0. So people have to choose between trying out the base game with the 2.0 changes, or buy this standalone ish game and play this instead. Seems to me they would have been better off staggering this a couple weeks later.
Personally i won't be buying this on day one now because I want to give Martyr an honest second shot with the 2.0 changes coop with my best friend. Maybe down the line this would be a potential buy, but the timing is just poorly thought out(unless they don't have faith in the 2.0 patch)

Going to test 2.0 first even though as an owner of the original game you will get 30% off the expansion. Inquisitor Martyr does so much right it is infuriating to see them stumble. We need a better loot treadmill, more impactful character progression and all around more excitement in combat and skills. I really hope they can deliver because besides that mentioned above, and a bit of level layout improvement, they got a great foundation to go with.

Edit. I will definitely buy the expansion btw, just want to see how they improve the base game first.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

why even bother with this expansion when you can get warhammer 40k chaos bane the week after. i think they are just trying to retain there player base while chaos bane releases.

Because Chaosbane isn´t 40k? And it doesn't look as if the combat is half as smooth as Inquisitor? I still have it pre-ordered though hahaha.

When it comes to ARPGs, my answer tends to be "why not both?"  :D
