Its the EA effect, take something good and monetise the hell out of it until its totally run into the ground. I feel sorry for the developers, watching their game suffer like that, harsh. particularly after they pulled EA's chestnuts out of the fire
It reminds me of WoW. Everyone's chasing Fortnite the same way they chased WoW.
And player response to the articles about the release month player metrics was exactly the same, too. This was pretty much a 1 to 1 to WoW versus all other challengers in terms of folks going "I think this is the one!"
Folks are gonna try F2P games in large numbers... Because it's free.
What i am going to say is not directed to Apex Legends, but to all gaming companies.
Console/PC developers/publishers who worry more about how much money mobile makes instead of making a great game for their dedicated platforms can shut down and go bankrupt for all i care.

I was actually thinking along those lines. This is the one! Oh...wait...no.
My other thought is: The game did so well at the start, I am wondering if it covered production costs, and that is why EA is essentially letting it die on the vine? I don't know, but they sure seem to have given it the cold shoulder.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
Super slow problem fixing, even slower content adding, no wonder really. Took them like 2 months after the release to come on idea to hire a net code engineer cuz theirs was a mess, not to mention that game didnt even had crash report tool fore more than a month so they could blame till then everything on users...
I download APEX maybe 2-3 months ago. Installed, turned ON and game do not wanna accept my NVIDIA card, only the dedicated one. I spend 3 hours to solve that shit. After spent 3 hours to looking for solutions and "trying to applies 100% working solutions" I finally made game run on my NVIDIA card with smoothly 10 FPS.
I can run R6 / OW over 100 FPS. The gooddamit ESO runs over 70+ FPS but shitty APEX no...
What level of confidence do I place in this estimate? Its Superdata so ......
If correct though - and EA's next quarterly results will probably give us a much better idea - will EA be happy if it keeps bringing in a mere $24M a year? Indies certainly would.
If it was only $24M/year...they're making $24M in a single month!
Yeah sure it's content issue... in BR genre it's all about the streamers. If the top streamers are playing the game all the kids will follow it's that simple. In other genres it wouldn't work, but in BR where 90% of the playerbase are kids or grown ups with the thinking of a 12 year old streamers are the most important part. If they pay streamers to focus on the game again they will definitely get back to where they were, but I doubt that most streamers would do it for anything else other than an astronomical number.
Personally I believe that Apex Legends is many times better than Fortnite. I don't really play BR's myself, but just from how fluid the gameplay is I prefer it over Fortnite. Of course my 7 year old nephew doesn't agree with me and thinks that that rainbow vomit of a game is more fun... cause of colors
Well here's the problem with that logic, Apex Legends got the hype and numbers it did because EA payed some top streamers a bunch of money to stream their game. Those streamers didn't find the game worth sticking around for, and of course neither did their fans.
I can't comment if they liked it or not, but they were getting a lot more viewers while playing Apex Legends than playing other games. Honestly to me it's really strange why they didn't stick around and honestly there are probably a lot of possible scenarios like they being paid to play other games or it might be something more simple like for example playing Fortnite brings them more money and I don't mean from their viewers, but other stuff. There was also a really strong comeback from Fortnite during that period and a lot of the top streamers probably felt like they are being replaced with new faces(which was happening), so betting on what's been working for them might've felt more safe I don't know.
I get that there are people who like Fortnite, but to me it's strange since Apex Legends is a lot more smooth than Fortnite.
Btw I'm curious they talk about content, but does Fortnite actually have content? I mean skins and other similar crap isn't really content? I don't play the game, so I have no idea how many maps there are and if there is any difference between having 1 map and 10 if everything is the same on the maps... even if there are 50 maps after playing the game for a while you will learn where everything is, so not much difference in my opinion. If the maps are randomly generated now that would be interesting.
As a gamer, this worries me. If big companies latch on to this idea we'll be seeing extremely cheaply made, 2-3 month life span games with almost zero content.

They frequently add new items that are picked up in match and change the map, coinciding with events that take place in real-time in matches (I recall the rocket event that the one dude used to steal a winning match).

Indeed - I meant to say $24M a month!
Then again most small indies and even the likes of DBG would be happy if they put out a game that only made that in a full year!
And I think I will still wait for EA's quarterly results.
SuperData figures and projections have been off on multiple occasions - basically whenever a publisher puts out figures. The rest of the time we live in ignorance. Using our VR headsets though - well at least that was the future today according to ......
Look at those revenue figures and then come and tell me mobile has no effect on gameplay, content, revenue methods or anything else on PC and console. Well posters used to...now not so much.
I cant, but I can tell you have it has a negative affect on how my PC games are designed and built or lack of them. But its all about the money.

Optimization at it best made by EA.
Best game ever!
GGTHXBYE

Not shedding a single tear.
King Midas turned everything he touched into gold.
EA turns everything it touches into shit (a big pile of it).
