I took it as Drogon being intelligent enough to understand that his mother died for that chair and everything it represents.

Funny thing, I did not like the game of thrones much at all.  The first season was ok and it went downhill from there.  Even the Wow movie was better.   Much rather play a MMO than watch that show.   The Lord of the Rings trilogy was imminently better, so were the Hobbit movies.

I really do not understand why people were so excited by it.
I think some will disagree with you about how good GoT was but you might want to consider that:

    - the WoW movie, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit moves were ....... movies.
    - GoT is a TV show.

That whilst GoT was expensive - by TV show stands - the WoW, LotR and Hobbit movies had HUGE budgets and arguably expensive by movie stands.

GoT, mostly, produced a series each year; the movies took years.

GoT had lots of extras etc. - by TV show standards - but not by movie standards.

Its almost like saying an old black & white TV is not as good as a modern 4k UHD OLED.

And that is a key reason - whether or not you like the story - GoT is "special".

Edit: and if you like it its doubly special of course.
Actually The Hobbit didn't have years of (pre-)production under it, shame really. Complicated project.

    I followed it. And yes.

The Hobbit though - messy though it was - still highlights the stark (!) difference. They had a "couple of years" with del Torro (2008-2010) whose departure caused complications leading to a "messy" 1.5 years of filming rather than the 2 years they had allowed for. With release some months later.

Each of series 1-7 of GoT were written, filmed, designed and had all the effects added in less than a year. And that is 10 c. 1 hour episodes - so longer running time than the entire trilogy. And made on a much smaller budget. Series 8, of course, took 2 years and only delivered 6 episodes albeit longer ones - so not quite as long as the 3 films!

Season 7 only had 7 episodes. Season 8 only had 4 episodes longer than the others. HBO offered them more money and 4 more episodes for season 8 which could have helped it not feel so rushed to the end. But I guess they wanted to get on to their Star Wars trilogy.

250+ million people play fortnite over the course of a month....game of thrones gets 20million max per episode...even if we say every episode has unique viewers the whole season had like 120 million viewers....I think you have it backwards....Epic is about to give out 100 million bucks this year in prizes with a single tournament reaching a pool of 30 million alone...if anything gaming is coming up....

If one good thing has come out of this season, it is that Jon and Jaime have become interesting mirrors of one another.

Both took vows to never take wives, claim property, or father children. Jaime chose love over duty. Jon chose duty over love. Jaime killed a king and was forever dishonored for it. Jon killed a queen and was forever dishonored for it.

Yeah they became mirror images of each other thats true, they both had their story arcs that were built up over the course of the show flushed down the toilet.

edit: the article is using GoT as a base so sry if I am harping on it and going off topic.

GOT and pretty much all mmorpgs tap into the geek trilogy - fantasy, Sci-fi, and comic books. If there is a disturbance in the force, good or bad, it ripples throughout the entire genre, be it films, books, or games.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

I have never watched Game of Thrones and have no interest.
Gaming has not plateaued at all I think that is ridiculous.

The issue with most gaming sites is they treat their job as a hobby and not a career. It takes work and resourcefulness. Their are a multitude of games that are never covered or covered very little because the work is not being done by the marketing department or firm and the journalists who's job it is to cover games.
Many sites just use other sites as sources for their headlines. Which in some cases is fine but in others it is not. You have to get out there and speak to the developers. Follow industry insiders and make those calls and emails and visit in person and at shows. It is easy to just cover Cyberpunk or whatever Bethesda is making. It takes much more work to get a story on a game like Greedfall, Warlander or Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
The amount of revenue generated by the gaming industry dwarfs all other forms of entertainment and that will not change.
Pop culture gets covered by gaming sites because they are not putting in the work to discover gaming news.

But I imagine there is a money component.

Have a journalist talk to an indy dev for an hour or so and then put the work to write the article and how much interest will it generate and also how many clicks equating to revenue?

Have a journalist put in the same amount of time and effort for a top of the line AAA game and the revenue will pour in.

If it was so easy to just "put in the work" for an under-served segment of the gaming market then all it would take are a few people to start a new site send out "all the people" and make bank.

    But they won't.

I sold it after the crapfest season 8 was.
    Oh please.

The season was fine. There were missteps as far as setup but I get the feeling that unless the writers gave the fans EXACTLY the ending they had in their heads, there would always be an uproar.

I think the "large" beats are supposed to be there as far as who does what, etc.

People always get upset about the ending of a show. Most people never write screenplay like this and have no clue what they are talking about. At this point GoT hate is just a bandwagon like anything else rage-collecting on social media.

Every time I watch a horror movie, I pull out my controller to see if I can get the token dumb blond that needs to die at the start, to run left and jump right before tripping and falling to her death.. and that it never happens, and that folks is why I play video games, if I am going to watch someone die to their own stupid moves, it's gonna be me.

The season wasnt fine to me but if it was fine for you glad you enjoyed it.

So where do you think people get their ideas they have in their heads, maybe the source material? Maybe the 4-5 seasons they spent in the show building up characters and their story arcs only to have them changed to subvert peoples expectations?

I loved the books and cant wait for the next 2, wish I could go back and save the time and money I wasted on the show.

Like DMKano said GoT went downhill after season 4

Stopped watching TV around 2000.  Mostly because of Asheron's Call.  But also that was about the time when TV news really started to attempt to tell me what to think about the news they covered.

As for Game of Thrones it sounded like it was a soap opera with some violence thrown in.

"Games have become static in their designs only shifting slightly on top mechanics. RPGs have changed little and MMOs have dispersed into many game styles across genres."

When this gets pointed out many posters point to sales and tell us everything is wonderful in the world of gaming. This though is down to the player base has been getting bigger not euphoria over what we are seeing launched.

But one direction not noted here is that designs are not staying the same they are slowly converging and have been since the millennium; from basics like User Interfaces and the buttons you need to press, to the removal of text and the overuse of colour and cartoony graphics, from the move to ever easier to the repetition of story themes.

This makes for a very bland diet, the kids who have not seen it all before are still buying, but I am not sure in the long term that will be sustainable.

Rating from 1-10,i am getting a 10-1 ratio in TV value over gaming value.Gaming right now is total dumpster, hardly anything worth playing, even for free, mostly lazy same old done that been there game designs.
At least with movies we get to enjoy several different actors.sometimes great scripting, action sequences and quite a few really well done movies/series.
When i see a new game,it is like, hmm probably just more crap, when i see a new movie,i am looking for trailers and trying to find out as much as possible.
I would struggle to think of the last good video game to come out, movies,i watch good ones pretty much every single week.

Maybe I'm a dummy, but using TV in the title and then listing streaming services in the article was confusing.

I thought only Boomers still watched TV, as in paid for cable television. I haven't done that since 2005. lol
