Yup he posted his official retirement a little while back. I tried to find the thread so I could link to it but couldn't find the damn thing. I am sure someone else will provide it.

Enigma did not retire. All the mods are still around, but new mod regulations are in place. Mods are no longer able to take part in any discussion unless it is answering a question. So do not expect to see any mods posting except for rare occasions such as this.

aw, that sux, i bet it makes mmorpg.com less fun to mod( that is if it ever was fun to mod :P)
I can think of 1 good reason. When a mod posts their personal opinion on something, a lot of people will brown-nose that side of the story and in the end the forums may turn out to be very biased.
I remmeber reading a post that a mod said they have alternative accounts withought the mod title from which they participate in discussions, which is a very good idea.

I definately agree with this statement, though it does distance the mods from the users IMHO.

Lol, I beg to differ. Experience tells me otherwise.

But i dont see the point, boozbaz, who cares if the forums were biased? i mean really... and btw, what would they be biased about?
Well, I think it's like this. Group makes argument, mod agrees with them, gather support due to mod agreement, other group pressured into caving in to baised group.
Although im sure there are plenty of other cases.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

so suspicious of new members with strikingly familar opinions now are we???

Oh...
This is bad (not the not retiring part, the regulation mind you!)
I know 80% of the staff is corrupted toward PvP and Mythic, still...reading well though arguments was good...
This prolly mean that...all the staff now have undercover identities! Let's play the who is who game! *grin evilly*
Oh well...
Back to Egn1ma, I would have though he would have gone into a pilgrimmage or something, would have start wondering if something was wrong in a few more time, just not yet!

I'll give you guys a cheap example of what I'm talking about.
Kid starts thread saying that anyone who talks about dreams is an emo. People argue, eventually a mod who locked 2 threads the previous day comes in and says he agrees with what the kid says. From that point on unless someone has the brass to argue with him, most of the people will "jump on the bandwagon.".
It's not like that here at mmorpg.com, but I recently left gaming forums canada because of crap like that. First of all severly dissing U.S.A. is no big deal @ GFC. Some guy posted something against muslims and I have a feeling one of the mods IS muslim and was probobally personally offended because he banned the guy/locked thread after puting up a pathetic argument against him. Everyone backed that admin up, until a couple days later two people hinted that it was admin abuse, one was me. Biased opinion or not, it was unfair and what pissed me off is that so few people had the brass to point it out, that's one reason why I quit GFC and made a photoshopped tribute for this forum in particular. The mods are supposedly anonymous.
These forums are some of the best, and I think one reason for that is the professionality of the mods. The only admin posts I've seen are the ones where they lock a thread and state the reason, or when one ambiguously posted his/her thoughts in a 911 thread debate. Other then there may be more mod posts in this thread then what we're aware of.
Anyways sorry for the long rant, but I hope it kind of gets what I'm talking about - how mod anonymity+professionality is a good measure to keep forums from becoming one-sided.
In actuality the reason behind the new regulations is the fact that we as staff are representatives here at MMORPG.com, and since this username, "Finwe", is permanently wearing the badge, he must not state an opinion lest it be thought of as the opinion of MMORPG.com, and mis-represent the guy I'm working for(Admin).
But don't worry, we're always watching, and sometimes even participating(As previously stated, we have alternative accounts).
As for Enigma(no 1 now, just an i), he has been less active as of late, but to my knowledge, as previously stated, he is still around; even if his activity picks up, unless you converse with himself over another medium than our boards, you are less likely to see that activity shown.
Cheers!

Actually there is nothing new about it. We were always supposed to not post with the exceptions of some reasons given in this thread. However it's only recently it was really enforced.

One mode did retire though. We can make En1gma talk. We can make all of you talk. Don't understand. You guys rules changed to basicly the rules of every popular message boards. Ok, Dekron (or any other mod), I have a question for you. How do you feel about this?
I enjoy partaking in discussions with you guys, but I like being a mod as well. I can't say that I like it, but generally, most people do not like many of the rules set forth by an employer, and, if we wish to continue such employment, we must adhere to said rules and regulations.
Maybe that is why the site has lost so many of its old contributing forum member. There are so few left, and there arn't enough new faces to fill the large gaps left in this site... /cry /quit

I didn't post a retirement.
I assure you, I am here. However, I am doing much more moderating than I am posting. However, I am here everyday.
If you need anything please email me....Ill respond .
However, I do agree with Dekron. I miss posting ...even if I did look like an ass but I will adhere to our existing rules (which were always in place...just not really enforced). Also...I dont have a secret alternate account because I know that if I were to create one, you guys would figure out it was me in days.
I may hit the live chat more if you guys wanna chat

I can recall Enigma weighing in against me and people tend to rally to a mod's position, since it is considered by some, to be more informed and/or accurate, which obviously is not always the case, and of course, there are the brown noses who want to be chummy with the mods.
At least if a mod is arguing against you incognito, they won't be able to speak from a presumed authoritative position which makes it fair and balanced.
