Other than it being free, I don't see a point in playing this over Monster Hunter.

Yep. And on Switch when it lands there too.

I actually like Dauntless better. it's more suited for short sessions.

Last time I played this the fighting was decent and the bosses were quite fun. My biggest gripe at the time was the lack of customization which im assuming has been improved.

As far as playing this over Monster Hunter ? I found this game to be much easier. So if you find MH frustrating id recommend this, again i haven't played in well over a year so.....

I reallly tried to like MH, but I could not get into it. I red boxed it 2x and I found it very boring. May give this a go since it free and something to break up the Div 2 / Wildlands.

Monster Hunter is decent for short sessions, but my personal experience has been that Dauntless hunts take about half the time (with very short "tracking" phases comparatively) unless you're taking on the toughest of the game's bosses.

That said, MHW over Dauntless any day. It's superior by a factor of 10.

Official release and going multi platform months before MHW:Iceborne releases is a smart move on them.

A mass exodus will be inevitable at that point, but at least more people will be aware of the free to play alternative.

This makes me really hope the game becomes a big success. This could lead to Capcom getting the PC version(simultaneous updates) of MHW up to speed with consoles and add crossplay too. They already do it with SF5 through capcom's own server and account system.

Hope they fix the running animations among a few others.

I personally like this game more than MHW... I thought MHW neutered what Monster Hunter was with all the QoL improvements. Can't wait to move over to PS4

.....so they improve the game, as you yourself admit by calling them QoL improvements.....and then you say it was neutered.

    What?

What's the difference between Monster Hunter and Dauntless? THey look identical to me.

I know I heard of this game before but I am drawing a blank.  I think I remember looking into Monster hunter and it had no rpg systems, just gear upgrades?  Is this the same type of deal or does it have character development and rpg systems outside of gear upgrades?

"Monster Hunter World play sessions are too long"

"Dauntless and Monster Hunter World are identical"

"Monster Hunter World is too hard"

    Meanwhile...

I like Dauntless melee better than MHW. Hopefully, Dauntless 2 will have less cartoon-ish and more realistic characters. Till then I'll play MHW if I'll ever feel nostalgia for wipes on bosses.

For some reason I prefer Dauntless.

You are not wrong, my Dauntless sessions have been consistently shorter than my MHW sessions.

That is not a good thing.

Have they added any more weapons or at the very least equalised them? I remember when I tried it half the weapons where useless (and this game didn't have many weapon choices back then).

  • DAOWAceDAOWAce Member UncommonPosts: 436
Wasn't that long ago that I last tried it.. and I couldn't see it being ready for release for at least another half a year.

I mean, people who left to go play a better game (MHW) might come back, but it's still worse than it.

Maybe they'll actually support non 16:9 resolutions on release (notably ultrawide/multi-mon), but I doubt it, since they haven't listened to my or others feedback about it for almost a year.

To be honest Bill, it doesn't seem like you actually play games with any manner of dedication or longevity.

You’re not wrong. By nature and by work related force, I have to jump around a LOT. It took me over a year to finish Fallout 4’s main story. I’ll also add that this shouldn’t be a bad thing. With thousands of games to play, why would I want to limit what I try? Now... I don’t apply that to romantic relationship, but that’s another story.

Short games in general tend to skew better with critics than with audiences.

Dollar/hr is a metric that only exists for consumers. An open world game full of busywork (aka every Ubisoft game) will do well because gamers generally want to stretch their purchases. A critic has to move from game to game, so a shorter playtime may actually be a boon to their gameplay experience.
