imageUbisoft Delays Skull & Bones to April 2020 - MMORPG.com

For a game that was supposed to be released prior to the end of 2018, it sure seems that Skull & Bones is taking a long time in development. It's so delayed, in fact, that Ubisoft announced that it will not be seen until "financial year 2019/2020" which means April 2020 at the earliest. In addition, Ubisoft also announced that the game will be skipping this year's E3. These announcements were made during the Q&A session in Ubisoft's investor call earlier today.

It looks like Ubi have their priorities straight. Rather delays than too early releases tbh.

In other Ubisoft news, the company continues to backpedal with the Division 2's postlaunch content.

"Matchmaking is provided for every game activity and difficulty level"

    **except for raids.

Probably they need additional time for integration with Epic store exclusivity.

    Thank you for your time!

I wish more games would do this instead of releasing broken. then people quit and when the game actually gets better the population never returns.

Huh? They are not skipping E3. Dunno where you got that from. The link to Gamespot does not actually link to an article specifically, just the site. This is all I could find in recent news and they both say Ubisoft will NOT be skipping E3. https://www.gamespot.com/videos/e3-2019-press-conference-schedule-all-the-biggest-/2300-6449463/ https://www.gamespot.com/articles/three-unannounced-ubisoft-triple-a-games-releasing/1100-6466915/

Division 2 isn't a new game so this is - probably - UbiSoft seeking to get the game to folks who haven't bothered to check out there store.

As to UbiSoft paying Epic - maybe. However a deal has been done which also benefits Epic - lots of publicity. So who knows - well from those who know the details of the deal! - maybe Epic are paying UbiSoft!

Well the article references the investor results Q&A which has only just happened so - shrug. However maybe its a case of Skull & Bones will be skipping E3. Which the link you provided indicates. But if so ..... odd headline.

Skull & Bones is skipping E3. I clarified the opening paragraph to say "the game" instead of "it" which seems to have led to the confusion.

    From Gamespot:

Ubisoft's pirate game, Skull & Bones, has been delayed for a second time. The PS4, Xbox One, and PC game was initially scheduled for a 2018 release, before being delayed to financial year 2019/20. It has now been delayed again to "after 2019/20." Additionally, the game won't be shown at E3 2019, which takes place next month.

Why would Ubisoft pay Epic to be on their store? That doesn't make any sense at all. It is pretty clearly Epic paying every company for exclusivity deals. In some cases companies might be going to Epic rather then Epic seeking them out, but it is only Epic paying here. The logic being that even with Epic's smaller cut, a game will be far more successful on Steam...unless Epic gives them an upfront payment to make up for lost sales and to make it exclusive to their platform.

The Division 2 has also been on the EGS since it came out and is not available on Steam. This is an old article to just show that Ubisoft is not shying away from EGS exclusives, despite their games still all being on Uplay. (Including TD 2) Just as an added note: https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/05/10/ghost-recon-breakpoint-will-be-on-epic-games-store-not-steam This is still going to be a think with Ubisoft. I would not expect any future titles on PC from Ubisoft to be on Steam at this point.

They didn't drop Uplay.  It'll be the same as other Ubisoft games on Steam meaning you'll probably still have to install Uplay.

Never said they were if you read what I said. The post I replied to was talking about UbiSoft paying Epic. To which I said maybe - since I son't know - and went on to point out that - maybe! - Epic were paying UbiSoft. Or - maybe - they both benefit and who pays who might depend on sales. It will all be in the fine print.

I think I remember reading some place about one of the lead devs for skull and bones leaving Ubisoft. I could be mistaken, but I think it was for Skull and Bones. I wonder if the delay has something to do with that?

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

I hope they are delaying it so they can make it more of an Pirate RPG instead of just an arena based shooter with boots.  We need to attack/raid ports, board ships and fight as well.

Every time I hear a game company mention pushing back a game to a financial quarter or end of a fiscal year, it makes me think that the game is done, but they want to maximize the way their profit reads on paper to prevent having a week quarter or year.

It isn't Star Citizen so we really can see Scull and Bones' release... some day.
